Last time

Two days before the celebration, one year older, I stood at my window afraid. Afraid I’d never see Shane again. Afraid that something happened to him and that I would be forced to leave with Ethan. I waited with bated breath as the sun slowly lowered below the horizon. When the moon was high in the sky, I steeled my resolve and threw my leg over the window. Shane had climbed up and down from here time and time again. It was my turn to figure it out. I ignored the warning in my head screaming that I would plummet to my death. Slowly but surely, I somehow managed to climb down the walls. My feet touched soft grass and I let out a breath of relief when I was on solid ground. It was dark out, with nothing but the moon shining above me. I didn’t waste any time and ran through the fields. There had been times when I woke up after he’d left but not long after. I’d run to the window and watched as he walked back. I knew nothing of where he was from or where he lived but I’d watched him walk back enough times to be able to remember where he went. He always ran through the fields and on the other side he never made it to the large eating area for the servants. Meaning, he lived somewhere after the field.
There was a snapping noise and I froze in my tracks. Someone was here, someone was out here with me. My heart rate picked up and I fought the urge to start heaving. I tried to steady my breathing and lower my head. I looked around but couldn’t see a thing. I couldn’t see anyone. And with all the noise I made, they had to know that I was here. They might even know where I was or worse, who I was. Then the bushes and dried grass started to move. Goddess, they were moving but where? How close were they? I couldn’t be sure. Out of the corner of my eye, someone lunged for me and I cried out as I was tackled to the ground. I fought tooth and nail to hurt the person on top of me. I pounded my fists into their chest and tried to knee them where it hurt but they were too strong, too big.
“Damn it, it’s me,” the voice hissed. “What are you doing out here?”
“Shane?” I sobbed. “Is that you?”
“Yes, Princess. What are you doing out here?”
“I haven’t seen you. I was worried. I needed to find you. I had to make sure you were okay.”
“How did you get down?”
“The same way you do.”
He cursed. “Dammit, Adea. You can’t do that. Have you lost your mind? You could have been killed! Goddess.”
“You don’t give me enough credit,” I teased. “Where have you been?” I asked, seriously.
“My sister has been sick. I haven’t been able to. I’m sorry. I was able to get out tonight. Her condition finally stabilized.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“Happy birthday, Princess,” Shane whispered.
“Yes, well. Here I am beneath a man in the dirt. How am I going to explain the clothes?” I asked.
“I didn’t want you to scream. I was worried you were going to get us caught,” Shane murmured.
Now that my heart wasn’t beating out of my chest, my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I looked around us. I could make out Shane’s frame above me. I looked up at him, his dark curly hair hung from his face. He was gorgeous. His firm body was above mine, his hard length pressed into my belly, and my legs were on both sides of his hips. We were in a compromising position and I don’t think we’d ever been this close outside of my room. It felt good, it felt too damn good. We should have been worried about being caught. We should have been worried about someone finding us, seeing us, reporting on us.
We should have been but we weren’t. Shane’s breathing quickened and I didn’t waste time. I leaned up and kissed him. He hesitated for a second but then it was as if the restraints came off. He opened his mouth and our tongues intertwined. It had been so long.
When was the last time we kissed?
Outside of holding each other, touching each other, being with each other? It felt like it had been so long. A jolt of sparks shot right through me as our kiss deepened. My arms wrapped around his neck and I groaned as my flesh against his buzzed. My skin was on fire and I wanted more. I couldn’t get enough of him. I inhaled deeply and the smell of him washed over me. Pine and Sage. I needed more of him. I needed more of whatever he could give me. I wrapped my legs around him and he groaned.
“Have you been with anyone else?” I asked. It felt as if my heart stopped beating and my world stopped moving as I waited for his answer.
“No, I haven’t,” Shane swore. Inhaling sharply, I wiggled closer and his hands gripped my backside.
“Adea. I’m a starved man. If you don’t stop now, I won’t be able to restrain myself. I don’t have it in me to turn you away,” he warned.
“I don’t want you to stop, Shane. I don’t care what you want. I need you. Please, please make me yours.”
He froze but as my words registered he growled. His lips enveloped mine and I felt like he was swallowing me whole. Shane was taking me, claiming me, owning me. His hands slid down my chest and he yanked down the top of my dress. My breasts spilled free and he wrapped his mouth around one and sucked. He sucked and licked and played with my breasts until I was a panting mess. I gripped his hair and pulled him closer while I ground my hips against him. I needed something to fill the need.
“Shane,” I whined.
“I need to get you ready or else it’ll hurt,” Shane murmured as he continued to lick and nip at me. His fingers slid up my thigh and I widened my legs for him. “You’re so wet around my fingers. You want this, don’t you?”
“Yes, I need you, Shane,” I panted as I closed my eyes.
