Chapter 578 Tommy, I'm in Pain
Alaric had been searching for Tommy too, and when he turned the corner, he finally spotted him. Josep was holding him up, and Tommy looked even worse than before.
"Tommy, what happened? You look awful," Josep asked, clearly alarmed by Tommy's condition.
Suddenly, Tommy felt a sharp pain in his chest. He started coughing violently, struggling until he finally spat out a mouthful of blood.
Seeing the blood, both Josep and Alaric were stunned. "Are you okay?" Alaric asked urgently.
Tommy just hung his head, not saying a word. He pushed Alaric away and stumbled towards the ICU.
Alaric wanted to ask more, but seeing Tommy's state, he knew it was pointless. He decided to let Tommy be for now.
"Josep, what brings you here?" Alaric asked.
"I was heading home from the hospital when I heard there was a fire in the neighborhood. When I found out it was Tommy's house and that Gillian was burned and brought to the hospital, I came right over. How is she?" Josep asked anxiously.
"Not great," Alaric replied honestly. "But I've got the best specialists working on her, doing everything they can to help her recover."
Josep sighed deeply. "Gillian is so young. How could something like this happen to her?"
Alaric had no words. It wasn't just a random accident; it was a man-made disaster.
"Josep, Gillian's condition is serious, but she's out of immediate danger. She's in the ICU, and we're taking good care of her. You should go home and rest," Alaric suggested.
"It's fine. I'd be alone at home anyway. I'll stay here and see if I can help with anything," Josep insisted.
"That's very kind of you," Alaric said. "I'll take you to the waiting room."
Josep replied, "Alright."
Alaric led Josep to the waiting room. Meanwhile, Tommy stayed outside the ICU, head down, not speaking, eating, or drinking.
"It's been like this for a whole day and night," Stellan said, worried about Tommy. "Gillian hasn't woken up yet, and if Mr. Reaves keeps this up, he'll collapse too."
Stellan wanted to persuade Tommy to rest, but he had been sitting there silently for a day and a night, ignoring everyone.
Alaric watched him, knowing that such intense pain and despair couldn't be faked. It confirmed that Tommy truly loved Gillian.
But what did Tommy know?
"Galatea, you should rest. The doctors and nurses are taking care of Gillian," Alaric told Stellan.
"With Mr. Emberlyn not here and Mr. Reaves completely broken down, we need to take good care of Gillian. Don't worry about me," Stellan replied. "Alaric, we should stay at the hospital for now."
Alaric had already planned to do that. No matter the cost, he was determined to help Gillian recover.
He felt guilty. He should have noticed something was wrong when he had tea with Gillian that day. He shouldn't have let her go back to Tommy's place.
Now, it was too late. Gillian had already suffered.
The fire investigation revealed that it started because food was left cooking unattended. The culprit was meticulous. Gillian was learning to cook, and as a novice, it was plausible that she forgot about the food and went to her room, causing the fire.
Knowing the cause, Alaric looked at Tommy. It had been three days, and Tommy hadn't eaten or slept, just sitting outside the ICU.
Alaric didn't need to investigate further. He knew Tommy must know who the culprit was. Since Tommy was so sad and upset, he would not let the murderer go.
Just then, the ICU door opened, and a doctor came out. Alaric rushed over, and Tommy slowly stood up.
"The patient can be moved to a regular room."
Gillian could leave the ICU?
Hearing this, Tommy finally relaxed a bit. It had been three days since he last saw Gillian.
Gillian looked the same as when she came out of the emergency room, her face and body covered in bandages, still unconscious.
Stellan arranged for her to be moved to a fully equipped VIP room. Alaric, Stellan, and Tommy followed her in.
"Mr. Reaves, I spoke to the doctor. Gillian's condition is stable, and she should wake up soon. You haven't rested in three days. If you collapse, Gillian will be even more worried when she wakes up. I'll have food brought to you. There's a bed, kitchen, and office area here. Rest when you need to, and call us if you need anything."
Tommy was determined to stay with Gillian, so Stellan spoke to him.
"Okay," Tommy finally replied, his voice hoarse.
Alaric put his arm around Stellan, giving her a look. She nodded, and they left the room, closing the door behind them.
After leaving the hospital room, Stellan couldn't help but glance back once more before turning her gaze away and walking away with Alaric.
"Because of Gillian's condition, she's in a lot of pain. We've given her painkillers and a pain pump, but it can't be used for too long. When it wears off..."
Alaric couldn't bear to think about it. Without pain relief, how would Gillian cope when she woke up?
They were all worried but had to face it.
Gillian had been unconscious for so long, and now she was waking up in pain.
"Gillian? Gillian?"
Seeing her stir, Tommy called her name softly.
Gillian slowly opened her eyes, filled with tears. Her throat was burned, and she could barely speak, her voice raspy. "It hurts."
She trembled in pain, tears streaming down her face. Seeing her like this, Tommy couldn't help but cry too.
"I know it hurts. Please hold on, Gillian. I'm here, I'm here..."
Tommy wanted to touch her, but she was covered in bandages, and he didn't dare.
Hearing Tommy, Gillian shook her head. She couldn't bear it.
"It hurts so much... I don't want to live... It hurts."
Gillian cried harder, her body convulsing in pain. Tommy was desperate, the doctor had said they couldn't use more painkillers.
What could he do?
"Tommy... it hurts."
"I know, I know." Tommy couldn't take it anymore and called for the doctor. "Doctor, she's in unbearable pain. Please, give her another painkiller. I'm begging you."
Even if it was bad for her body, it was better than her dying from the pain.
