Chapter 637 Feigned Reconciliation
Aurora had already reported the issue to the principal, and Maurice had been making the rounds, asking other students in their department and even talking to Kelly and Jade.
Since Kelly and Jade had been prepped beforehand, they both claimed they hadn't noticed Aurora being bullied. Those with a bit of conscience just said they didn't know.
The principal was too busy to follow Aurora around 24/7, and all the students were from out of town, with no family nearby.
No one wanted to become the next target of bullying by speaking up for Aurora, so Maurice's investigation turned up nothing substantial.
Kelly and Jade's attitudes were particularly apologetic.
"Mr. Robbins, during the last anatomy class, I accidentally hurt Aurora. It was a slip of the hand, not intentional. I can write a self-reflection and apologize to Aurora in person. As for the bullying accusations, we were just messing around as classmates. If Aurora felt bullied, I promise it won't happen again. I'll apologize to her."
Kelly was also a top student that the school was focusing on, just like Aurora. The teachers didn't want anything to happen to either of them.
"You are all college students now. There should be limits to your horseplay. Both of you write a self-reflection, apologize to Aurora in front of me, and promise it won't happen again," the principal said.
"Yes, Mr. Robbins."
Both of them wrote their reflections and apologized to Aurora in front of Maurice, promising it would never happen again.
"Aurora, they've apologized. What do you think?" Maurice, concerned about the school's reputation, didn't want to escalate the situation. "It's just classmates messing around. If we label them as bullies, it will follow them for life."
"Yes, Aurora, we know we were wrong. Please give us another chance. If this goes on our records, we won't be able to graduate. All our efforts will be wasted. We promise it won't happen again. Please forgive us. We're sorry, Aurora."
Kelly and Jade kept apologizing. Aurora, wanting to end this ordeal, didn't want to blow things out of proportion.
"Promise you won't bully me again."
"We promise. It was all our fault before. We absolutely won't bully you again," Kelly said sincerely.
"Alright, as long as you change."
After all, the principal had said to be forgiving.
"Thank you so much, Aurora."
The three of them left the principal's office together, with Kelly and Jade linking arms with Aurora in a friendly manner.
"Aurora, we're sorry about before. We were wrong, and you were so forgiving," Jade said.
"Yes, Aurora, thank you for being so understanding," Kelly added. "Let's be friends from now on. To show our apology, let us treat you to lunch today. What do you want to eat?"
"No need. Just change your ways," Aurora said, pulling her arms free and walking away quickly.
After she left, Kelly and Jade exchanged a triumphant look and smiled.
For the next week, although Aurora was still alone without friends, no one deliberately made things difficult for her. The bullying seemed to have stopped.
With no one bullying her, Aurora's mood took a turn for the better. She had been pretty down before, but now she was all smiles.
"Hey, you seem to be in a good mood lately," Ryder said.
"Yeah," Aurora nodded. "I can finally study without any drama."
Studying in peace? The stress and fear from being bullied had been a lot to handle. Now that those jerks were leaving her alone, she could actually focus on her work.
"By the way, did you get those meds I mentioned?" Eva was out shopping, so it was just the two of them at the villa.
"Yeah, I got them."
"Make sure you take them on time," Aurora said. "But honestly, with your condition, just taking meds is kinda slow. You should really think about combining it with some clinical treatment."
"No need, the meds are fine."
"Is it because of your brother and your girlfriend that you're so against seeing a doctor?"
She saw his expression change and quickly apologized, "Sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
Ryder didn't respond right away. After a bit, he asked, "Have you ever been in a relationship?"
"No."
Ryder gave a bitter smile. "Then there's no point in explaining."
Aurora stayed quiet. She hadn't been in a relationship, but she could imagine how awful it must feel to be betrayed, especially by your own brother.
"Things will get better," Aurora tried to encourage him. "No matter why the breakup happened, it means you weren't meant to be. You gotta look forward. Once you're better, you can start fresh and meet someone who's really right for you."
Start a new relationship? Ryder hadn't even thought about that.
"By the way, I have exams coming up, so I need to focus on studying. I won't be coming over for a while. After the exams, it'll be summer break, and I can cook for you three times a day, but you'll need to pay me a bit more. Is that cool?"
Ryder couldn't help but smile at her being so precise about money.
"Sure," Ryder agreed.
"Thanks," Aurora said gratefully. "Take care. I'll be going now. If you have any bad reactions to the meds or anything else, just call me."
Aurora waved and left. Ryder watched her go, noticing how her steps seemed lighter now that she was in a better mood.
Aurora was genuinely happy. She felt so relieved. Not long after leaving the Rivers Villa, her phone rang. It was Cormac.
"Hey, Uncle Cormac."
"I've been swamped lately and haven't called you. How's everything? Is the study pressure high?" Cormac asked.
"Not too bad. Don't worry, I'm keeping up with everything the teachers are throwing at us."
Cormac never worried about Aurora's studies. He asked, "You have exams coming up, right? How's the prep going?"
"No problem at all."
"I knew my Aurora was the best," Cormac said. "After the exams, it'll be summer break, right? When you come back, we'll take you out to relax. I've already talked to Alaric. We'll take you kids out for some fun during the break."
"Uncle Cormac, I've been so focused on studying that I forgot to tell you. I don't plan to come back to Arizona City this summer."
"Not coming back?" Cormac asked quickly. "Why not?"
