Chapter 631 What Else Did He Tell You?
Aurora headed to the nurse's office to get her wound bandaged, with Kelly still tagging along, pretending to be sorry.
"Kelly, do you get some kind of kick out of bullying people?" Aurora snapped. "What’s your problem with me? You've been picking on me and shutting me out for ages! Aren't we supposed to be compassionate as future doctors? At the very least, we should be kind. If you can hurt a classmate on purpose now, how are you going to treat patients later?"
"Aurora, it was just a tiny cut, and you're making a big deal out of it. Others can lecture me about compassion, but who are you to talk?"
"You're the daughter of a murderer. Your dad killed an innocent woman for you. You've got his blood in your veins, so your genes are bad."
"And you want to lecture me about compassion and kindness? Do you know how ridiculous you sound? If anyone's unfit to be a doctor, it's you, Aurora!"
Kelly's last words were delivered with a sneer as she jabbed Aurora's chest with her finger before turning and walking away.
The daughter of a murderer?
No matter what Aurora argued, people only needed to throw those words back at her to leave her speechless.
After Kelly left the nurse's office, Jade hurried over and asked, "Kelly, how did it go?"
"What do you think? She got bandaged up and then had the nerve to lecture me. It's hilarious."
"She lectured you? Look at her background. I can't stand seeing her anymore. Women who pretend to be pure but are filthy inside are the worst."
"Exactly. How else could she have that uncle wrapped around her finger?"
"Exactly!"
As they talked, they saw Aurora rushing out of the nurse's office. Seeing her in a hurry, Jade said, "Let's see where she's going."
Aurora had just received a call from Tristram, saying the car he sent to pick her up had arrived, so she hurried off the campus.
Kelly and Jade followed her and watched as she got into a luxury car.
"See what I mean? Aurora's got skills. She had Cormac in Arizona City, and now she's got another rich guy here."
Kelly squinted at the license plate and said, "I think I recognize that car. It looks like it's from the Rivers family."
"The Rivers family? The richest family in Silverlight City?" Jade was shocked.
"Yes, I'm sure of it!" Kelly confirmed, cursing, "That bitch has some serious skills!"
"Yeah, she's not even that pretty. I don't get what those big shots see in her," Jade said worriedly. "Cormac is far away in Arizona City, but if she gets close to the Rivers family here, she'll have someone backing her up locally."
"That can't happen! She's already getting all the good stuff at school. If she gets the Rivers family on her side, she'll be even more unbearable."
"We need to work harder to push her out. If we make her life miserable enough, she'll drop out on her own," Jade fantasized. "Once she's gone, you'll be the top student in our department, and all the good opportunities will be yours."
Kelly couldn't help but scoff, "I've been the queen bee at every school I've attended, until Aurora showed up and started competing with me for everything!"
Aurora got into the Rivers family car. Ever since she met Ryder, she had been a bit apprehensive. He had told her to get lost last time, and now she was unsure how he would react to seeing her again.
The car stopped in the driveway, and Aurora got out, walking into the villa alone. The place was so quiet that her footsteps echoed.
"What is this?" Aurora heard the sound of a bowl shattering as soon as she entered, followed by Ryder's angry voice scolding Eva, "Is this slop meant for pigs?"Ryder had driven away all the maids and didn't use a chef, so Eva had to do everything herself, which was quite a burden for her.
"Mr. Rivers, please don't be angry. I'll make something else right away," Eva said hurriedly.
Seeing this, Aurora felt a pang of sympathy. Eva was quite old, and if it were her mother in this situation, how heartbroken would she be?
"Eva, let me clean this up," Aurora said, taking the broom from Eva, who was picking up the broken pieces.
"I told you to get lost. Why are you shamelessly back here? Are you that desperate for money?" Ryder's tone was as unpleasant as ever.
Aurora looked up at him and replied, "If I weren't desperate for money, why would I put up with your attitude?"
Aurora had been feeling oppressed for a long time due to the constant bullying, and she couldn't hold back her retort.
"Fine, you need money, right? Tristram gave you two hundred thousand dollars. I'll give you ten times that amount. Take the money and get out!" Ryder shouted at her.
"I do need money, but I also have a sense of duty. I promised your brother I'd treat you, and I'll keep my word," Aurora responded firmly.
"You're so self-righteous."
Aurora didn't reply; instead, she threw the broken pieces into the trash.
Ryder's gaze fell on her bandaged right hand, lingering for a few seconds before he looked away.
After cleaning up, Aurora went to ask Eva where to put the broom, but saw her crying while cooking.
"Eva, hurry up. Are you trying to starve me?" Ryder's harsh voice urged.
"Yes, Mr. Rivers," Eva replied, holding back her tears.
Seeing this, Aurora felt even worse. She walked into the kitchen and quietly asked Eva, "Eva, how do you put up with his bad temper? If it's too much, you could find another job."
"I've been working for the Rivers family since I was young. After Mr. Ryder Rivers had his accident, he drove away all the other maids but kept me because I took care of him since he was little."
"Mr. Ryder Rivers is now in a wheelchair and can't take care of himself. Mr. Tristram Rivers insisted I stay to look after him and pays me well, so..."
"Mr. Tristram Rivers is a good man. He cares about his brother," Aurora said.
"Yes, Mr. Tristram Rivers is kind and treats us maids well. He cares deeply for Mr. Ryder Rivers, but Mr. Ryder Rivers has changed since his accident. He doesn't appreciate kindness and treats Mr. Tristram Rivers poorly. We all feel bad for Mr. Tristram Rivers. He's found so many doctors to treat him, but Ryder refuses. Why should he bother? He should just let him be."
Realizing she had said too much, Eva quickly covered her mouth and said, "I didn't mean it that way, I just..."
"I didn't hear anything. You don't need to explain," Aurora said, taking over Eva's task. "I'll handle this."
"Dr. Ryan, you can't do that."
"It's fine. If he doesn't like your cooking, I'll give it a try," Aurora said. If she could cook something Ryder liked, he might cooperate with her treatment.
"Dr. Ryan, you're such a good person. Thank you," Eva said gratefully.
Aurora had been cooking since she was young and had been in Silverlight City for two years, so she was familiar with the local tastes. She decided to give it a shot.
"Aren't you starving?" Aurora brought the food to Ryder. "I made this. Try it and see if you like it."
Ryder looked at the food and then at Aurora, his sneer and disdain evident. "Aurora, you'll do anything to stay here, won't you? Did Tristram only give you two hundred thousand dollars? Or should I ask, did he give you any other instructions besides treating my leg?"
