You dare?

We were caught now, we weren’t escaping, and there was a very high chance that we wouldn’t live to see a new day. Guilt washed over me. I had doomed my mate and sealed his fate. We were taken into the room she had come out from. I was unable to break free from whatever hold she had on me. My jaw dropped as we descended stairs to a floor I didn’t know we had. When we hit the landing, my heart raced as I realized where we were. I’d been here once, but had been so drunk with pain.
We were in the dungeons below the castle. There were no windows, no outside light, and no real furniture other than the one in the middle of the room. It was a metal table bolted to the ground. The walls were littered with chains, weapons of torture, and toys meant for pleasure. I gulped as I looked around the room. This was a room for prisoners. I watched as my mate was thrown against the wall.
He was powerless to do anything and as wolf bane soaked chains wrapped around his wrists, I knew we weren’t going to escape. He cried out as they wrapped around his body, the metal burned his skin and the smell of burnt flesh filled the air. I whimpered as that all too familiar overwhelming feeling of helplessness filled me.
“Fuck you,” he growled as he glared at the witch. “What do you want from us?”
“Nothing. I want nothing with you,” she said quietly.
“Can’t you let us go?” I asked. She turned to me, her lavender eyes landing on me as she cocked her head.
“Alpha wants something with your mate. You were supposed to go to him, but when you never showed I was called in,” she said. I swallowed as I thought of Alpha. “He’s not happy you know. Men aren’t allowed here, especially this one. You know that,” she said.
“Please, just let him go,” I begged. She didn’t flinch, she didn’t even pretend to consider it. She shook her head. Her gaze hard and uncaring as she looked me in the eyes.
“Don’t waste your breath on me. I’m loyal. If you had been, this wouldn’t be happening, and you wouldn’t have to lose him,” she said as she looked at my mate. She was right. This was my fault, I knew that. I didn’t have much time to think about it. I flew through the air until I was seated on the metal table in the middle of the room. “That’s a lie. This plan has been in the works for years. You would have lost him either way,” she said.
Two large chains slid up and around my ankles. I was pushed until I was lying flat on my back and my legs dangled over the edge of the table. Cold heavy chains slid up the cold legs of the table and wrapped around my wrists. I didn’t cry out as they seared the skin.
I couldn’t move as the chains tightened and I was locked in place. A door flew open and all of the air was expelled from my lungs. I couldn’t breathe, instead, I listened intently as his footsteps came down the steps. Alpha stood in the entryway, his eyes dark and cold, the aura around him threatening.
My body clenched at the idea of my mate witnessing what was about to happen. Please, Goddess, not like this. As soon as his gaze locked on me, his eyes darkened and he made his way toward me. His chest rose and fell as he closed the distance between us. His brown hair fell over his green eyes, his pink lips were pulled down in a scowl, and I knew I was going to be punished.
I wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself at the mercy of his wolf. I shuttered at the thought. I’ve made Alpha angry a few times before and it ended with me being beaten bloody and blue. Tonight would be no different. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes and an overwhelming sadness washed over me. Today, I would give Alpha what he wanted. I would fight back. I didn’t want my mate to see, I didn’t want him to watch.
The witch closed her eyes and bowed her head as he came to a stop by the table. I closed my eyes as his footsteps stopped at the foot of the table. When someone grunted, my eyes flew open and I turned my head to find the noise. Alpha was no longer in front of me, now, he stood above my mate.
I shrieked as his foot came back and flew forward until it connected with my mate and bone snapped. He had broken a rib and plea after plea from my lips fell on deaf ears as Alpha continued hurting him. I begged him to spare him, to leave him alone, to stop. My mate stared at me, a mixture of anger and panic filled his eyes. Alpha doesn’t look at me, he doesn’t blink or hesitate at the sound of my please. If anything, they only anger him more and he kicks my mate so hard he doubles over and groans.
The chain hold his hands above his head as his head and body sag forward. He spits up blood as another kick lands against his torso. I look at the witch for help. She’s the only other person here who could help. She watches them with an emotionless expression on her face.
It’s useless.
It wasn’t until I told Alpha to come to me that he stopped. Alpha turned from him and started towards me. I would rather hold his attention than have him focused on my mate. His angers flash from a glowing yellow to the coldest shade of green I’ve ever seen.
“You dare run from me?” Alpha growled.
“Please,” I beg.
