Chapter 504: Alaric's Response
Back home, Alaric took off the coat draped over Stellan and exhorted in a serious tone, "It's getting cold. You can't dress so lightly anymore. Why are you comparing yourself to Gillian? What if you catch a cold? Then it would be your..."
Before Alaric could finish, Stellan stepped forward, wrapped her arms around Alaric's waist, and leaned into his embrace, leaving Alaric stunned.
"I'm sorry, Alaric," Stellan apologized earnestly. "This whole thing was my fault. I made you worry."
Alaric was surprised by Stellan's sudden apology.
"Why are you apologizing all of a sudden?" Alaric asked quickly.
"It was my fault to begin with. I should apologize. Don't worry, this won't happen again."
Alaric was still confused. Did Thomas say something to her?
"Stop spacing out. Go wash up and get some sleep. From now on, I'll make sure you don't stay up late. Early to bed, early to rise."
After a quick shower, Alaric returned to the bedroom to find Stellan making the bed. Although it had only been a few days since he left home, it felt like a long time.
"Hurry up and get to bed." Stellan instructed when she heard Alaric enter the room.
Seeing the bed reminded Alaric of the awkwardness from that night. He asked, "Did you explain what happened that night to Rowena? Is she okay?"
"What do you think?" Stellan replied. "Aren't you usually very cautious? How could you make such a mistake?"
"I was going back to my own home, to my own bed. How cautious could I be?"
If it weren't for Caspian, Harry, and Elisa's birthday, he wouldn't have planned to come back that night.
"I almost forgot, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa's birthday is coming up," Alaric said. "They called me a few days ago asking for a birthday surprise. It's their first birthday together, and I want to celebrate it properly."
"I was thinking the same thing."
Previously, Harry and Elisa's birthdays were just simple cakes. Stelllan wasn't well-off at the time and couldn't give them many gifts. Caspian's birthdays were lavish, but he wasn't happy.
So, for their first birthday together, they had to celebrate it well.
"How about we throw a birthday party? Invite Caspian, Harry, and Elisa's classmates and have a big celebration?" Alaric suggested.
"Sure, you handle it."
"Alright, leave it to me." Alaric agreed.
After saying that, he pulled Stellan into his arms. Their chemistry was such that Stellan knew what he wanted as soon as he moved.
"I told you, go to bed early tonight." Stellan reminded him.
"How long has it been since I held you while sleeping? Can't I do that?" Alaric's tone sounded a bit aggrieved. Just as she was about to speak, he kissed her, leaving her helpless.
After a long kiss, Alaric's hands moved to her back, and Stellan didn't resist. Since she couldn't refuse, she didn't struggle pointlessly.
Besides, he had a bit to drink tonight, and they hadn't seen each other for days. Maybe he wanted to take advantage of the alcohol to release some tension? Let him be.
Hearing Stellan's pained voice, Alaric immediately stopped and looked at her, asking, "What's wrong? Did I hurt you?"
"No, my stomach just suddenly hurts a bit."
"Stomachache?" Alaric didn't understand and could only guess, "Is it your period?"
"No, it's not time for that yet."
"Then what's going on? Does it hurt a lot?"
"Not a lot, just a little."
"Is it serious? Do you need medicine?"
"No, isn't a stomachache common? It'll be fine in a bit," Stellan said.
"Alright." Alaric obediently let go of her. Seeing this, Stellan asked, "What? Not going to continue?"
"How can I continue when you're not feeling well? I'm not that irrational." Saying this, Alaric reached into her pajamas and gently rubbed her stomach. "Does this feel better?"
His palm on her lower abdomen, the warmth from the friction, it did feel a lot better.
Stellan looked at Alaric, thinking about what Thomas had said to her, gaining a new understanding of him.
Now that Alaric had no parents, and neither did she, they were the closest people to each other. If she didn't trust him, who could she trust?
Stellan held his hand that was rubbing her stomach, then leaned into his embrace.
"No need to rub anymore, my stomach doesn't hurt now. Let's sleep, honey."
The past two nights without him had been torturous for Stellan. Without sleeping pills, she couldn't sleep at all.
But now, leaning into his embrace felt so reassuring, better than any sleeping pill. She was so tired and just wanted to sleep well in his arms.
Seeing her lean into his embrace and hearing her words, Alaric smiled, tightened his hold on her, and softly said, "Goodnight, honey."
That night was so warm, waking up naturally felt so good.
When Stellan woke up, Alaric was no longer in bed. As expected, he had already made breakfast.
"Back to being my dear Mr. Knight?" Stellan teased.
"You made me a love-filled breakfast yesterday morning and pardoned me to come home last night. How could I not perform well?" Alaric replied.
Stellan smiled. Speaking of yesterday's breakfast, she voiced, "Did you eat the breakfast I sent you yesterday?"
"Of course."
Stellan paused and asked, "Didn't Gillian also send you breakfast? Did you eat that too?"
"How could I?" Alaric looked at Stellan and spoke firmly, "As a married man, how could I have no boundaries with other women?"
This reassured Stellan. Taking advantage of the topic, she directly asked, "What if Gillian likes you?"
Hearing this, Alaric paused and seriously uttered, "If she only sees me as a friend, I'll be a good friend. If she crosses that line, I won't tolerate it.
To me, marriage is as sacred as the uniform I used to wear. It's inviolable. If any woman has feelings for me and makes you sad, I'll make sure she stays far away, no matter who she is."
