Chapter 623 Who Is Her Sugar Daddy?
Aurora knew she had secured the coveted spot for graduate school, and Kelly was fuming. But Aurora didn't care; she had always been low-key and not one to stir up trouble. She turned and walked out of the school.
As Aurora left, Kelly and Jade stopped in their tracks. Jade quickly said, "Kelly, did you hear her phone call just now? She was talking to some 'uncle.'"
"Yeah, I heard," Kelly replied coldly. "I always wondered how an orphan with no parents could afford to live in such a fancy apartment near the school. Turns out she has a sugar daddy."
"A sugar daddy?" Jade scoffed. "What kind of big shot would be blind enough to support her? Look at her, she looks like she came from some backwater town, with no class and average looks. Those big shots have seen all kinds of beauties. Why would they choose her?"
"You never know," Kelly sneered with hostility. "Maybe some big shot likes her style. Besides her grades, what does she have that can compare to me? A country bumpkin like her, trying to compete with me for a spot?"
"Exactly," Jade quickly comforted her. "Don't be mad, Kelly. Let her have the spot. You're so excellent, you'll get a spot next year."
"But that bumpkin sure is lucky. Last month, she happened to save an old man who had a stroke on the street. I heard he was rich, and his family sent a banner to the school and wanted to give her money."
"That's probably why she got the spot. So don't be mad, just think of it as the bumpkin getting lucky for once."
Kelly glanced at Aurora walking out of the school gate, still full of resentment, and then walked away.
Aurora had always been optimistic and didn't care about others' opinions or hostility. Her focus was on studying, attending classes, and going back to her apartment. Her life was simple and fulfilling.
As Aurora reached her apartment building, a luxury car pulled up in front of her. She tried to avoid it and continue walking, but a man got out and called her.
"Excuse me, are you Aurora?"
He knew her?
Aurora looked at the man, who seemed to be around her uncle's age, dressed in a high-end tailored suit, exuding wealth.
"Sorry, I don't know you," Aurora said cautiously, taking a step back to maintain a safe distance. "What do you want?"
"My name is Tristram Rivers, the eldest son of the Rivers family from Silverlight City."
The Rivers family from Silverlight City?
Aurora had been here for two years and knew about the local situation. The Rivers family was the wealthiest in the area.
"I'd like to take a few minutes of your time to discuss something," Tristram said politely.
Discuss something? The local tycoon wanted to talk to her?
"How do you know me?" Aurora was genuinely surprised. She was just an ordinary student. How did the eldest son of the wealthiest family know her?
"Did you save an old man who had a stroke a while ago?"
"Yes."
"He is a good friend of my father's. They talked about it recently, and he praised you highly. You not only saved his life but also refused any monetary reward."
"It was just a small act. Anyone would have done the same, especially since I'm a medical student," Aurora said.
"Even so, it was a life-saving act, and you weren't tempted by the generous reward. I admire that."
"So why are you here? To thank me for that?" Aurora asked. "He was just your father's friend. You don't need to thank me."
"I have a favor to ask," Tristram said slowly. "I have a younger brother who was injured in an explosion two years ago. His legs were severely damaged, and he's now in a wheelchair. The incident traumatized him, and he's become very irritable and distrustful."
"My brother is very guarded and angry. We've tried many doctors, but he doesn't trust them. He thinks they're out to harm him."
"I've done some research on you. You're a top student at your school, with high medical skills and a background in psychology."
"The key is that you're a student. My brother wouldn't be as guarded around you. There aren't many students like you with both medical and psychological expertise."
"My father's health is deteriorating because of my brother's condition. I'm desperate and hope you can be my brother's primary doctor."
"Whether it's for his physical recovery or psychological issues, you're the best fit. Money is not an issue. Just name your price."
Treat his brother? A person with a volatile and angry temperament?
"I'm sorry, Mr. Rivers. My studies are demanding, and I don't have time for anything else. I apologize," Aurora declined directly.
"I know it's a lot to ask, but I can't find anyone more suitable. Please consider it," Tristram handed her his business card. "This is my card. If you change your mind, please call me."
Aurora didn't want to take it, but Tristram insisted, "Please think about it. I hope you can help my brother."
After he got back in the car, Aurora looked at the card and then put it in her bag as she headed to her apartment.
Back in her apartment, she followed her usual routine of studying and video chatting with Ethan, who was like a younger brother to her. They were very close.
Aurora had a regular schedule. The next morning, she got up early, made breakfast, and went to school.
"Aurora, you got the grad school spot. Aren't you going to treat us?" As soon as she entered the classroom, several people gathered around. The girl who spoke was Mira Rosie, one of her closest friends at university.
Before Aurora could respond, Jade chimed in, "Don't pressure Aurora. She's so frugal. If she treats all of you, she'll probably starve for a week. Let her be."
Aurora was exasperated with Kelly and Jade. They always picked on her, even though she tried to avoid them.
"Sure, you guys pick the place," Aurora said to Mira and the others.
"Great, we'll choose then. This is a big deal, we should all celebrate," Mira said excitedly.
Aurora just smiled.
The professor came in, and everyone settled down for class. After the lecture, the professor called Aurora over.
Students like Aurora were the teachers' favorites, even in college.
Watching Aurora follow the professor out, Kelly muttered angrily, "I wonder how much her sugar daddy paid the teachers. They all treat her so well. Calling her out like that, I bet it's for something good."
