Adea
Gabriel stared back at me with kind eyes and a crooked smile. I couldn’t believe that happened to him. I hadn’t seen him once the night of the celebration. It all made sense and I can’t help but wonder who he faced off against. My room served as a box than I had been imprisoned in, but he was actually locked in a physical box.
“You’re a better friend that I’ve been. I don’t deserve you. I’m sorry for what happened to you. I’m glad you were found. Are you okay?” I asked.
“I’m f—”
“I’m grateful they found you too,” Odis murmured.
Somehow the two of us forgot about the Betas presence. We turned and looked at him, but he stared at Gabriel and only him. It made me want to smile. I knew that look, that was love. Beta Odis was madly in love with Gabriel and I wanted to squeal for him. I look back and forth between the lovebirds.
“Time is almost up and you are supposed to be fitting her,” Odis said.
“I took her measurements a month ago, but I’ll be measuring her again and making adjustments to the dresses I’ve prepared for her. I already know she’s matching with your Alpha for the meeting tomorrow. Is that good enough for you?” Gabriel asked.
“… Yes,” Odis answered.
“You said you were going to work on not being so uptight,” Gabriel sighed.
“I forgot,” Odis said. Gabriel glared at him and Odis smiled at him.
“Mm,” Gabriel hummed.
“Odis is on our side? Was he the person who was helping you?” I asked.
“No—” Gabriel started.
“No, Luna. I am on no one’s side. I’m not part of whatever the two of you had planned before you came here and I will not help you if you plan to escape. I would advise against trying,” Odis said.
“But you brought me here,” I started.
“For your fitting. I will say this again. I will not help you escape and neither will Gabriel. I am the Beta of this pack and I’m loyal to my Alpha,” Odis said.
“You will not speak for me,” Gabriel said haughtily. “Ignore him. He’s a solider with a point to prove. You’ve said your piece, Beta.”
Gabriel reached down and wiped the tears from my cheeks. My eyes lowered to snot covered shirt. My cheeks warm and I shake my head. Odis took a step closer and I looked up to find him staring at Gabriel.
“You forget yourself,” Odis warned. “No one is to touch the Luna, but even more so in this pack. Alpha has ordered that no one but myself and him shall lay a hand on her. I can look away here, but out there, no one else will.”
“Thank you, merciful Beta, for your kindness,” Gabriel spit out.
My eyes widened at the venom in his voice. Odis clenched his jaw and uncertainty flashed in his eyes. He wasn’t angry, he didn’t lash out at Gabriel, he was hurt. Gabriel turned from Odis, ignored him, and looked at me.
“We’re friends,” Gabriel said as he grabbed my hands.
“We are. What are the two of you?” I asked.
“Who us?” Gabriel asked without looking back at Odis.
His voice was cold, but his eyes said something completely different as they lit up. He licked his lips, folded his arms and pretended to mull it over. Odis growled and closed the distance between the two of them.
“What are we?” Odis asked seductively.
“Companions?” Gabriel teased. He looked at Odis over his shoulder. Odis was not please. He leaned in as his hand flew out and he wrapped his arm around Gabriel’s waist. I watched as Odis lowered his head and pressed his nose to Gabriel’s neck.
“If companions sword fight,” Odis teased.
If I had been drinking I would have choked. I covered my mouth to stop from laughing. These two were fun and I couldn’t wait to see what Gabriel’s response would be. The innuendo was clear and I speechless. For a second, my friend didn’t blink. Gabriel threw his head back and a hearty laugh fell from his lips.
“What are we Gabby?” Odis asked a second time.
“Hmm.”
Gabriel pretended to consider their relationship seriously. Odis’ hand dipped lower and I looked away.
“Think harder,” Odis teased.
“We’re lovers sometimes,” Gabriel answered.
“Sometimes?” Odis growled.
“Why only sometimes?” I laughed.
“Because sometimes he’s an ass,” Gabriel laughed.
I broke out in laughter as Gabriel wagged his eyebrows at me. I’d laughed twice today. Something I didn’t think was possible here. Gabriel was a gift in the darkest of places in the darkest of hours.
