Chapter 640 I Hope You Can Help Me
Ryder couldn't stand his older brother, Tristram. Just the sight of him made Ryder's blood boil, and yet Tristram kept showing up, which drove Ryder nuts.
"Ryder, I'm really sorry about what happened with Grace, but it's not what you think," Tristram tried to explain. "You were studying abroad, and you two were in a long-distance relationship."
"Grace was struggling with her art school startup and lost a lot of money. You were probably busy with your studies and missed her calls. She couldn't handle the long-distance relationship anymore and was torn about how to break up with you."
"She didn't want to break up over the phone, fearing it would upset you while you were alone abroad. She planned to tell you in person when you returned, but then the explosion happened. Grace never cheated on you during your relationship, and I certainly wouldn't have..."
"Enough!" Ryder snapped, his emotions all over the place.
After the explosion, he had been in a coma for a long time. When he woke up, he found out they had already gotten married. And now Tristram was telling him this wasn't cheating?
"Tristram, I don't want to see you. I don't want to hear about your mess. Get out! Don't ever come here again! Get out!"
"Alright, Ryder, calm down. I'm leaving now." Before leaving, Tristram instructed Eva, "Eva, please take good care of Ryder. Call me immediately if anything happens."
"Understood, Mr. Tristram Rivers," Eva replied, watching Tristram leave.
Aurora had given Ryder a shot earlier, which had calmed him down a bit. But Tristram's visit and his talk about Grace had upset him again.
"Mr. Ryder Rivers, you should get some rest," Eva said, hoping to leave quickly.
"Wait!"
Eva froze, a bit scared. "Mr. Ryder Rivers, is there anything else you need?"
Whenever Ryder had a manic episode, Eva would stay far away, letting him vent his pain alone. No one had ever tried to stop him.
Thinking about how Aurora had held him earlier, he realized he could have hurt her. What if it happened again?
"Get a rope and tie me up," Ryder said. "From now on, tie me up before I have an episode."
"What?"
"Didn't you hear me? Go!"
"Okay, I'll get it right away." For Eva, this was a good thing. If he were tied up, he would be the one suffering, and she wouldn't have to clean up after him.
Ryder still felt uneasy, afraid he might have another episode. He took some medication and had Eva tie him up.
That night felt endless for both Ryder and Aurora. Ryder lay in bed, tied up, trying to control himself, fearing another episode. Aurora lay on her damp bed, unable to sleep.
She had hoped the principal could help her out of her predicament, but things had only gotten worse. What was she going to do?
If things didn't change, she would either become depressed or drop out. She couldn't let that happen. She had worked so hard to get into her dream college. She couldn't give up now.She had to figure out a way to turn things around. If they messed with her again tomorrow, she'd call the cops. Luckily, summer break was just around the corner. She could lay low at the Rivers Villa during the break.
If calling the police didn't work, she'd have to tell her uncle. If she ended up depressed or dropping out, he'd find out anyway.
If her uncle found out, he'd be even more worried and pissed. She couldn't let that happen.
The next day, she went to school with a hat pulled low over her face. Kelly had guessed she'd get a haircut.
"Aurora, did you get a new hairstyle? Let's see what you've got!" Kelly said, yanking off her hat and laughing at her short hair.
"Aurora, which salon did you go to? This haircut is so androgynous. You look like a guy. It's so ugly!" Jade mocked.
Aurora stayed silent, letting them laugh.
"Come on, take a picture of her. This haircut is so unique. None of the boys have hair this short. Our little miss perfect got such a ridiculous haircut!" Kelly continued to mock, while others took out their phones to snap pictures. Aurora bit her lip, saying nothing.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable..."
After a long night, Ryder's emotions finally settled the next day. He had Eva untie him and call Aurora, but her phone was off.
He remembered she had mentioned having an exam today, so he decided not to call her again for now.
Aurora made it through the day. After her exam, she had two more days until summer break. But she knew the bullying would continue after the break, so...
After leaving school, Aurora went straight to the police station. "I want to report a crime," she said firmly.
That morning, she hadn't responded to their taunts. She had recorded everything Kelly and Jade said, and she told the police about all the bullying she had endured.
"Does this count as school bullying?" Aurora asked nervously. "They bully me every day, isolating me and making it impossible for me to study."
"Besides the time she cut you with a scalpel and the verbal abuse, have they physically assaulted you?" the officer asked.
"Assaulted?" Aurora shook her head. "I don't think so. But does it not count as bullying if they haven't hit me? They bully me every day!"
"We understand. We need to investigate and gather evidence. If we find they have committed a crime, we will take action," the officer explained.
Investigate and gather evidence? Wasn't that what the principal had tried? What good would it do?
Her previous injuries were minor and had healed. There was no evidence left. Was there no hope?
"Officer, I've tried everything. I wouldn't come to the police if I had any other choice. Please help me. I'm studying far from home, and my family is miles away."
Aurora felt so helpless. She was terrified of her school. If this continued, she would become depressed.
