Tried
Adea
Odis bowed and I followed him, fighting the burning need to run out of the room. My heartbeat thumped so hard in my chest I wouldn’t have been surprised if he could hear it. My blood pounded loudly in my ears and every breath of air was as cold as it was dry. I could barely hear the sound of my feet as it slapped against the floor. Beta Odis’ legs were long and I struggled to keep with his brisk walk. He didn’t utter a word to me as we left the dining-hall. I knew very well what was about to happen back there and I was relived beyond belief that I got away.
This was the first time I avoided him.
I felt a rush knowing he hadn’t been able to take what he wanted from me. As soon as he started he didn’t stop. In the last few days that I had spent with him I’d gotten to know him. He took what he wanted when he wanted. Adrenaline propped me forward and I wrung my hands together in the hope that moving them would stop them from shaking. The walls, the windows, and lights were a blur as I focused on my Beta’s back.
“Thank you,” I murmured.
He continued forward without stopping or looking at me. For a moment I wondered if he heard me, but with his werewolf hearing I knew he had to. I didn’t know anything about this man. In my bedchambers he came across kind and had an innocence about him. Right now, the man in front of me looked hard, ruthless, and uncaring. It didn’t matter to me if he intended to help me by interrupting or if it was to keep me on tract for this appointment.
He saved me.
Even if only for a few hours.
He saved me.
Odis came to an abrupt stop and I collided into him. I peered around him and saw that we stood in front of a door. He took a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair. The first thing that came to mind was that he seemed nervous. Whoever stood on the other side of that door made my Beta nervous.
He reached forward and pulled on a silver handle that was followed by the wooden door. He motioned me in and after I stepped through the doorway, he walked in after me. The door closed behind me and a gust of wind brushed against me as he rushed past me. Large wooden crates sat on the ground around the room.
A man stood on the other side of the room looking out of the window. The seamster didn’t turn to look at us, instead, he rested his hand against the wall and leaned against it. Odis was close to him now, but he didn’t stop, he continued forward until he was behind him. My eyes widened as Odis wrapped his arms around the mans waist. I looked away but not before I saw him pull the man flush against his chest. I was at a loss for words for a moment before I cleared my throat.
“Are we here for a fitting or…?”
“Apologies Luna, but please excuse me for just a moment,” Odis whispered.
He didn’t turn back to look at me, relief was evident in his voice. I watched them then, the two of them in their own little world, their own little space. I couldn’t help but crave for what I no longer had. Odis held the seamster close, one of his arms wrapped tightly around his waist while the other snaked up the man’s back and held a handful of hair in his hand.
Odis’ forehead was pressed against the mans as they shared a breath before Odis crashed his mouth to his and they shared a passionate kiss. The other man’s hands slid up to the Beta’s chest and wrapped around his neck. He growled and released the handful of hair and gripped the mans neck with his hand. Before it could go any further, the two of them broke apart so easily, so quickly, I wondered if it had happened.
I was left standing there with my eyes almost popping out of my head and my jaw on the ground. Odis stared down at the seamster, and even though I couldn’t see his face, I knew it had to be with love that he looked down at this man with.
Odis took a step back and moved out of the way. My eyes locked on the seamster’s face and I was flabbergasted. I didn’t know Odis that well, I probably knew him as much as I knew the man in front of me. Familiar blue eyes stared back at me, brown hair, a crooked smile and lips bruised with Odis’ kiss. He started forward but then stopped. He bowed his head low.
“I greet the oldest daughter of the Clear Mountain pack,” Gabriel said, his voice was hoarse.
“Gabriel?” I asked.
He walked toward me with open arms and I was hit with the need to reach out for him. He had been one of the few people to ever offer me their hand. He was the first people to show me authentic kindness, or so I thought. It didn’t turn out that way, he hadn’t helped me. He hadn’t even shown up, just disappeared without a trace, without a word.
I slowed my steps and came to a stop as confusion filled his eyes. I looked at Odis and back to Gabriel. Betrayal filled my chest as I tried to make sense of this situation and how his offer of helped came into play. Tears pricked my eyes as I stared at this man who said he was my friend.
Did Ethan know of my plans to escape that night?
Is that how he knew I was away from the party that night?
Is that why he sought me out?
Was that the reason behind his anger?
