My heart

Before I could even attempt to explain that no man will tell me if I’m available or not, Randy placed my shots in front of me. He nodded to me and I gave him a thankful smile before noticing there was an extra. Even Randy thought I needed an extra pick me up. Without another word, I threw them back one at a time. It burned going down until I reached the last one. His gaze darted to Star as she ordered another round. My gaze scanned the room and grazed over women twerking, grinding, and shaking their breasts. I ignored the fact that I was looking for someone and turned back to Star as she spoke.
“Do you know how much your cut is yet?” Star asked curiously. Star liked money, I mean we all did, but she really liked numbers. She’d previously been in school for accounting when she realized there wasn’t really any money in it. I shook my head and tried my best to keep the sour expression from my face.
“No, not yet, but I don’t plan on quitting,” I said.“Of course not. The money’s too good,” she said with a shrug. “Besides, that’s just for the rest of the year. He might be gone next year and then what? Don’t put all of your eggs into one basket. Spread that shit out. Just think of this as a special assignment until he’s gone.” Leaning in, she murmured in my ear. “Char has been bugging me to consider taking on VIP clients.”
“All ready?” I asked. I shouldn’t have been shocked but it hadn’t even been 24 hours since Shane entered the picture.
“Right? That’s what I’m saying. You did bring in good money tho,” Star said honestly.
“I do bring in good money. That doesn’t change with this one client. I do and will continue to bring in good money,” I said.
“True, but you know how Char is. She’s just trying to use the opportunity to get me to spread my legs for a rich man,” Star said exaggeratedly. I raised an eyebrow at her. “Not saying that you do that. I mean, I’ll give little favors to my favorite clients, but she knows, everyone knows how I feel about the VIP rooms,” Star said. Irritation flashed in her eyes. It was clear as day that Star refused to take clients back there. Everyone was aware of her motto, “My body is meant to be shared.”
“I could care less about what Char wants. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. I on the other hand have no choice. For one year I’ll only serve this client, but after that I’m open for business,” I said confidently. I smiled at her, but inside I was crumbling at the thought of Shane leaving me in the dust after taking what he wants. It scares me because I have this feeling I’ll still give him what he wants when I know there’s a chance he’ll leave me with nothing in the end. Is there anything I can do to protect my heart?
“Try telling that to Char,” Star said as she rolled her eyes.
“Well, Chance is available now and if you have to take on a VIP client, he’s honestly the best client I’ve ever had. I’ve dealt with some pretty shitty dudes and Chance is good. His tastes are also easy to handle, but,” I held my hands up as she opened to ask what his tastes were, “I’ve gained his trust and he’s gained mine. If you want more info, that’ll be up to him to tell you. But we both know how some of the men can be,” I said as quietly as I could, but loud enough for her to hear me over the music.
“Oh, I know,” Star laughed. “I just hate giving in to what she wants. Before you know it, I’ll end up downstairs.”
“Like I said, Char can’t make you do anyth—” Star groans as she looks over my shoulder. Turning around, I spot Char as she walks over to us in a black thong and a silver spaghetti strap crop top that was barely being held together by a black buckle. Her breasts were threatening to break free and fling the buckle across the room. Her red hair was put up in a tight pony tail, was pulled over her shoulder, and flowed down one side of her chest.
“Good evening, baddies,” Char said as she threw her hair over her shoulder. Randy slid her insane number of shots across the counter as she stepped past me.
“Hey Char,” Star greeted with her best smile. I fought the urge to laugh as I smiled in greeting.
“Are you guys ready to serve?” The manager asked.
“Oh, yes, I can’t wait,” Star said.
“Well, go on. The sooner you’re up on that stage, the sooner the money flows in,” Char said after she threw back a shot. Star rolled her eyes and waved before walking away. I could practically see tongues lolling out as she made her way toward the stage. I was ready to turn away when Char turned to look at me. “How was he? From what I saw when you walked out of here, you looked like you’d had a good time,” she said.
“I did what I always do,” I said, keeping my tone light.
“Mm.. Donny caused an issue, but he’ll be out for a week, so we shouldn’t have anymore problems. Make sure you set boundaries with the men you see outside of work,” she said.
“What I do outside of work isn’t anyone’s business,” I started.
“It is when it affects our work life,” Char snapped, her green eyes narrowed as she warned me to disagree with her. “Don’t make me the bad guy. I’m only enforcing the rules and making sure you guys do what you’re supposed to do.”
“There’s nothing going on with Donny,” I said through clenched teeth.
“Good. Now go and serve him. Don’t keep him waiting,” Char said, dismissing me.
