Chapter 62: I Am The Alpha
Chapter sixty-two: I Am The Alpha
Bernard
To say I was over the moon happy would be an understatement. I had been waiting for this moment for so long, we had officially accepted each other as mates. Although there was still a mountain of things for us to sort through this would make it all easier.
I wanted to grab her and mark her at the moment but I held back. The time didn't feel right and I still need to talk to her about other stuff.
"What is it?" She asked as she looked at me with concern painted on her face.
"I think you need to stay away from the house for a while, not for long just so that I can sort out everything with Ronald and Helen. I don't trust them being around you, Helen has already proven that she is willing to go to insane lengths just to get to me." I told her.
"I don't want to leave you, I just got you back again." She said with a puppy face.
This woman is going to be the end of me, I unthreaded our fingers so I could pull her into my lap. She squealed at my sudden movement but she didn't remove herself from my lap. I wrapped my arms around her waist and her fingers threaded through my hair, everything about this moment felt so right. I stared into her sapphire blue eyes.
"I don't want to lose you either but we have to think about this from a safety standpoint. You aren't just my mate, you are the Pack's Luna. You are an important person and must be protected at all costs, it is not like I am sending you my love. I just need you to stay away from this area for now, I need you and Helen to be far away from each other so that I can have peace of mind knowing that you are safe. It is just only for a little while, my love. I just don't want you to get hurt and caught in the crossfire, I will never forgive myself if something happens to you." I explained to her.
"And I don't want you to get hurt either." She told me and I placed a kiss on her lips.
"It is sweet that you cared about me but you don't have to worry about me, I can take care of myself. My main concern is you, you will only be away for a short time and once everything is sorted out, I will send for you to come back home."
"Home?" She tested the word on her lips. Her face split into a gentle smile and she nodded.
"But you have to promise me one thing." I said and she leaned her forehead against mine and closed her eyes. I watched her through my eyelashes.
"You need to promise me that you will come back." She pulled away slightly, her eyes flicking to my lips and then back to my eyes.
This woman is killing me, I was trying so hard to keep in control and she is doing this.
"I will always come back to you, no matter how far I have gone or how long I have been away. I know where my home is and my home is you." She replied.
As if she couldn't get any more perfect than she already was. That restraint was looking like it was about to snap at any moment.
"You are my home too, Elena."
The words I had wanted to say were three words made up of eight letters but now is not the time. When I told her that I loved her, I wanted it to be special, I didn't want it to be in the middle of all this chaos.
"I better go get some things parked then." She wanted to get up but I held her tighter to my chest. I wanted her in my arms for a little longer.
"Two more minutes." I kissed her forehead and pulled her closer to my chest.
She didn't fight me, she laid her head in the crook of my neck and sat with me for a little longer.
After she left, I sent one of my guards to get my father for me. I needed to talk to him about my mother, she was out of line and out of control. This wasn't my mother and she needed to be set right and there is no better person to that than her mate.
Shortly, my father walked into my office with a sober look on his face. He looked burdened and I didn't want to add to the weight he was already carrying but this was a matter that he had to be part of it.
"Son." He greeted me and sat down on the other side of my desk.
"Father." I looked over at his face.
"Are you okay?" He waved me off.
"Just some things with your mother, speaking of which, I spoke to her and she didn't take the news very well. I tried to make her understand but she said a few things that I simply can't look past." I sighed.
"Actually, that is why I called you here. We need to talk about mother, she has gone mad, father and I don't know what to do." He sat up straight in his chair. His brown eyes held concern as he stared at me and gestured for me to continue.
"Mother conspired with Helen to try and separate Elena and me. It almost worked but Liam stepped in and made both of us see sense." My father gasped at me.
"She did what!" I nodded.
"I was shocked too, father. I mean, this is my mother we are talking about here. She is someone I never would have thought to do this, she knows what it means to have a fated mate and yet she was willing to risk my fated mate for what, father? A promise I made to a greedy man who gives me no real benefits?" He shook his head in disbelief.
I am sure he was trying to process how the woman he married could be capable of something so heinous. He turned his eyes to the window at the side of the room. He stared at the view for a while before speaking.
"When I spoke to your mother." His voice was thick like he was fighting back emotions.
"She was not happy and she also said a lot of things during the conversation that I am still trying to come to terms with. You know your mother was brought up to always value duty over self, it is what she was taught from the moment she was born and that lesson stuck with her for the rest of her life. She is a woman who is stuck in her ways." He said to me.
"Just because she is set in her ways doesn't mean she has to impose her values on people who don't view life the way she does. I nearly lost Elena because of this, father." I could feel my anger building up.
"If she puts me in a position where I have to choose between her and Elena, it will always be Elena. I am just letting you know now, father. She is not above putting in the cells." My father's face took on a red tint.
"Don't speak about your mother in such a way. You would do well to remember that she is my mate and your mother."
"And I am the Alpha, father." I challenged him.
"I don't want to be in a situation where I have to punish my mother but if she continues like this, then my hand will be forced to act. You know her best so you should talk to her."
"Your mother is a hard woman to get through. After more than two decades together, I still find it hard to break through her walls." I rubbed my temple with my right hand.
"You are going to need to try, father, otherwise I will be forced to act."
"I understand, son. I will speak with her when I get the chance." He said.
I stood up from my seat and walked over to the bar cart. I poured my father and me some drinks, I handed one of the glasses to him and raised mine in the air. He took a sip of his dark liquor and leaned back into the leather seat. It was at this moment that I saw my father's true age. His salt and peppered hair looked more than usual, the dark circles under his eyes showed the weight the duty of being an Alpha had brought to him.
"Are you okay, father?" He nodded absently.
"I am alright. It is your mother, son. I still find it hard to believe that she would be capable of doing such a thing. This is not my Elizabeth."
"Yes, this isn't like my mother. I just think it is a passing phase that she needs to get through. She isn't in her old Pack where the laws and rules were different. We are in a new age under new rules."
"Yes I know, son." He sighed, taking another sip of his drink.
"I want her to give Elena a chance, I see all the amazing attributes of a great Luna in her already and I know mother can appreciate it. Elena will need her and I want to be able to trust her with Elena." He didn't respond, he just nodded and another sip of his drink.
I expected my father to speak to his mate and make her see things with clear eyes.
