Time?

My tears blurred my vision and I lowered my head to hide from his all-seeing gaze. Never had I thought of seeking out my mate, so of course I didn’t put any thought into my mate’s wolf, but if I’m being honest with myself, I gained 2 of them tonight. One that would throw me away when he was bored of playing with me and the other that wanted me.
A mate was two souls given to you by the Moon Goddess. So was it her hand in this that made me feel for him? Was it the strings that she held me by that would bind my soul to theirs for the rest of my life? I wasn’t even close to knowing who Shane was but after a few hours with him, I worried for my heart when I thought of a lifetime of this.
I shook my head as a stray tear escaped and rolled down my cheek. I batted it away before he could see it but I’m sure he did. A rough finger tipped my chin up and lifted my gaze to his.
“Will you reject me?” Maximus repeated. His voice came out gruff but I could hear the sadness that crept at the edge of his words, the fear reflected in his eyes, and the tremor in the hand that gripped the curve of my hip. “Before you answer that… can you give us some time?” He asked.
“Time? For what?” I asked hesitantly.
“We only get one mate, one chance. The Goddess doesn’t bless everyone. So consider us, think your decision through before you make it. I only see you, there’s no one else I want,” Maximus said firmly. I shook my head. “Try to see past his anger, he’s a tortured soul but I promise I balance him out. Can’t you wait for us? I… I only just got to touch you, feel you, see you in the flesh. Can you just give us… time?” he pleaded.
The hope in his gaze and the sincerity in his voice reached me. I hadn’t thought of rejecting them both but the thought of doing it clawed at my heart. Time would only make it harder but for the half of my mate that I liked, I could give it.
“Okay,” I whispered.
I didn’t think yellow guys could light up more than they did as he heard that one word. A smile pulled at his lips and he lowered his head, smashing his lips to my own. His kiss was hungry and searching as I opened for him. His eyes closed as he swallowed up my mouth and I felt devoured by the wolf. I sighed as I went willingly, my walls dropping slightly for him. I pushed myself as close to him as possible, wanting, no needing the comfort he gave. Needing the reassurance that his words were true, that he did want me. His tongue swirled and danced with mine. I melted into him and he held me with strong arms. His teeth crashed against mine and my eyes flew open. I cried out as he bit down on my lip. Obsidian eyes glared down at me. Gone was the wolf and in his place was the man. My heart hurt and my stomach clenched as I fought to hide my shock.
“I’m not begging for your attention, nor do I need time. I’m here for a good time, not a long one and I don’t need to ask you for anything because you’ll willingly give it to me. Look at you, not even an hour has passed and you’re already begging for it again,” Shane growled. He lifted his nose and inhaled deeply, his eyes flaring only proving his words true. I turned my head but he gripped both sides of my mouth and lifted my face so I could continue looking at him. “If we hadn’t been interrupted by your little friend, I know you would have begged me to fill every one of your holes and you would have thanked me for it,” Shane spat. His grip was starting to hurt and I tried to get free. “As for rejecting me, that’s not an option. There’s no escaping me. You’ll see me, want me, need me, touch me for as long as I let you. I’ll take what I want, just like every other man you’ve entertained. You’ll spread those legs for me and say, ‘Yes, Alpha.’”
“That hurts,” I hissed.
“Say, ‘Yes, Alpha. I understand’,” Shane demanded. I stared defiantly up into his eyes, his grip tightened, and I flinched.
“Yes, Alpha,” I hissed angrily. His eyes flashed as he glared down at me for a second longer before he released me.
“I won’t be fooled by you, nor will I ever love you. What I feel is possessiveness because you’re mine,” he said. I couldn’t tell if he was being truthful, but there was no hesitation in his gaze. Looking away from me, he missed the tears that filled my eyes. I don’t know what I had been expecting. The harsh reality that Maximus and Shane were complete opposites came crashing back down on me. He pushed me off of him and I caught myself before I could fall flat on my ass in front of him. “See yourself out, there’s nothing else I need from you,” Shane said coldly.
“I don’t know who hurt you but I won’t stand here and let you take it out on me. Don’t come back here until you figure your shit out,” I hissed.
There was nothing about Shane that was gentle, caring, or kind. There had never been a time where I had let a customer take me and I was shaken up by the fact that he’d gone from cold to hot and back to cold. The man that was supposed to love and treasure me treated me with such disdain. I don’t know what I had been expecting. He growled as I headed for the door.
