Chapter 619 Caspian is Back

"Can you believe it?" Josep was getting more and more worked up. "I helped him find a job out of the goodness of my heart. When I met him, I thought he was a great kid. Poor thing, no parents to care for him, all alone in a strange place. I figured I'd look out for him as much as I could."

"Then Mr. Knight fired him, and I was furious. I kept thinking, how could such a good kid get fired? And why would he be interested in Galatea? It just didn't make sense. Was Alaric not taking me seriously?"

"And then, to top it all off, they mistook me for Tiger! Can you believe that?"

"I was held captive by that Joe for almost three days. I was hoping they'd call the cops to rescue me, but instead, they treated me like a suspect. They almost put out a city-wide manhunt for me."

"Can you believe that? Now that I think about it, I can forgive them. Coming back to Arizona City for New Year's, I... I shouldn't have come back!"

"Calm down, calm down!" Thomas quickly tried to soothe Josep, seeing how upset he was getting. "It's not worth getting worked up over a few bad kids."

Josep took a deep breath to calm himself and continued, "When Tommy came to my house, he knelt there the whole time, admitting his mistakes. It's been so long, and he did serve three years in prison. I couldn't stay mad. He was sincere, saying I had no children and he wanted to treat me like his own father, take care of me in my old age. He even said if they had a child, they'd give it my last name, make me a grandparent. Honestly, that did touch my heart a bit."

Josep had dedicated his life to medicine and never married, leaving him without children. When he was younger, it didn't bother him much, but now, seeing his peers with grandchildren, he felt a pang of envy.

"They said they'd give the child the last name Watkins?" Thomas suddenly felt a twinge of jealousy. "Then they need to have two kids. One with the last name Watkins and one with the last name Emberlyn. Three kids would be too much for my daughter."

"Exactly, one Watkins and one Emberlyn. No way are we letting them continue the Reaves family line!"

"Right, that's settled!"

On this matter, the two men were in complete agreement. Thomas then asked Josep, "Josep, does this make us in-laws?"

"I guess so. Tommy's calling me Dad now."

"That's right." Thomas continued, "Are you going back to Country M, Or are you thinking of settling in Arizona City? I don't want to move."

"But my daughter is going to be a professor at Arizona University after she graduates. She's settling here, so for the sake of seeing my grandkids, I guess I'll reluctantly move to Arizona City."

"I've already joined our branch here in Arizona City. I can spend more time here, and I'm getting older. In a few years, I'll retire. I'm alone, no ties, so it doesn't matter where I settle."

"Then it's settled. You can watch your grandkids, and I'll watch mine. We can even go fishing together."

Both Thomas and Josep were alone and shared a love for fishing.

"Alright, it's a deal!"

The two men felt like they had met too late in life, sharing many common interests and hobbies.

They fished until around four in the afternoon when Tommy drove over to pick them up. Seeing his car approach, Thomas said, "Here comes Tommy."

"Yep."

Tommy parked the car, got out, and quickly started packing up their fishing gear.

"Mr. Emberlyn, Josep, dinner's almost ready. Once you two are set, we'll start cooking," Tommy said respectfully.

"Look at that, he says he wants to call me Dad, but he still hasn't changed how he addresses me. No sincerity at all," Josep remarked immediately.

"Exactly. You've already married Gillian. She calls me Dad, and you call me Mr. Emberlyn?" Thomas added, shaking his head.

Tommy felt both honored and flustered by the rebuke. He quickly corrected himself.

"Dad," he said to Thomas first, then turned to Josep, "Dad."

"Alright, I'll accept that," Thomas said reluctantly, then got into the car.

After the two elders got in, Tommy started the car.

"It's New Year's today. Alaric's family must be quite large, right?" Thomas asked.

"Alaric's family has six people, Cormac's family has three, plus Gillian and me, and you two," Tommy replied.

"It's a gathering for the young folks. We won't intrude," Thomas said. "The two of us can just find a hotel and have a drink."

"Dinner is ready. Aren't you coming?"

"No, it's all young people. We'd just cramp your style. Besides, there's a generation gap. We wouldn't have much to talk about," Josep said.

"Alright, I'll book a hotel for you."

"Sounds good," Thomas and Josep agreed.

Tommy booked a hotel for the two elders, dropped them off, and then drove to Alaric's house.

"Tommy, why are you back alone? Where are the people you were supposed to pick up?" Gillian asked when she saw him return alone.

"The elders said they didn't want to intrude on a young people's gathering, so I took them to a hotel."

"That's great!" Gillian was delighted. "With the two old bosses gone, we can have more fun!"

Tommy just smiled.

"Alright, Gillian, you chat with Stellan and Ravenna. I'll help in the kitchen."

Tommy went into the kitchen. The New Year's Eve dinner was being prepared by the three men, but Alaric seemed distracted, constantly checking the time.

"When is Caspian arriving? Why isn't he back yet?" Cormac understood why Alaric was checking the time.

"He said the military had a vehicle coming this way and would drop him off. Everyone's rushing home for New Year's, so there might be traffic."

"Let's wait a bit longer. Caspian will come back."

Alaric was anxious, and so was Stellan, who kept looking out the door.

"Richard, Ravenna, come on, eat some melon!" Gillian suddenly exclaimed, holding her phone and running over to Stellan and Ravenna.

"Ravenna, isn't this Richard your ex-boyfriend?" Gillian said excitedly. "He got caught! He was exposed for meeting several women at night and got arrested. He's spending New Year's in jail."

Richard got arrested?

Ravenna quickly took the phone to check. It was true.

"Ravenna, what were you thinking back then? Didn't you start liking Cormac after that? How did you end up with such trash? He's way worse than Cormac."

Rowena cringed at the memory and said self-deprecatingly, "I must have been blind. If I hadn't loved a jerk, how would I know how good I have it now?"

"True! Luckily, I didn't have to go through that. I always knew my Tommy was the best."

Stellan and Rowena were used to Gillian's constant praise of Tommy and didn't bother to respond.

Just then, Harry, who had been waiting outside, burst in excitedly, shouting, "Daddy, Mommy, Caspian's back!"
