Shane took his warmth with him, and my skin pebbled. I blinked up at the ceiling before I stared at his back. It seemed unfair. I lay naked beside him, while he was the exact opposite. Sitting up, I reached out, my fingers hesitated. We’d gone so much farther today than we ever had before. I didn’t want to lose him. I touched his back. Everything happened so fast. I couldn’t even track it. His spine straightened, and in a flash, he gripped my arm. I yelped as our eyes locked. There was a haunted look in his gaze, but when he blinked, it was gone. He released me and took a deep, shuddering breath.
“Shane…”
“I needed to get up,” he replied gruffly.
“Yeah? That’s fine. I don’t mind,” I answered carefully.
“If we stayed like that, I would have fucked you again.”
“I wouldn’t have minded that either,” I laughed.
“Mm..” he hummed.
“Don’t think you’re off the hook just because you’re willing to be cute.”
Crawling to the edge of the bed, I pretended not to notice the towel I left behind. I threw my legs over the edge and stood to my feet. I yelped as he smacked my backside. The resounding smack was loud. I shook my head and headed toward his closet. Grabbing the first shirt I could, I slipped on a long-sleeve that drooped to my knees. I knew he was huge, but the size difference has never been as clear as it was right now. Biting my lip, I clenched a fist full of material and stepped into the room. His eyes hungrily roamed over me, but I schooled my expression.
“So… if we were lovers in the first one, what were we in the other one?” Sitting next to him, I squeezed my thighs together and looked at him. Shane turned to stare into my eyes.
“Cursed.”
“Okay, so not only are we star-crossed lovers, but we’re also cursed? Yikes.” I grimaced. It felt as if the air had thickened, but I knew that couldn’t be right. The expression he wore caused my heart to squeeze. “Our love story doesn’t sound so great.” Teasing him, I hoped to lighten the mood. Unlikely. But the way his lips turned up, I knew it had worked.
“No, it doesn’t, does it?” His eyes darkened, and not in the hot way, but in a sad way. I didn’t like it.
Getting up, I stepped between his thighs. I wasn’t that much taller than him standing, but he tipped his chin up to stare at me. There was a longing look in his eyes, as if I wasn’t really here. Reaching down, I grabbed his arms and wrapped them around my waist. His gaze soaked up every inch of me in his shirt. The heat there told me he liked it. He liked it a lot.
Shane had drawn a line in the sand the moment we met, but tonight, we were acting like there wasn’t one. He didn’t move, but that’s okay. I’d do everything tonight. Despite all of my fears, I couldn’t seem to remember a single of of them. Go figure. I’d worry about that tomorrow. Right now, I had no problem letting him know I was the one giving chase.
“So… on top of being star-crossed, you got to claim my v-card in each one?”
He clenched his jaw before his eyes lit up. Just a little. I was playing a dangerous game mentioning that, but I wanted to see how serious he was.
“Yes. Your virginity was always mine,” he growled.
“But you said we weren’t lovers in the others.”
“No,” he confirmed. He watched me, as if waiting for the shoe to drop. And then it did. My eyes rounded.
“You… raped me?” The shock was clear, but there was no doubt. Remembering the night we met, I could see how I could have easily let him. Not saying that rape is okay, but if he was to come for me in every life… I’d cum for him too. I giggled. His eyebrows jumped, and I barely composed myself.
“The thought of me taking you against your will… is funny to you?” He was almost snarling. His grip on my hip bordering on painful.
Oops. The big bad alpha was angry.
“No, yes, I mean…”
“Princess.”
“I read, okay? As in romance with dark themes. This isn’t really that crazy. Now obviously that’s fiction, and this is reality, but… dub-con is one of my kinks.”
“Dub-con?”
“Yeah. Dubious consent.” I bit down on my lips. I wasn’t trying so hard not to laugh. We’re nice here, but seeing him with a genuinely confused look on his face made it so hard. “Look. You raping me doesn’t sound right. You may not have asked, but I’m sure I never said no.”
His lips parted, and then he moved. His hands were gripping my thighs and lifting me up and pulling me onto him. My brain finally caught up, and I straddled him. I gripped his hair and cheek and we kissed. Our breaths mingling as I melted against him. When I started grinding on him, he pulled away.
“Ask me something else,” he murmured.
“It’s kind of hard right now… my mind is on other things,” I answered honestly.
“Go on.”
“Why don’t you tell me something I wouldn’t be able to find out?”
Pushing him down, he went willingly and stared up at me. His curls fell back as he smirked.
“I like this position,” I whispered. That made him smile.
“So do I. Something you’d never be able to find out?… Gabe is your best friend. Has been since the dawn of time.”
“That’s an obvious one. You’ve had people following me. That’s just information. And… the dawn of time? What? Are you 500 years old?” I mocked.
“He’s your best friend in every life. Why do you think he’s still alive? Look… I did what you asked, but it doesn’t matter what I say. You won’t believe me.” He shook his head, and I leaned back. Lifting my hands in front of me defensively.
“Wait! Give me… tell me something that hasn’t happened yet.”
“Done. I know who his mate is,” he said without hesitation.
