Divine
Adea
There was no word from Shane. I didn’t even know if he was still alive. That thought alone threw me into a great depression. It had been hard to get up from my bed this morning. I’d cried to myself to sleep worrying about him. I hated feeling so helpless, was there a way I could help him? No matter how much I thought about it, I came up empty. There was nothing that I could do to help him right now. Other than… obey my father.
No one said anything and there was no one I could ask. Sitting in the sitting hall, I didn’t turn to look as the door opened and two sets of feet walked in. My wolf had awakened but she hadn’t talked to me. I could feel her presence. It was strong, she was strong. I could feel myself retreating. The thought of her not liking me hurt me deeply. My mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Shane. I could still feel him inside of me, his lips on mine, his hands on me. An intense need to see him again had uprooted my day. I yearned for news of him.
“Stand,” Ava said from behind me.
Tomorrow was the day of the celebration. The gowns arrived today and I needed to try them on to ensure they fit. Boxes were dropped onto the table.
“Greetings, daughter of the Alpha.”
This voice was familiar. I looked back over my shoulder and found Gabriel standing by the table. His head was bowed. When our eyes locked, he stared down at me with a small smile on his lips. A small flare of hope sparked in my chest. He said he would help me. Did he have news? Time was ticking.
“Greetings, Gabriel.”
“Adea,” Ava huffed as she tapped her foot. “We don’t have all day. The celebration is tonight and you aren’t ready. You don’t even know which one you’re going to go with. You have a few to try. We’ll decide after you’ve tried them on. We have plenty to do. You’re mopping around isn’t helping anyone.”
I wanted to tell her where she could go but I held back. I didn’t have it in me to tell Ava to get out of my hair. My focus was on Gabriel now that he was here. I had completely forgotten about him but now I felt hopeful.
“You are stunning,” a voice said from behind me.
I didn’t need to look to know who it was. He was here. His presence only made it real. I didn’t turn to face him. My hand rested on my stomach and Gabriel took a step back. His eyes never left me until he bowed his head as the sound of footsteps grew near. Strong arms wrapped around my waist and I was pulled back into his embrace. My back pressed against his front. He was hard where I was soft. It felt wrong. All wrong. I wasn’t supposed to be in his arms, in his embrace. He wasn’t supposed to touch me. I felt sick to my stomach as he leaned down and his nose pressed against my neck.
“You smell divine, Adealine,” Ethan murmured.
“What are you doing here? The celebration isn’t until tomorrow.”
“I couldn’t wait, I had to see you,” Ethan whispered. Goosebumps erupted around my neck as his lips brushed against the sensitive skin. Every cell in my body was screaming for him to get away from me. He wasn’t my mate, he wasn’t my person. I didn’t want to feel his hands on me, his warmth was wrong. This was all wrong.
My wolf surged forward. The feeling was new. I had no control, I felt like I was sitting back and watching her as she took the reins. In my mind’s eye, I could see her as clear as day. Her white fur was beautiful, she appeared angelic but as she bared her canines, I knew she was fierce.
“If you don’t get the fuck off of me, dog, I will sink my teeth into you and rip out your jugular,” My wolf threatened.
Ethan’s arm around my waist stiffened and Gabriel’s eyes widened. Ava gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. She came at me but with one look from Ethan, she stayed still. Ethan’s hands gripped my waist and I flipped around until I faced him. He pushed me and my back collided with the table.
That’s when hell broke loose. Noises I’ve never made before fell from my mouth. My body jerked as I fought to get out from under him. I snarled and my claws protracted from the tips of my fingers. I swiped wildly at Ethan and when I broke skin I grinned in satisfaction. With one hand, Ethan grabbed my wrists and held them up above my head.
“Get the fuck off of me,” Korra growled.
“What’s your name, Wolf?” Ethan demanded.
My chest rose and fell rapidly as my wolf lifted her chin and glared at Ethan. This was the closest I’d been to him since the day he checked my purity in the dining hall. I tasted bile on my tongue but it didn’t shake Korra. Ethan’s hair had grown since I’d seen him last, long black straight hair fell above his shoulders. His piercing green eyes held me captive in his gaze.
I didn’t miss the way they flickered back and forth between green and yellow. His wolf was present and was pushing forward. How did he feel about Korra? How did he feel about this arrangement with me? Ethan is a beautiful man. He was alluring and I’m sure women were falling at his feet. Why was he so persistent when it came to me? Why had he agreed to this joining with my father?
“Korra.”
What a pretty name. She hasn’t spoken to me and I’m not sure why. Ethan touching us set her off. I also can’t stomach it but she’s got guts. She’s brave and I can feel her bravery becoming my own as I watch her stand her own against him. Ethan’s hand gripped my cheeks and he lowered his face until they were eye to eye.
“Oh, Korra. Don’t you know how to show respect?” Ethan asked.
She spat in his hand and I gasped. Ethan’s eyes darkened and a sinister smile pulled at the corners of his lips. Korra wasn’t afraid, she wasn’t going to let him think he had any hold on her.
