She's Mine

The world doesn’t end. The waves are receding. There are still people not too far away from us having fun. This isn’t a hallucination. Odis is standing a foot away from me, staring down at me like he’s getting bored with the fact that I’m still very much still on the blanket. Donny’s knuckles crack and my eyes dart to him before returning to Odis. I hate the way my gaze darts behind him. No Shane. Odis notices but remains silent. My neck is already sore from looking up at him, so I get to my feet and fold my arms in front of my chest.
“You must be mistaken.”
“I am not,” Odis said.
“You’re interrupting,” Donny growls.
“We need to leave,” Odis says as he pulls on his ear.
“There is no we. You shouldn’t be here,” I huffed.
“Do you not remember what happened the last time you were with him?” Odis asked. My eyes widen as the memory of Donny’s bone cracking.
“Is that a threat?” Donny chuckles as he takes a step onto the blanket.
“No, no, that’s not what he’s saying,” I say.
I put my hand on his chest to stop him. Odis doesn’t even look his way, his eyes are trained on me. I barely know him, but there’s something about the way he’s holding himself right now that gives me the impression that he’s nervous.
“I think it is and I can take him,” Donny grunts.
“There will be no taking anyone,” I said.
“We don’t have time for this,” Odis sighs.
“And why is that?” I asked.
“I have time,” Donny grumbles.
“D,” I warn.
“We need to leave. I think it would be best if you came of your own free will,” Odis said.
“And if I don’t?” I asked. I didn’t bother hiding the irritation from my tone.
“Then I’ll have to take you. I have my orders,” he said.
“You won’t be taking her,” Donny said as he took another step forward.
“I’m not done here. You know this is insane, right? He can’t tell me who I can and can’t hang out with. I don’t belong to him,” I said. The words tasted like a lie, but I ignored that.
“I understand that you are angry, but that’s something you need to talk to my alpha about. I have my job and that’s to make sure you leave here,” Odis said calmly.
“This is so frustrating!” I groan.
“There’s your answer. I think you’re the one who needs to leave,” Donny said.
I don’t want to do what Shane wants. I want to do the exact opposite and let Donny and Odis go at it even though I know Odis will win. I was already going to Shane’s with Odis, but having his beta interrupt my date is only pissing me off. I’d rebel if I wasn’t afraid of what might happen to Donny if I don’t. I can’t let anything else happen to him. The sound of a door slamming drew my attention. My lips parted as my eyes landed on glowing yellow ones.
Shane was here.
He’s wearing slacks and a black unbuttoned dress shirt. He isn’t wearing anything underneath it. I swallow the lump in my throat as I take him in. Noticing my gaze is looking at something behind him, Odis turned and looked to find Shane. He cursed, bowed, and turned back to me. This time, I knew for sure. Odis was anxious. This is why we had to leave. This is why he was here. Was it to stop us from meeting? Or was it to prevent me from seeing what was going to happen? Was Odis even supposed to be here? Shane had cut through the distance in a matter of seconds. His beta stepped aside and now I was staring at his chest. Raising my chin, I stared up at him as defiantly as I could. I ignored the guilt that stabbed my chest and the need to explain what was going on. My heart beat at double speed with his proximity. The glow of his eyes told me Max was here and as angry as Shane was.
I hated that he was here.
I hated that I loved that he was here.
I loved how jealous he was.
“Get in the truck, Adea,” Shane growled.
“She doesn’t have to go anywhere with you,” Donny snarled.
“D, stop. Why are you here?” I asked.
“Odis,” he said curtly.
The sound of his voice mixed with his wolf as they said it together. Arms wrapped around me and I was lifted off the ground. I kicked and wriggled, but Odis had a firm grip. Donny reached out and grabbed Odis’ shoulder and then there was screaming. Donny’s mixed with a woman somewhere watching the scene unfold. The hand and the arm connected to Odis, fell to the floor. I stared at it on the sand as blood gushed from it. My eyes darted to Donny to find him grabbing the stump.
“I’m always removing limbs from bodies for you,” Shane chuckled. As if he’d made a joke and found it funny. Not like he’d just sliced through a man’s body with his claws.
“Leave him alone! Dammit, Shane!” I yelled.
Donny swings the hand he has left and it connects with Shane’s cheek. The man I love isn’t fazed. I don’t think he even flinches. The veins on his neck and temple are popping out. His body vibrates with so much rage, I’m surprised he hasn’t shifted. Donny lifts his head back and brings it down. The sound of him headbutting Shane is as loud as thunder.
“We aren’t together, Shane. We’re just friends! Please,” I beg.
Donny swings again, but he grabs his arm and removes it from his body. It isn’t a clean slice this time. It’s savage, rough, and I’ll never forget the sound of his bone popping out of his shoulder. Donny throws his head back and howls before falling to his knees. His eyes find mine as Odis continues to cart me away.
“Fuck!” Donny yelled.
“Put me down, Odis. I’ll never forgive you for this. Put me down!” I shrieked.
“Didn’t I warn you?” Shane asked as he squatted down so he was eye-level with Donny.
“I can’t remember. Refresh my memory,” Donny spat. Shane’s hand darts forward and wraps around his neck. Donny starts to choke as Shane squeezes. He leans forward so they’re only inches apart.
“She’s mine,” Shane growled.
Then he crushed his windpipe.
