Chapter 627 Why Is His Face Like This?

Aurora was so persistent that the landlord had no choice but to hand over the keys.

"Alright, if you think you can handle it, go ahead. But don't say I didn't warn you."

Aurora took the keys and found the place. It was a basement apartment, and as soon as she opened the door, a terrible smell hit her.

She covered her nose, trying to get used to the stench, and walked in. She heard some rustling noises and then...

She saw a rat and jumped in fright, immediately calling the landlord to come and deal with it.

The landlord grumbled as he took care of the problem. Once the rat was gone, Aurora looked around the room. It was in worse condition than her previous shabby place.

Despite the poor conditions, the rent was very cheap, which would save her a lot of money. Just as she was about to start cleaning, her phone rang.

Seeing it was Cormac calling, Aurora felt a pang of guilt.

"Hey, Uncle Cormac."

"What's up with your voice? You sound hoarse."

Aurora had been crying a lot lately, and her voice was still hoarse.

"Just a bit of a cold."

"Have you taken any medicine?" Cormac asked urgently, then continued to fuss over her. "You need to take medicine right away. You're all alone out there, and we can't take care of you. You have to look after yourself. The temperature difference between day and night in Silverlight City is much greater than in Arizona City. Make sure to dress appropriately..."

Cormac's detailed concern made Aurora tear up again, even though she had stopped crying for a while.

Cormac was just too good to her.

"Uncle Cormac, I'm doing fine here. You don't need to worry. You need to take care of yourself, too. Only if you take care of yourself can you look after Aunt Rowena and Ethan." Aurora tried to make her voice sound natural.

"I'm a grown man; you don't need to worry about me," Cormac said. "Alright, it's getting late. Take your medicine and get some rest. You'll feel better after a good night's sleep."

"Okay, goodnight, Uncle Cormac."

After hanging up, Aurora wiped her tears and checked her bank balance on her phone.

It was a lot for her, but it was nowhere near enough to repay Cormac and atone for her father's mistakes.

She looked at her unpacked luggage and decided to start organizing her things.

Halfway through, a business card fell out of her bag. It was from Tristram, the richest man in Silverlight City.

Tristram? The Rivers family?

He wanted her to be his brother's primary doctor? With unlimited pay?

Aurora stared at the card for a long time before calling the number the next day.

"Ms. Ryan, you finally called. I've been waiting for your call," Tristram said, sounding very pleased. "Does this mean you've agreed to be my brother's primary doctor?""Mr. Rivers, you mentioned that if I agreed to be your brother's primary doctor, the pay would be unlimited?"

"Absolutely."

"Could you advance me $200,000?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and Aurora quickly added, "Or $100,000. Don't worry, since I've agreed, I'll do my best as his doctor. I just urgently need the money."

"I can advance you $300,000."

"No, no, that's too much." If it was too much, Cormac would get suspicious. "Just $200,000 will be fine. Thank you."

"Alright, send me your account details, and I'll transfer it right away," Tristram said. "Where are you? I'll send a car to pick you up."

Aurora gave him her location and waited by the roadside. The car arrived shortly after.

She was nervous as she got in. Tristram had mentioned that his brother had a bad temper and was very difficult to deal with. She had taken the money, but what if she couldn't handle it?

"Ms. Ryan, we're here."

Her heart pounded as the car stopped. She looked out the window at the grand entrance.

As soon as she got out, Tristram approached her. "Ms. Ryan, welcome."

Aurora nodded politely. "Mr. Rivers, where is your brother?"

"This is his villa," Tristram explained. "Since his accident, his temper has been terrible. He's driven away all the maids. Besides him, only one servant who has known him since childhood lives here."

Only two people lived in this huge place?

Hearing this made Aurora even more anxious. She was a gentle person; could she handle someone with such a bad temper?

But she had already taken the money, so there was no turning back. She was just there to be a doctor; it shouldn't be that hard.

Aurora followed Tristram inside. The villa was enormous and felt very empty.

"Mr. Rivers."

An elderly woman greeted them respectfully as they entered.

"Ms. Ryan, this is Eva, my brother's servant."

"Hello, Eva."

"Hello, Dr. Ryan."

"Eva, where's Ryder?" Tristram asked.

"In the study. Mr. Ryder Rivers had another outburst earlier. The study is a mess, and he wouldn't let me clean it up, so..."

"No problem," Tristram said calmly, then turned to Aurora. "Ms. Ryan, follow me."

His brother had just had an outburst?

Aurora swallowed nervously and followed Tristram upstairs.

"I told you, no one is to disturb me while I'm reading!" a voice inside the study snapped as they approached. "Do you not understand, or are you just looking for trouble?"

"Ryder, it's me," Tristram said, entering the study with Aurora close behind.

"Ryder, I've brought a new doctor for you. She's a top graduate from medical school, very skilled despite her young age."

"Oh?"

Ryder Rivers turned his wheelchair around, and when Aurora saw his face, her heart skipped a beat.

What happened to his face?
