Chapter 581 I Have Given You Enough Time
Tommy said, "I really sorry, Mrs. Knight. Gillian's asleep; this is the only time I could come out. I apologize for disturbing your rest."
Even though Tommy knocked and spoke softly, Alaric, who was sleeping in the next room, still woke up and listened to their conversation.
"No bother at all. I wasn't resting anyway," Stellan quickly replied. "Is something wrong with Gillian?"
"No, it's just that I need to ask you for a favor," Tommy said earnestly. "Mrs. Knight, I know you're pregnant and in the later stages, which is already very tough. I really hesitate to bother you, but..."
"Don't worry about it. Just tell me what you need, Mr. Reaves," Stellan said.
"Gillian's bandages are off now, and she'll need a skin graft surgery in a few days. She's getting a lot of injections and wound treatments every day. Could you personally check her medications to ensure they're correct and then hand them directly to me?"
Alaric was indeed surprised to hear this. Tommy was being so cautious because he was afraid that someone was still trying to kill Gillian. What had Gillian discovered? She hadn't revealed a word to him, yet the murderer still remained uneasy.
"Of course, that's no problem," Stellan said. "I'll personally check each of her medications and hand them to you myself."
"Thank you so much, Mrs. Knight," Tommy said gratefully before walking away.
"Alaric, you're awake?" Stellan asked when she saw Alaric coming out of the bedroom after Tommy left.
"Yeah." Alaric replied.
"Mr. Reaves is really attentive. Ever since Gillian got burned, he has been here by her side. It's rare to find a boyfriend like that."
Realizing what she had said, Stellan quickly added, "Of course, you're even more attentive. When I had my car accident, you were always at the hospital taking care of me."
Alaric smiled and said helplessly, "I'm not so petty that I can't allow you to praise another man."
"I know you're the best."
"You're due for your seven-month checkup soon. Make sure you get plenty of rest."
"I know, don't worry," Stellan replied.
After that, just as Tommy had asked, Stellan personally checked all of Gillian's medications and handed them directly to Tommy.
A few days later, Gillian had her skin graft surgery. When the bandages were slowly removed from her face, both Tommy and Gillian were very nervous.
Once the bandages were off, Gillian quickly asked, "How does it look? Are there any scars? Is my face ruined? Give me a mirror!"
Tommy handed her a mirror, and the reason he dared to give it to her was that the skin graft surgery had been very successful this time.
"Does it look the same as before?" Tommy said happily. "No, you look even more beautiful than before."
"Wow, modern medicine is amazing. You can't even tell," Gillian said, looking at herself in the mirror. "My face looks thinner than before."
Although the scars on her body couldn't be completely healed, the fact that her face wasn't disfigured was a huge relief. This was the first time Gillian had smiled since her burns.
Seeing her smile, Tommy smiled too, but tears welled up in his eyes.
"Tommy, why did the house catch fire?" Gillian asked. Since her burns, she had been in so much pain that she hadn't had time to think about anything else.
"And when I realized there was a fire and tried to open the door to escape, the bedroom door wouldn't open. I was so scared. I thought I was going to die."
Recalling the incident, Gillian was filled with fear. The feeling of being trapped, watching the fire approach, and being unable to escape was truly terrifying.
Hearing this, Tommy didn't know how to respond. If he told her someone had tried to kill her, how would she react?
"Electrical equipment overload," Alaric said as he walked in. He didn't want to tell her the truth either; since she was in a better mood, he didn't want to see her emotions collapse immediately.
Gillian was surprised by this explanation, saying, "We didn't have that many electrical devices. And why wouldn't the bedroom door open?"
"Just bad luck, I guess. The door must have malfunctioned," Alaric said.
Gillian was unlucky. She could have lived a peaceful life, but she got involved with Tommy and fell deeply in love.
"Are you feeling better now?" Alaric quickly changed the subject.
"Not completely, but better than when I was first burned," Gillian said. "Seeing that my face isn't ruined is a huge relief. I thought my body was ruined and my face would be too."
Alaric and Tommy remained silent.
Gillian continued, "Thanks to Tommy."
Gillian's words seemed to show her affection for Tommy. But without him, she wouldn't have gone through this ordeal.
"When I was knocked down by the fire, lying on the ground waiting to die, I felt so hopeless. But when Tommy kicked the door in, I felt saved. And he's been taking care of me all these days in the hospital."
After Gillian finished speaking, Alaric looked at Tommy, who lowered his head and clenched his fists.
"Alright, it's time to apply your medication. Lie down," Tommy said, helping her lie down and lifting the blanket to apply the medicine. Alaric quickly stepped out of the room.
"Gillian, get some sleep," Tommy said softly. "I'll apply the medicine slowly and wake you up when it's time to eat."
Since she had many areas that needed treatment, and Tommy was very careful, it was a slow process.
"Tommy, you've worked so hard during this time. Don't worry, I'll do my best to get better."
Hearing this, Tommy's tears finally fell.
"Gillian, has anyone ever told you that you're really silly? Why are you so silly?"
Tommy quickly wiped his tears and said, "Get some rest. Your condition has just started to improve. Don't talk too much. Rest."
Gillian said obediently, "Okay."
After the surgery was successful, Gillian was truly relieved to see that her face wasn't disfigured, so she couldn't help but say a little more.
Soon, Gillian fell asleep. Tommy carefully applied the medication and gently covered her with the blanket.
At that moment, the door opened, and Alaric walked in. He had been waiting outside the whole time.
"Is she asleep?" Alaric asked.
"Yes," Tommy replied, not stopping his careful work. He used a warm towel to gently wipe her face and a cotton swab to moisten her lips.
"Tommy, I've given you enough time," Alaric said. "It's time to tell me what you've been hiding."
