Can't

“Have you done anything to earn my respect? I give respect where it’s due and you,” Korra shook her head. “You don’t deserve any of it.” My head whipped to the left as his hand came across my cheek. Pain exploded on the right side of my face. Ethan had hit me.
“I’ll have to show you how to address your Alpha.”
“You’re not my Alpha,” Korra hissed.
“I am your mate!” Ethan growled.
“You are not! That title belongs to another. You only seek to take what isn’t yours,” Korra spat. Korra was holding her own against him. “I will not bow to you, you disgust me,” she seethed.
You can’t let him touch what isn’t his. We aren’t his.
“I am your mate and your Alpha. The sooner you come to grips with the truth, the easier it will be for you. If I so much as smell another man on you, I will rip out his heart in front of you,” Ethan promised.
“It is not I who needs to come to terms with the truth,” Korra said icily.
Goddess. His hands gripped my waist and I was hoisted into the air and thrown on the table. For the first time since Korra came forward, I sensed a flicker of fear. She held her head high as she glared up at Ethan. He shoved my legs apart and stood between them. I could feel his heat and my thighs shook with fear. His hand snaked up my back and gripped a handful of my hair. He yanked it down and my head was pulled back, forcing my chin up.
“I’m looking forward to putting you in your place,” he growled. The shiver that went down my spine was clear. His eyes darkened and he glared into my eyes. “Adealine? Why don’t you come out now? If you continue to hide from me, I’m going to play with your wolf.”
No. I didn’t want that to happen. If I came forward now, he would stop this. I knew that look in his eye. I knew what he wanted to do to me. I knew what he wanted to do to us. I couldn’t let that happen. I tried to push forward but failed. This was the first time I’d been pushed into the darkest parts of my mind. I needed to come back. I needed to call Korra back.

Korra.
I could feel her hesitation to return. I knew she didn’t want to leave me alone with him. She didn’t want to withdraw into my mind again. She saw the look in Ethan’s eyes and didn’t want to stay and see what he meant but she didn’t feel right about leaving me.
It’s okay. Let me out.
As if a key had been turned, a lock clicked and I was free. I pushed forward and Korra handed me the reigns as she retreated into my mind. I looked up at Ethan and when he realized it was me, he smiled. His hand came up and caressed my cheek. Slightly, I moved away from his palm. I didn’t miss the way his eye twitched in annoyance.
“Are you fighting me too, my little mate?” Ethan asked.
“I’m not your mate, Ethan. It’s not a fight, it’s the truth.”
His thumb and index finger gripped my chin and pulled it forward so that I was facing him. His eyes were hard, his jaw clenched as I stared at him. His other hand gripped my thigh and I flinched as he squeezed.
“You are what I say you are,” Ethan said. His voice was firm and I think he believed his words. “You are mine. You’ve always been mine. Whatever notion you have in your mind about your mate is incorrect. I am your master, your Lord, your Alpha. These fanciful little thoughts in your head are unnecessary. Leave the thinking to me.”
What could I say to get through to him? Was that even possible? Why was he so obsessed with me? Ethan’s hand on my thigh trailed up my front, hovered over my private area, and continued up to my stomach. His eyes had dropped to my chest. They had darkened and I swallowed.
Before he could do anything, someone coughed and I turned to find the source of the sound. My gaze landed on Gabriel and Ava. I had forgotten they were here. If looks could kill, Ava’s would have skinned me alive. Gabriel looked at me with pity and I didn’t have the strength to feel angry. I was pitiful.
“We have dresses to try on. The Celebration is tomorrow,” Gabriel said with a bow of his head.
Ethan didn’t move for a minute. I could feel him considering his options. I knew what he wanted. Could he wait another day? Or would he take what he thought he was owed today? I held my breath of relief as he took a step back. He offered me his hand. As much as I wanted to hop off the table myself, I didn’t want to provoke him. I took his hand and his lip twitched as he helped me down from the table. He lifted my hand to his lips and I stared down my nose at him. I wanted to pull my hand from his grasp but I told myself to hold on. Just a few more moments and I’ll have my hand back. He straightened his back and smiled at me.
“I’ll see you at dinner,” Ethan said.
I nodded and he turned. Ava took a few steps toward him but he ignored her. He continued walking and it wasn’t until the warriors closed the door behind him that Ava turned to me. She glared at me as if it were my fault he ignored her. The relationship between the two of them was off-putting. Why was she okay with being his mistress? I didn’t care if he had a mistress.
A mistress meant I would have less time with him. A mistress meant that he would have someone else that would meet his needs. The thought of having my sister fill that role made me feel sick to my stomach. I didn’t want Ethan in the first place but sharing him with my sister made me feel like a whore.
