Boyfriend
Adea
The rooster crowing announced the start of a new day. My eyes flew open and the bed dipped as Ethan got up. I got a look at his backside and my mouth went dry. I stayed still in hopes that he would leave me alone. As his footsteps retreated I let out a quiet sigh of relief. There was a knock at the door and I watched in horror as he walked butt naked to open it. I pulled the sheets up to my chin to cover my body as two servants walked in with platters in hand.
One warriors stood by the door and told them to get to it. The maids bowed to Ethan and when they looked up their eyes widened at seeing his nakedness. The room was a mess and I don’t think anyone should be walking through it, but what I thought didn’t matter here. It never did. The servants bowed their heads and kept their eyes on the floor as they walked through the carnage that was my room.
I balled my hand into a fist as I watched them tiptoe and step over debris left over from Ethan’s show of force last night. I blocked the images that threatened to run across my mind and the emotions that began to rise. They placed the platters down on the table and Ethan dismissed them with a flick of his wrist. They turned and ran hastily from the room.
When the warrior pulled the door closed behind them Ethan walked toward the table. He lifted the lids off of the platters and took a seat in one of the chairs. He looked out at the window as the sun started to peak over the horizon. Yellow, orange, and red began to paint the sky and chase away the darkness. For the first time in my entire life I wanted to run and jump out of the window.
How can the world still be beautiful when the darkest of things were happening under its bright sky?
“Why don’t you stop pretending to sleep? I felt your body jerk when the rooster crowed,” Ethan said.
My captor didn’t look at me as he spoke, more interested in the food in front of him. He picked a single purple grape from the vine and popped it into his mouth. His masculine bicep flexed as he picked another from the vine and put it to his mouth. Ethan’s eyes darted to where I lay and met mine.
“I don’t want to talk to you,” I said.
“I thought we already went over the fact that I don’t care about what you want, Adealine,” Ethan sighed.
“Am I supposed to care about your thoughts?” I asked.
“Watch your tone with me, Princess. I won’t tolerate disrespect. Breakfast has arrived. Get up out of bed unless you want me to think you’d like me between your legs again.”
My stomach churned at his words. I hated him. Goddess I hated him so much. I wanted more than to disrespect him. I wanted to tell him to shove the breakfast up his ass, but I knew he wouldn’t just sit there while I ran my mouth.
I pulled myself up and eyed my clothes that stared at me from across the room. If I wanted to get dress I would have to walk across the room to them. If I clung to the sheet and took it with me I had a suspicion that he would rip it from me. No, I would rather walk across the room with my head held high.
I threw my legs over the side of the bed. The sheet fell to my waist and I fought the automatic response to pull it up over myself. Ethan turned to look at me as I stood to my feet. I ignored his slimy gaze and held my head high as cut the distance that kept me from my clothes.
I was surprised that I made it to the other side without stepping on shattered glass or splintered wood. I chose a modest nightgown before I picked my brush off of the floor. I ran in through a few times to get rid of the knots in my hair.
I was glad for the broken vanity mirror. I don’t think I could have held it together if I had to see my reflection. I made my way to the other seat at the table. I took a seat and stared out the window. Ethan pushed a platter toward me and poured me a cup of tea.
“What are our plans for the day?” I asked.
Because now that everyone knew me as his I couldn’t do anything without his approval. Now that he had bedded me I was more his than I had been before. Ethan considered me as he picked up a slice of thick toast.
“We depart from here at noon,” Ethan said.“So soon?” I asked.
“Why would I stay?” Ethan asked.
There was anger in his voice and I hated the way my throat went dry. I didn’t want to anger him like yesterday. I didn’t want to push him just yet. Not when I was in a nightgown and not when there was still a few hours left until our departure.
“It’s so sudden. l was only wondering,” I asked.
I picked up the cup of tea and sipped it. I It was warm and calmed me. I had no business being calm in front of the predator that sat across from me, but I would take what small kindness the Goddess would grant me. Ethan grabbed a knife and spread jam across the bread. I felt his eyes on me as a crunch filled the silence as he bit into it. I swallowed under his scrutiny and took another sip of the tea.
“Do you think I would actually stay here and wait for your little boyfriend to climb up here and slit my throat?” Ethan asked.
