Chapter 607 You Said You Would Wait for Him?

Ever since she met Tommy, Gillian had completely lost control of her heart. It was like she was hypnotized, inexplicably and uncontrollably drawn to him.

She became devoid of any intelligence, any thought, any reason, and she especially relied on his care.

Even when she was born, her father wasn't a commander yet, but he already held a high rank in the military. She never lacked for care, with servants and chefs at home;

In the military, the logistics and cooking teams always followed her around. But no one had ever taken care of her as thoroughly as Tommy did.

It felt like being with him meant she only had to focus on living, and he would handle everything else. With him in her life, it felt like she had everything.

When Tommy said he had to go on a business trip, she was initially suspicious, but gradually her doubts faded. Now, after hearing so much from Tommy over the phone, she didn't know how to feel. She just wanted to cry, and the tears wouldn't stop, her heart aching terribly.

"I've packed everything. I'm leaving, Gillian."

The speaker was Thomas. He had come early that morning because Alaric had called him, asking if Marigold had asked him to send her some photos. Thomas knew something was wrong.

After hiding it from him for so long, Alaric finally told him about Gillian's burns.

Despite his battle-hardened experience, Thomas was still shaken to the core when he heard the news, rushing over immediately.

When he saw how many parts of Gillian's body were injured, he, who never shed tears, secretly cried in a corner.

His precious daughter, with her hypersensitive nerves, he couldn't imagine how she endured the initial burns. He really couldn't bear to think about it; the thought alone made his heart ache terribly.

But in front of Gillian, Thomas remained calm. She was recovering well, and he didn't want to add to her psychological burden.

"You're coming home with me. We're never coming back to Arizona City, never again."

Thomas regretted it so much that he wanted to kill himself. If he had known she would suffer like this, he would never have left her in Arizona City. He would have taken her home no matter what.

He had packed all her belongings and was about to help her off the hospital bed to take her home, but Gillian didn't move.

"What's wrong? Did I hurt you?" Thomas quickly withdrew his hands in fear. "Then you get down yourself, I'll find a wheelchair for you..."

"Dad," Gillian interrupted him, "I don't want to leave."

Thomas's expression changed immediately upon hearing this, sensing something and struggling to control his emotions.

"You don't want to leave? Why? Is it because of your health?" Thomas quickly said, "I know the medical facilities here are great, but don't worry, I'll find the best hospital and doctors for you at home."

Gillian just shook her head, her voice hoarse from crying, not daring to look up at Thomas. She kept her head down and said softly, "I want to stay in Arizona City. I want to get my PhD at Arizona University. I want to study here. I want to wait for him."

Hearing the last sentence, Thomas felt like his heart was about to explode. He blacked out for a moment, taking a while to recover.

"Gillian, what did you just say? You want to wait for him? Did I hear that right? You want to wait for him?"

Gillian didn't say a word, just kept her head down, crying. Yes, this was her decision. She couldn't let go of Tommy; she wanted to wait for him.

Thomas felt his heart ache terribly with anger. He had an urge to shake her, to snap her out of it.

"Gillian, have I ever let you get a scratch growing up? Look at yourself now, look!"

Thomas pulled at her clothes, shouting in pain and anger, "You've been burned like this, with a third of your body almost destroyed. Who caused this? Me?"

"Yes, it's my fault! If I had known that giving him a character reference would lead to this, I wouldn't have done it!"

"Whether he was wronged or not, what does it matter to me? Why did I meddle, traveling all the way to give him a reference? And what happened?"

Thomas deeply regretted it now. He could have stayed out of it, but his good friend had asked him, and he knew. He came to give a reference for an undercover cop, and what happened?

That undercover cop ruined his daughter, and now she wanted to wait for him?

Gillian cried harder at Thomas's scolding. She understood her father's feelings, but she couldn't let go of her feelings for Tommy.

Thomas couldn't hold back his emotions anymore, shaking with anger.

"Gillian, are all the men in the world dead? Are they all dead? Even now, you want to wait for him? How long? Three years, five years, ten years?"

Gillian still couldn't speak. She didn't know how long she would wait, but she would wait no matter how long.

Thomas was about to explode with anger, but seeing her cry like this, he felt heartbroken and softened his tone.

"Are you afraid you won't get married like this? Even if you don't, so what? You still have me. I'm not dead yet; I can still take care of you."

Seeing her like this, Thomas was both angry and heartbroken.

Gillian still kept her head down, crying, showing no intention of leaving with him. Thomas asked again, "Gillian, I'll ask you one more time, are you coming home with me?"

Gillian bit her lip tightly, then shook her head without answering.

"Gillian, you're hopeless, absolutely hopeless!" Thomas was furious at her stubbornness.

"All you want now is Tommy, right? After all these years of raising you, I raised you to be self-deprecating and to marry a criminal?"

With Alaric not at the hospital and Stellan and Rowena still in postnatal care, Cormac rushed over upon hearing Thomas's outburst.

"Mr. Emberlyn, please calm down. She's still a patient; don't get angry with her."

Cormac tried to calm him down, but this wasn't something that could be resolved with a few words.

Thomas forced himself to calm down, taking a moment to collect his emotions before asking again, "Gillian, this is the last time I'm asking you. Are you sure you want to stay here and wait for him?"

This time, Gillian spoke, her voice hoarse but firm, "Yes!"

"Fine!" Seeing her determination, Thomas couldn't say anything more. He angrily threw the packed suitcase and shouted, "If you want to wait for him, don't come to me as your father anymore!"

With that, Thomas stormed out, and Cormac quickly called after him, chasing him out. Left alone in the hospital room, Gillian felt like she couldn't cry anymore.

At this point, she knew her father would never agree to her staying with Tommy, but she couldn't fight her own heart.
