Someone?
Adea
Alpha did not address me for the remainder of the dinner. He spoke to Beta Odis and Olivia about his plans for tomorrow. Ava didn’t eat I remained quiet as to not draw any unwanted attention to myself and pushed the food around on my plate. I wasn’t sure if I believed Alpha when he said that he would be there tomorrow. I didn’t believe that I would be able to see him tomorrow. I’d waited so long for new from him and prayed to the Moon Goddess to no avail.
A cup was placed in front of me and I lifted my chin, only to realize that the room was quiet and the only people left in the dining hall were me and Alpha. When had they left and how long have we been here? I had to be exhausted from today’s events to not have noticed. As much as I told myself that I knew that something was amiss.
I looked back and forth between him and the goblet of the red liquid that could help me through the rest of this miserable night. Without a second thought, I picked up the cup and brought it to my lips. I tipped my head back and drank until the liquid spilled down my mouth and dripped from my chin. I inhaled gasps of air between gulps as I was determined to finish the whole thing before I lowered the cup back to the table.
When I looked up Alpha was not in his seat. A body leaned in front of me and his hand gripped the table. I looked up to find him on my left, his cold gaze left goosebumps in it’s wake, and my throat dried at his closeness. His lust-filled eyes took and took and I wasn’t sure if I had anything left to give. I held my breath as I tipped my head back and stared up at him.
“Let’s retire for the night,” Alpha murmured.
He straightens his back and takes a step toward the door. I press my hands to the table and push up off the floor. My head spins as soon as I stand to my feet and I feel a bout of dizziness. A muscular arm shoots out and wraps around my waist. The world doesn’t slow down and have no choice but to reach out and hold onto him. Alpha pulls me up into his arms and I rest my head on his chest.
There’s nothing I can do, but pray for the world to still. I have no ability to push off of him or pull away. I’m powerless to do anything, but my mind doesn’t stop. The need to get as far away from his as possible claws at my insides, but no matter how hard I try I can’t break free. The only thing I can do is sit limply in his arms as he heads towards the doors.
They are pulled open and Alpha walks out into the hall. There’s a tingling in the tips of my fingers and it makes it’s way up my arms and down my back as he strides away from the dining hall. I’m unsure what this uncomfortable feeling is, but I know that there’s something I’m forgetting.
Or is it someone?
At some point I’m awoken to the sounds of heavy breathing in my ear. Something large and heavy pushes down on me. No matter how hard I try to push against the weight it doesn’t budge. The weight lifts and I suck in as much air as possible. Alpha hovers above me and for a second I wished he had squished me to death. I can’t see his face, it’s shadowed in darkness. All I can see is the glow of his eyes as his wolf glares down at me. The possessiveness in them is something I’ve grown used to.
“Are you excited to see your little boyfriend tomorrow?” He snarled.
I can almost feel his canines as they snap just above my face. I’m paralyzed in bed, once again powerless beneath him. Anger radiates off of him, but what’s new? It doesn’t surprise me, but I hate to admit it scares me. It scares me and yet, what else could he do to me that he hadn’t done already? I don’t answer him, but he must see the answer in my eyes. He lowered himself so that his nose brushed against mine.
“Haven’t we already been over this? Now that he’s an alpha don’t you wonder why he hasn’t come for you? Do you think he’d want you now that he’s risen to power? What could you give him that another cannot?” Alpha snapped.
His hand slid up my torso, brushed over my breast, and came to rest around my neck. He meant to hurt me physically, but it couldn’t hurt as much as his words had. They chipped away at what was left of my armor and clawed at my fragile heart. Tears filled and blurred my eyes as I stared into his green ones.
“If he was powerful enough to defeat and kill his father, why hasn’t he declared war? Do you think he’s faithful to you? No one wants you more than I and even I don’t hold back from tasting other fruit. What would you do if he brings someone?” Alpha asked.
I hate that his words encourage my negative thoughts. Doubt piles and my insecurity festers as thoughts of my past with him come flooding into my mind. He’s been with other women before and the slice of betrayal cuts deep. Do I have any right to feel this way when I’ve been with Alpha?
“Do you think he could ever be with you again after what you’ve done?” Alpha whispered.
The tears overflow and spill down my cheeks. They trickle into my ear and I blink as the dam breaks free. Alpha wraps me up in his arms, I’m pulled on top of him as he sits up. His large hands push my hair back from my face.
“Shh, shh, shh, it’s okay, My Queen. I’m here,” Alpha murmured into my ear.
