Gods
Adoring obsidian eyes betrayed the smirk at one corner of his lips. The words lacked their usual sting. Shane was a man of many mysteries, and while I have wanted to solve every single once since the moment he walked into my VIP room, that’s not what I wanted to do right now. He was selfish, arrogant, and did whatever he wanted, but most of all, he was infuriating. Even after all he’s done, my heart still skipped a beat as his eyes dipped to my lips. I wanted to scream, but I settled on yanking my chin free from his grasp.
“I’m crying because you murdered my friend and all you can say is I’m ugly when I cry?” I shrieked.
He laughed.
“Why are you laughing? You’re such an ass!” I wailed. More tears streaked down my cheeks, and I swiped them away angrily.
“Shh, that’s not what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean, Shane? You know, other than the literal meaning?”
“It’s an old joke you wouldn’t understand,” he murmured.
“You don’t make any sense,” I cried.
“I know,” he murmured softly.
Lifting my arms, I brought my arms to my face in an attempt to block him from seeing. But no matter how hard I tried to stop the flow, it was too late. The dam had broken loose and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Dropping my hands to my side, I stared forward.
“You said you had plans with my sister. Was that true? Or did you only say that so your lover wouldn’t come after you?”
When I remained quiet, I could feel his gaze as he drilled holes into the side of my face. Sighing, I turned to look at him. Uncaring now of how I must look to him. Those dark pools of obsidian bore into my soul. He’d called Chance my lover, and after what we’d done, he was right. But I knew what he wanted. I knew and I wouldn’t do anything to correct him. His gaze only darkened. Something I didn’t know was possible. Unwilling to say anything to lighten that look in his eyes and unable to bear the weight of it, I lowered my gaze as I responded.
“I wasn’t lying. I made plans with her earlier today.”
“Why were you guys together? You’re off today.”
Instead of being surprised or angry that he knows what days I work at my second job, but I’m not.
“We had brunch.”
“And how did that go? Are the two of you… friends?”
“I mean… we made plans for a sleepover, so… I’d say we are,” I answered.
“Look at me,” he ordered. I did without hesitation.
“I’m going to tell you right now, you’re not having a sleepover with my sister.”
“How dare y—”
“You two can hang out, talk, and do girl shit, but at the end of the night? You will be in my bed. And do you know why?”
“I have a feeling you’re going to tell me even if I don’t ask,” I sassed.
“Because you’re mine. Because that’s where you belong and because you said you were going to obey.”
Fuck.
“I don’t hear you, Princess,” he cooed.
I have a lot of words I want him to hear right now.
“Yes, sir,” I answered dramatically, giving him a little bow.
“Is that attitude?” he growled.
“Am I not Adea?” I sassed.
“Mm… I do love it when you fight back,” he sighed. His lips twitched, the hint of his real smile right there begging to be released.
“I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me,” I sighed.
The car was silent for a moment.
“What made you think that?”
“Um… maybe the way you fucked me against my apartment wall and left me without a word?” I hissed.
“You sound angry,” he replied calmly.
I swear on the Moon Goddess, the gods of old, and whatever else might rule over our tiny world.
“You treated me like a whore!”
“Aren’t you?”
My mouth dropped open. Those two words were a slap to the face. It was like he’d poured a bucket of cold water over my head and I laughed. Of course he thinks this way of me. Nothing Shane says should surprise me and yet here I am. He hurt me every chance he got. Closing my mouth, I remained quiet as he lowered his head so his face was directly in front of mine.
“Are you ignoring me?”
“Is the moon in the sky?” I retorted.
“I thought you were going to obey me?”
“That’s what I said. I don’t remember saying I wouldn’t talk back. If you want someone who won’t speak their mind, you’ll need to find another poor girl to force into spending time with you because not being sassy wasn’t part of the deal.”
“Gods, I love that mouth of yours,” he growled.
“Fuck y—”
He smashed his lips to mine, cutting my words shorts. I fought as he devoured me. Everything ached, and I hated how easily my body wanted to fall in line. Forcing his way in, his tongue drove into my mouth. The fight left slowly left my body as he claimed me in the only ways he ever would. I melted against him, wishing for the man who’d showed me kindness to come back. Just this morning I’d told myself there were more men out there, that Shane wasn’t the only one. He sucked my tongue and ran his along every inch of mine. Pulling apart, we glared at each other. Our chest rising and falling, my pussy wet and I knew if I glanced down, I’d see the imprint of his cock in his pants—confirming that he wanted me as much as I wanted him.
Lies.
There were other men, but none who were like him.
“You want to finish that?”
“Fuck. You,” I spat.
“Gladly,” he chuckled.
“Wait, no, that’s not what I mea—”
Shane grabbed my arm and yanked. In the next moment, I was sitting in his lap. Tumbling forward, my face landed on his chest as his hands wandered over my blue long-sleeve sweater. I could feel him beneath me.
Somehow, someway, he was already hard and bulging against my ass. His fingers brushed over my breasts, causing me to suck in a breath before they dipped and trailed along the hem of my skirt. My mind told me I shouldn’t be doing this, not when he’d just killed Donny, but my body screamed yes. The bargain I’d made with him made me freeze.
No, that was a lie.
I wanted this.
Telling myself I didn’t was a lie.
I wanted every bit of Shane.
Even after all he’s done.
Goddess, I’m fucked.
Shane’s claws came out to play, and they trailed down my thighs. I watched as his breaths came out more ragged, betraying his feelings. He wanted me. And even though I knew he did, the way he left me last night made me doubt everything. Yes, we made a deal, but that only bound me to him. That didn’t tie his hands. He got what he wanted. And I had no choice but to follow along. He leaned forward, his lips close to my ear.
“And don’t be mistaken. I want no one else but you.”
