My girl

My breathing sped up and my mouth dried up as she pressed her chest up against his. Pain stabbed my chest as she let him pull her closer. Jealousy chewed at me as she smiled at him the way she smiled at me. They danced and he was the envy of every man in attendance. Everything from his broad shoulders to her small frame as he contently held her in his arms. Someone commented on how great they looked together. I hated how perfectly they fit. I could give her what he could, I could give her what she deserved. He wasn’t the only one who could give her everything.
I was attracting too much attention and had to do something about it. I made sure no one saw me as I sneaked into one of the empty rooms. I waited for my chance, I waited for a moment where I could talk to her. I ripped a curtain off of the nearest window. I was on the verge of passing out. This was going to hurt but I held my breath and moved before I could think and stop myself. I gritted my teeth as I dabbed at the blood on my back.
After I’d cleaned myself up, I jarred open the door and peeked out. I watched as men and women danced, flirted, and walked by. When someone close to my height and size walked by, it was now or never. I pounced. I grabbed someone by the shirt and dragged him toward the room. He crawled up and got to his feet. If I didn’t get him into the room right now, someone would see us, and I would be found out.
I knocked him down with a long floral engraved brass vase by the door. He groaned and grabbed his head. I put the vase down on the floor and dragged him into the nearest room. I closed the door behind me and breathed deeply as I walked toward him. He was long and he had blue eyes. I knew he was tall and muscular. He was disoriented as he swiped and kicked at me.
I couldn’t let him get away at this point, I needed his clothes. He may be fighting hard, but I wasn’t fighting for myself. I was fighting for her. I jumped on top of him and pinned him down beneath me. He clawed at my arm as I choked him, he struggled for a long longer than he should have. Eventually his body dropped and his head lolled. Even in this situation, I admired him and his fight to live. After I took off his clothes, I undressed him and threw his clothes on.
I hissed as material stuck to my back. I looked back down at the blonde. I snatched his mask off of his face and placed it on my face. Luckily enough it fit perfectly. I grabbed him by his feet and dragged him toward a large trunk in the corner of the room. Throwing the wood lid open, I smiled when I found it empty. He would fit nicely. I lowered myself and picked him up, ignoring the pain in my back as I did so. I dropped him into the wooden box, not so nicely. He slumped against the side as I lifted the lid and closed it.
Dusting my hands, I turned from him and walked toward the door. I slowly turned the knob and opened it just enough so that I could look outside. I searched the crowd for her, she wasn’t on the dance floor anymore. I saw her disappear around a corner and watched as Ethan walked back to his seat. I pushed the door open and walked out. No one was looking at me now, other than a few women.
There were a lot of alphas in attendance today so there was nothing suspicious about my dark hair. There were a handful of masked Alphas and their heirs here today. I didn’t miss the way people stared at me. I was used to the disgust and the mistrust. What I saw today was interest and lust. They wanted me but I only wanted one person.
I made my way around the room and did my best to blend in. A red headed girl was brave and stepped in front of me. When I looked down at her her eyes twinkled. She wore a baby green bodice that matched her striking eyes. She smiled and I knew she thought she held my attention. Who was going to tell her she was far from the truth. She sauntered up to me with fuck me eyes and I almost laughed. Her eyes were on my neck, she was checking if I was available.
When she was close enough to know that I wasn’t off the market, her confidence only grew. As if me being unmarked made me hers. She reached out with white gloved hands to touch my chest but I batted her hand away. She gasped and I couldn’t fight the smile that pulled at my lip. I didn’t give her a second glance as I stepped past her. The band started playing a new song and more people poured onto the dance floor.
I pushed past dancing bodies, talking women, and men on the prowl for their next lay. I kept darting from where she disappeared and where Ethan sat. He wasn’t looking in the direction in which she went. His eyes darkened as they followed a women, no, a girl in front of him. My lip curled as Adea’s little sister walked up to him and bowed low. Her back was ramrod straight and her chest jutted out as she tipped her chin. Her dress slid higher up her thigh. I fought the urge to throw up in my mouth. Now those two were perfect for each other. Turning from the shit show I made my way towards my girl.
