Goddess

Shane
It felt as if days had passed, we left when it was still dark out and we traveled on as the sun rose. I’ve never wanted for something more than I have wanted to arrive. When the mountain came into view, it was harder to keep a lid on my nerves. My sister wasn’t facing me, but I knew she was watching me. She didn’t say anything as my leg bounced anxiously.
I gripped my thighs and stared out the window as started our ascent up the mountain. Clouds surrounded us and everything was hidden from view. Had I not ordered my best warriors to follow at a safe distance I would have felt uneasy.
The meeting would be the best way to lure an enemy pack in, but I was not their enemy, not all of them anyway. There were more than a handful of Alpha’s my pack had alliances with. My Beta would ensure the they were still strongly in place. If need be, we would renegotiate, but I wasn’t worried about that. There was only one thing on my mind.

Her.

She was the only thing, the only person that occupied my thoughts. The higher we got the tighter the air was. After two more hours we were above the clouds. I peaked out of the window and it looked as if we were soaring through the heavens. There was nothing but white below us, but when I looked up there was more road, trees, and the end was in sight.
Eventually the bumps in the road evened out and soon the clip-clopping of hooves over stone. There was the familiar sound of running water as we traveled over a bridge. We were almost there. Trent was in the carriage behind us, but I felt him tug on the link.

Alpha.
Yes?
Please wait for me to open your door when we arrive.
I am capable of opening my door myself Gamma.
As your Gamma it is my job to keep you safe. Your Beta will be in charge of greeting the Alpha. I will open your door after we’ve confirmed that their is no danger.

I cut the link. There was a lot of things I as Alpha was to be aware of. The Deltas had tried to tell me what I was and wasn’t to do. I gave him a handful of records from the office. He must have been studying them on the trip over. I wanted to do more for my pack, my sister, and Adealine. I would do what was required of me. If that I needed to behave, so be it. The carriage stopped and my sister turned to look at me.
“We’ve arrived,” Mave said.
“I hadn’t noticed,” I teased.
She said nothing to that, but I smiled at the way she glared at me. Mave was here as my Beta, but I knew what the other Alpha’s would see her as. They would see her as my date, the person standing in for my lack of a Luna. That’s why I made sure she dressed the part. I looked forward to seeing their reaction at the meeting and I dared anyone to say anything about it.
It wasn’t normal and it was unheard of. I didn’t know how it would look, but she looked amazing. Her hair had been tied back in a low pony tail, a white neck stock, a dark red waistcoat, and the smallest black linen shirt I’ve ever seen. She had white silk knee breeches that connected to stockings and black leather shoes to match her shirt. She was dressed like a man and sat like one too. It wasn’t the outfit that made the man, but the way my sister sat comfortably it looked as if she’d always been my Beta.
The sound of footsteps, some hurried, sounded outside. I heard my Gamma ask for their forgiveness while the warriors searched the grounds. When the handle on my door turned, I stood to my feet in time for Trent to open it. I looked at my sister and she gave me a don’t-you-dare look. I dipped my chin, turned from her, and walked out. When I stood in front of three men, the Beta bowed his head respectfully. The sound of a smack reached my ears and I had no doubt that Mave had slapped Trent’s offering to help her down. She strode to my side and I watched as the Beta and the Gamma’s eyes widened. The Alpha, if he noticed, didn’t show any shock. He was older and gave her a nod. The other two fixed their faces and gave her a slight nod.
“Greetings, Alpha of the Dark Moon pack. We welcome you to the North Star pack. I am Beta Lockhart and this is Alpha Rich,” Beta Lockhart said.
“Greetings Alpha Rich, Beta Lockhart. This is Alpha Shane of the Dark Moon pack and I am his Beta, Mave,” she said.
“It’s lovely to meet you,” Beta Lockhart said.
“It’s a pleasure to be here,” Mave said.
“Please follow our Delta, Delta Welch inside. He will escort you into the packhouse and down to the war room,” Beta Lockhart said.
“My Warriors will stay outside and I will only take my Beta and my Gamma,” I said.
The three of us followed the Delta inside and when the large doors opened the room went silent. I showed no emotion on my face as we walked in.Mave announced my arrival and Trent bowed.
I spotted two remaining spots open. One right when you entered and one on the opposite side. I made my way towards the open seats. I sat down and stared at the door while the other two took their places by my side. I didn’t care who was here and I didn’t care about their opinions.
The conversations picked back up, but I kept my gaze on the doors. I also didn’t care to get to know anyone. I don’t know how much time passed before the warriors stationed at the doors, turned and pulled them open. Everything stood still as a Goddess appeared.
