Only you
Whatever I was expecting to hear, the news of an heir rising to their rightful place as Alpha, wasn’t it. The politics and discussion of men was never something I had a place in. As a young girl I remember saying something about a strife my father had with another pack. My father didn’t hesitate to put me in my place. I knew from that day on that what I thought didn’t matter to him. It’s funny how my life has gone full circle. Ethan’s hand lifts my chin and I’m reminded that he’s supposed to hold my attention.
“Why would the news of a new Alpha in this Goddess-forsaken world be good news? I don’t see why you would rush all the way here to tell me,” I said.
“I received word this morning that there would be an alpha meeting this weekend,” Ethan said.
“That’s… interesting,” I said.
“It is. All the Alpha’s and their Luna’s will be required to attend,” Ethan said.
“So… I’ll have to-”
“It’s your duty as my mate. You’ll have to sit by my side. Don’t worry though. You wont have to say a word. Just sit pretty and keep your mouth shut. Don’t bother trying to ask anyone to help you. No one will,” Ethan said.
“I wasn’t thinking of doing that.”
“Don’t try running either. It won’t work out well for you and I want to warn you just once, Adealine. Don’t talk to anyone,” Ethan warned.
“I won’t know anyone there except my father,” I said.
“Your friend will be there,” Ethan said.
His hand dropped from my chin and he turned from me. I was confused now. That didn’t make any sense. I didn’t have any male friends from other packs. There was no one out in the world that I knew. My father was particular with who I spent my time with and I was only allowed other women, other daughters. I wasn’t allowed to converse with male heirs from other packs.
Ethan walked towards the window, his hands were balled into fists at his side. I hadn’t really cared who this new alpha was before but if he put Ethan on edge my interest was piqued. I needed to know who it was now. The moonlight shone through the clouds and filtered through the room. It made light of Ethan’s form. I pushed off the bed and dropped to my feet. I wrung my hands together and found the courage to take my first step toward Ethan.
After the first, the second and third steps were easier. I wasn’t sure what I was doing but I couldn’t help but be drawn to him. I needed to know who he was talking about. Maybe this person could be an ally. Soon I stood at Ethan’s back with a foot between us. He didn’t move, but I knew he heard me come over, knew he could sense me just behind him.
“I have no friends,” I murmured.
“Don’t you though?” Ethan asked.
I hadn’t heard from Korra in the last month. Not since Ethan first bedded me. I could practically hear her now though, feel her, even though I knew she wasn’t. I knew what she would say, what she would do if she could see me now. I lifted my hand from my side and reached toward Ethan. I wanted to laugh. I had told myself I wouldn’t stop fighting and here I was willing to do something for him for just a little bit of information.
What would my mate think if he could see me?
What would he think of me now?
Does it matter?
He isn’t here now. He abandoned me.
He left me for Ethan.
He practically handed me over to him.
If there was anyone who was supposed to protect me. If there was someone who was supposed to love me. If there was one person who was supposed to want me. It was supposed to be him. He was supposed to keep me safe. He was supposed to adore me. he was supposed to prefer death over giving me up.
But what did he do?
He have me up.
He left me alone.
He left me to my fate.
How hard would it have been to grab my hand and run away?
Was it that hard to spend the rest of his life with me?
“No, My Alpha, I don’t. I only have you,” I murmured.
The lie dripped from my tongue. My hand made contact with his back but still he didn’t move. I took a step toward him as the torch of anger in my belly. I’m slammed with multiple emotions as I tell myself to follow through with what I started. I wrapped my other hand around his waist and Ethan made a whining sound. It disgusted me to know that my actions pleased him. I wrapped my hands around him and pressed my breasts against his back.
“Mmm… I like what you’re doing but I won’t be distracted or fooled. At the Alpha’s meeting this weekend, there’s going to be more than one familiar face,” Ethan said.
“I don’t know any heirs, My Alpha,” I murmured.
My fingers, hands, and arms were on fire. I ignored the need to get as far away from him as possible. I wanted nothing more than to push him so hard he crashed through the window. But I hadn’t had the chance to shift under the fool moon and I hadn’t heard from Korra in a month. I doubt I had the strength to knock him off his feet. No, this would just be the first step in gaining his trust. Ethan pulled my hands free and turned around in my embrace. His hard chest pressed against my face and his hard abs against my breasts. He wrapped one arm around me while the other cupped my cheek. I swallowed as I raised my eyes to his for the second time tonight. I came face to face with my captor. My prison guard. The devil who kept me locked away in this room.
“Your little boyfriend is the new Alpha,” Ethan growled.
