Chapter 635 He Actually Knows How to Say Thank You?

Eva shot a quick glance at Ryder to make sure he was still out cold before she relaxed and said, "Actually, Mrs. Rivers and Ryder used to be a thing."

Well, that explains a lot.

"So why... cheat?" Aurora asked.

"Look, you can't really blame Mrs. Rivers. Even before the accident, Ryder was kind of a mess—immature and childish. Tristram, on the other hand, knew how to take care of people."

"Back then, Ryder was studying abroad and barely kept in touch with Mrs. Rivers. Tristram's first wife had passed away, and Mrs. Rivers, being an artist, wanted to start a training school."

"Ryder couldn't help her from overseas, so Tristram stepped in. Over time, they got closer and eventually hooked up."

"Tristram is mature, reliable, and caring, while Ryder is spoiled and reckless. After the accident, he got even more unstable. Any girl would choose Tristram, right?"

Ryder bit his lip and clenched his fists as he listened.

"Even though I'm not Ryder's biggest fan, Eva, what you said isn't fair," Aurora said slowly. "No matter how many flaws he has, Ms. Morris knew about them when she started dating him."

"If she couldn't handle it, she should've broken up with him. Why cheat? And why make excuses for it? Cheating is wrong, period."

"And out of all the guys in the world, she had to cheat with his brother? For the rest of their lives, they'd have to see each other constantly. Turning a former lover into a sister-in-law, doesn't that hurt?"

Ryder's nose tingled at Aurora's words. She was the first person to stand up for him since the accident.

"Alright, Dr. Ryan, you're the smart one here. I'm just a simple person who didn't study much. You're right, I'll get back to work now."

With that, Eva left. Aurora pouted and looked at Ryder, who still had his eyes closed.

No wonder he hated Tristram so much. According to what was said, he had just returned to the country when the explosion happened. He barely survived, his face was messed up, and his leg was crippled. Then he found out his girlfriend had become his sister-in-law. No wonder he completely broke down.

As she was thinking, Ryder opened his eyes. Aurora quickly asked, "You're awake?"

Ryder responded faintly, still feeling groggy. "What happened to me? Why did I suddenly pass out?"

"Because I gave you a shot to knock you out," Aurora said, helping him sit up and handing him a bowl of medicine. "I had Eva prepare this for you. Drink it; it'll help calm you down."

Ryder looked at the herbal medicine and then at Aurora. "Thanks."

Thanks?

Someone as rude as him said thanks?

Ryder's gratitude wasn't just for the medicine but also for what she had said earlier.

After drinking the medicine, Ryder thought about how he used to lose control and break things in a fit of rage. This time, she had given him a shot, and he had slept through it, sparing him a lot of pain.

"Aurora, can you cure my mania?"

"As long as you cooperate, it shouldn't be a problem."

Hearing this, Ryder looked outside and then said, "Close the door."

"Okay."

Aurora closed the door, and Ryder lowered his voice. "Don't let anyone know you're treating my mania. Not Tristram, not Eva. If they ask, say I'm not cooperating."

"Why?"

"Don't ask, just do as I say," Ryder insisted. "If you cure my mania, I'll pay you."

"Your brother already paid me."

"I'll pay you afterward. Return the $200,000 to him. I don't need his money!"

"Okay," Aurora agreed, remembering how much he hated his brother.

"Can you cure my mania? How confident are you?" Ryder asked urgently. After the accident, Ryder had been through some serious mental trauma. The smallest thing could set him off, causing him a ton of pain each time.

"I'm about sixty percent confident, but don't worry. I have other people who can help," Aurora said. "Have you heard of VitalityCare Medical Center?"

"The big private hospital chain? Yeah, of course."

"The director of VitalityCare, Stellan Storm, I know her. If I can't fix you, I can consult her. And even if she can't help, there are plenty of top-notch professors at her hospital. So your condition is definitely treatable," Aurora explained.

"You know Stellan?"

"Yep, and she even said she wants to train me as her successor."

"You're kidding."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh. It did sound like she was bragging.

"Believe what you want," Aurora said. "Not just your mania, but your leg too. I'll do my best to treat you."

"Just focus on my mania. Leave my leg alone."

"Why? Don't you want to walk again..."

"I said leave it!" Ryder snapped.

"Okay," Aurora replied, feeling a bit defeated.

"Don't use herbal medicine. The smell is too strong and hard to hide."

"Alright, I'll prepare modern medicine for you."

"Good," Ryder said, then added, "I'm hungry. Go make some food. I'll pay you double for being my doctor and chef."

"Fine," Aurora agreed. She needed the money, and cooking for him was a reasonable way to earn it.

Aurora found suitable modern medicine for him and took on the role of his doctor and chef. Because of her new responsibilities, she started coming over every evening instead of just on weekends.

School was still a nightmare for Aurora. Kelly and her friends never missed a chance to bully her, no matter how hard she tried to avoid them.

One day after school, she rushed out quickly to avoid them, but in her haste, she either accidentally tripped or was tripped by someone and tumbled down the stairs. Luckily, the stairs were short.

"Aurora, how can you be so clumsy? Falling down the stairs?" Kelly said, pretending to help her up. Aurora quickly got up and ran away.

"Aurora, I was just trying to help. Why are you running?" Kelly called out, laughing with her friends at Aurora's disheveled state.

Ignoring the pain, Aurora ran out of the school, biting her lip. She knew they were bullying her on purpose.

But they were many, and no one was willing to help her. What could she do?

Feeling helpless, Aurora searched online on her phone.

[What to do if you're being bullied at school?]

The common answers were to tell a teacher or call the police.

If she were about to graduate, she could endure it for a few months. But she still had years to go, and Kelly would likely stay for graduate school.

Aurora decided to talk to the principal the next day. When Cormac had brought her to the school, he had spoken to the principal, who would surely help her.

Aurora returned to Ryder's villa, her body aching from the fall.

Ryder noticed the new bruises on her arm and asked, "Are you going to school or getting into fights? Why do you come back injured every day?"
