Chapter 568: With You Here, I'm Not Afraid of Anything
"Then you want to buy a house in Arizona and still ask me for money.Doesn't that make Tommy a kept man?" Thomas asked.
"There's a bit of a difference, at least in Tommy's mind."
"You really do think for him," Thomas felt heartbroken. He had raised his daughter for so many years, and now her heart was all on Tommy.
"I only have one daughter, and I'm getting old. I just want you to be closer to me. Your house, your car, and his job, I can arrange all of it. Isn't that enough?"
"But I just want to buy a house in Arizona, and you won't help me?"
"Talking to you is like talking to a wall," Thomas was really angry. "I still say the same thing, if you come back with him, I can help with everything. But if you don't want him to be a kept man and insist on staying in Arizona, then you have to figure out the house on your own."
"Dad, you can't be so harsh. I'm your only daughter. If you don't give me the money, who will you give it to?"
"I didn't say I wouldn't give it to you. I just want you to come back. If you don't listen, then forget it. Since Tommy is so capable, why ask me for such a small thing as buying a house? Let him solve it for you."
After Thomas finished speaking, he hung up the phone before Gillian could say anything else. After putting down the phone, Gillian pouted angrily and muttered to herself, "What a cheapskate."
Since Thomas wouldn't help her out, she had to figure it out herself. But with the high house prices in Arizona, what could she do?
At that moment, she heard the front door open. Gillian immediately perked up and ran out of the study.
"Tommy, you're back!" Gillian shouted and jumped onto him. Tommy naturally caught her.
"How much did you study today? How many practice problems did you do?" Tommy voiced.
"Do you have to ask that as soon as you come back?" Gillian pouted in disappointment.
"Since you decided to go for a PhD, you have to work hard. Otherwise, how can you get in?"
Unlike others, she had the condition to do nothing but prepare for the PhD.
"I know, I will work hard."
"Good. Finish the practice problems quickly. I'll cook first, and after dinner, I'll check them." Tommy spoke in a teacher-like tone.
"Got it, Tommy." Gillian nodded.
After Tommy changed clothes and went into the kitchen, Gillian returned to the study to continue her practice problems.
As Tommy said, after dinner, Tommy went into the study to check her practice problems.
For her mistakes, Tommy patiently explained them and made her carefully organize them into a mistake notebook. This went on until after eleven o'clock.
Seeing Gillian yawn, Tommy asked, "Tired?"
"Yes." Gillian lazily nodded and leaned on Tommy, "I studied too much today. My brain is about to explode. I'm not studying anymore. I'm tired. Carry me to bed."
Tommy helplessly shook his head and carried her to the bedroom. She was really tired from studying and fell asleep as soon as she touched the bed.
Tommy carefully took off her clothes and covered her with a blanket. While Gillian slept soundly, Tommy couldn't sleep because he had something on his mind.
He took out the old phone and dialed the only number in it.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable..."
Hearing this, Tommy turned off the phone, put it away, and went to bed.
The next morning, Gillian woke up naturally. When she woke up, she was alone in bed. Looking at the time, it was almost nine o'clock.
Why didn't Tommy wake her up today? Gillian quickly got out of bed and walked out of the bedroom. Hearing sounds in the house, she saw that Tommy was still home.
"Tommy, you didn't go to work today?" Gillian asked with confuse.
"I'm off today." Tommy replied.
"Really?!" Gillian was excited. Tommy had been very busy with work lately and hadn't had a day off. Today he finally could rest.
"Yes," Tommy spoke, "so I can teach you all day today."
"What? You finally have a day off and you want to stay home and study?"
"What else?"
"Go out and have fun. We haven't had a proper date yet," Gillian uttered resentfully. "We haven't done the things couples do like shopping, eating out, and watching movies."
It seemed true. Tommy wasn't enthusiastic about these things, but Gillian couldn't stand it.
"What do you want to do?" Tommy asked.
"Do what young people like to do now. Go to the movies, play escape rooms, and play a round of murder mystery."
"What's a murder mystery?" Tommy didn't understand at all.
"Tommy, you really seem like you came from the past. You don't even know what a murder mystery is?"
Seeing Tommy's confused look, Gillian pulled his hand and spoke, "Come on, I'll take you to play today. You'll know how fun it is."
So Gillian took him out. The whole day was planned by Gillian. First, they watched a horror movie, then played an escape room, and finally played a murder mystery.
When they came out, it was already dark. Gillian was very excited about the game.
"Tommy, you're amazing. You hid so well. No one suspected you were the killer until the end. You're incredible!"
He hid so well? Hearing this, Tommy couldn't help but be thoughtful.
"No wonder you don't like these games. With your intelligence, playing these games is really unfair to them."
Tommy couldn't help but smile. He found today's experience very interesting. He had never heard of these things, let alone played them.
"Today was so much fun. Thank you, Tommy," Gillian voiced happily. "Especially during the movie and escape room, I would have been scared to death without you."
"You're so timid, yet you insisted on watching a horror movie and playing an escape room."
"That's because you're here. With you, I'm not afraid of anything." Gillian leaned on him. As long as he was there, Gillian felt very safe.
Tommy was silent, deep in thought.
Seeing a restroom, Tommy uttered, "Gillian, I'm going to the restroom. Wait here."
"Okay." Gillian let go of Tommy's arm and watched him go into the restroom. She waited outside.
Across the street, a few pairs of eyes were watching Gillian. One person signaled, and they all started moving towards her.
