Chapter 121: Save Your People
Chapter 121: Save Your People
Elena
I weaved through the tree as fast as I could, I had left the clearing and was heading to the hospital. My idea was somewhat controversial but if it works, it could save so many lives.
Liam had been left in the hospital, which was safe for him and the other doctors. We couldn't have them on the battlefield because they were not warriors even though Liam was built like one. I reached the hospital and Liam was already waiting for me at the entrance with a robe in his hand. I shifted back into my human form and took the robe. I covered myself with it, and he looked at me with a worried expression.
"Do you have it?" I asked and he nodded.
"It is in my lab, come on. I will take you there."
I followed him into the eerily silent hospital. After this battle, I am sure that many of the rooms would be lined with injured warriors. I just hope that my plan would stop the morgues from being filled. I didn't want to bury any more wolves than I needed to.
"Have you told Bernard of your plan?"
"If I say no, will you be upset?" He sighed heavily.
"Listen, Elena, you are Luna now and you have the freedom to lead as you must but you lead with Bernard. You may be Luna but he is still Alpha and he outranks you."
"But what is happening out there is wrong, I just want to help. I know some of those wolves, I grew up with them and they were good people."
"They work for Richard now." I shook my head.
"If they had a choice, they wouldn't. If they had the choice to choose, they would have left the Pack but they couldn't risk being rogue so they endured Richard's cruelty. It is not their fault, they didn't get to decide what Pack they were born into."
"They are still on the enemy's side," he continued to rummage through the cabinets looking for what I had asked for.
"I won't lie to you, you could risk endangering not only yourself but the rest of the warriors out there with this plan of yours."
"So, why are you helping me then?" He turned around holding a vile in his hand.
"Because of some crazy reason, I believe in what you are trying to do. I want you to at least have the opportunity to try." He handed me the vial and I clasped it in my hand.
"Rub this on your fingernails, it's poppy essence with rosemite powder. It will temporarily paralyze whoever you scratched. The serum will last thirty minutes on you but the paralysis will last three hours. I am sure that will be enough time, be careful because it is a medium high potency.
"Could it work on an Alpha?" He shook his head.
"Unfortunately, we would need an even higher potency and I neither have the time nor the ingredients to make another vial."
I nodded in understanding, Richard would be dealt with and he wasn't the one I was trying to save.
"Thank you Liam." He smiled.
"Go and save your people, Luna."
I rubbed the serum on my fingertips before exiting the hospital. I shifted and took off in the direction of the battlefield. When I returned, I found Alpha Kaba and his warriors had joined the fight. At this point, there was no telling who had the upper hand. Everyone seemed evenly matched but one thing that I noticed was the various naked bodies lying on the floor. A lot of people had died already, I would not allow anymore to die.
I noticed Bernard fighting off three wolves, my heart jumped when I saw all three of them attack at the same time but he jumped into the air and used the tall tree trunk to ricochet off. The wolves tried to leap up and catch his hind legs as he moved through the air. He landed on his paws and lowered himself ready to pounce. Out of nowhere another wolf came out of the bush and barrelled into him, sending him off balance. It was not now, four against one and I couldn't let my mate take them on alone.
I moved across the battlefield ducking and dodging wolves desperate to get my mate. Two wolves were holding him down and another was ready to strike. I ran towards them and elongated my claws, hopefully this serum would work. I slid under one of the wolves and slashed him with my claws. I turned around and charged for the other three, they saw me coming but I was too quick for them. I slashed their side but not deep enough to kill them. They snarled at me and began to circle around me, forgetting Bernard. He got up quickly and was ready to attack them from behind.
'No!' I mind linked him.
'Don't attack them, I need to see something.'
'What are you talking about?'
'Just wait.'
I closed the link, the first wolf fell to the floor then the other two followed closely behind. I smiled internally, the serum worked. Bernard looked at the wolves in bewilderment, he moved slowly in their direction to check if they were alive. When he saw their eyes moving around, he looked at me.
'What did you do? Did you poison them?' I raised my paw in the air.
'I got a little help from Liam. He gave me this serum that would temporarily paralyze anyone I scratched.' he titled his head to the side in question.
'I am not a killer, Bernard, and today I helped to kill someone I knew. Not all these wolves believe in Richard's ruling. Not all these wolves are guilty, many are forced to be here but if they had a choice, they would have opted to leave the Pack.'
'So, you did this to save the very people who watched your parents be slaughtered?' I walked up to him and stared him dead in the eyes.
'They didn't put out the order, they weren't the ones who had people kill them. That was all Richard and I had to learn to look past that and realize who the true enemy is. None of these wolves deserve death, the only one who should meet death today is Richard.'
'No matter what happened in the past, these are my people and they deserve a leader who is going to stand for them. We will deal with Richard's wolves after the battle but I am not killing any more wolves today.' he stared at me for a moment, he closed the distance between us and nuzzled his nose into my fur.
'I am sorry.' his voice echoed.
'You are right, these are your people and they deserve mercy.'
I pulled away and looked into his eyes, he didn't need to say anything. He gave me a slight nod and I bounded into the thick battle, I knew I was racing against the clock.
'Don't kill any of the enemy's wolves, subdue them and let your Luna come in and immobile them for you. We are not losing any more lives today, they are her people too.' Bernard's mind links all his warriors.
I quickly got to work doing my part in this fight. Slowly and surely, the enemy began to fall one by one. I tried to move as fast as I could but I knew I was running out of time. The serum would not last much longer and I still had a few more wolves to go. The number of enemy wolves had dwindled so far down that the battle had shifted from equilibrium to our side. We were going to win this, the odd thing about this battle was that the main enemy was missing. I searched the battlefield to try to catch the dark wolf of Richard Brown but he was nowhere in sight.
Richard was not a wolf who sat out of battle. His wolf loved to fight and kill, I felt an uncomfortable twist in my stomach as my mind wandered. He is up to something, the problem with celebrating early was that you didn't know what card your opposition had up their sleeve. Just as one of the last wolves had fallen to the ground, Richard's black wolf came through the tree line.
His devil-red eyes scanned over the clearing, his eyes took in his fallen warriors on the ground. I don't know if he thought they were dead or they were still alive. Knowing Richard, he didn't care for the well-being of his people, all he cared about was winning at the end of it all.
Richard howled and five seconds later, more wolves emerged from the tree line. There were more and I just ran out of my serum. His eyes scanned over the clearing until they finally landed on me. He stared at me with those demonic eyes, I felt my soul shudder.
I hadn't seen this man in over ten years and now, staring at him, I was paralyzed with fear.
