Chapter 569: The Absurd and Bizarre Plot of a Hero Saving a Beauty
When Gillian realized her bag was about to be snatched, she instinctively held on to it, but soon another person came running from the other side.
Because Gillian was still holding on, she was yanked hard, causing her body to tilt completely. Just as she was about to fall heavily to the ground, she felt a tightness around her waist, and then her feet left the ground as she was lifted up.
"Tommy!"
Just now, Tommy had heard her shout and ran over at lightning speed, catching her falling body with one hand.
Seeing that help had arrived, the assailant immediately pulled out a knife and swung it at Gillian. Tommy, still holding Gillian with one hand, quickly turned to shield her behind him.
With his other hand, Tommy grabbed the attacker's wrist holding the knife, twisted it forcefully to form an arc, then lifted his leg through the arc and pressed down hard on the attacker's back.
There was a crisp sound of bones breaking, and then Tommy kicked the attacker away.
Tommy quickly turned around and kicked another person who was about to attack Gillian from behind.
Only one was left. He hurriedly stabbed at Tommy with a knife, but before he could get close, the knife was kicked out of his hand.
In just a second, Tommy caught the knife in mid-air, and by the time the attacker realized what had happened, one of his arms was already twisted behind his back, and the knife was at his throat.
"Who sent you?" Tommy's questioning voice sounded in his ear.
"Please, sir, spare us. We were wrong. We were just out robbing to make a living. Please, sir, spare us!" The attacker pleaded.
"I asked who sent you!" Tommy's tone grew heavier as he twisted the assailant's arm harder.
"It hurts!" The man pleaded in pain, "No one sent us. We were just being stupid. We won't dare do it again, we swear!!"
The fight had attracted quite a crowd, and the nearby patrol officers at the security booth quickly ran over.
"Take these three to the detective squad!" Tommy directly showed his police badge to the approaching officers and instructed them.
"Understood, Mr. Reaves."
Hearing this, the three men lying on the ground looked at each other in shock, and even Gillian couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for them.
"My boyfriend is a cop!" Gillian proudly announced, "You guys just had to rob my bag. Tough luck for you."
After the three men were taken away by the patrol officers, Tommy kept watching them, lost in thought.
"Tommy!" Gillian cheered excitedly, "You were so cool just now. This is like a real-life hero saving the damsel in distress! Wow! I can't believe I experienced such a bizarre and thrilling scene from a novel. I love this it!"
"You were almost robbed and hurt, and you still love it!" Tommy spoke, wrapping an arm around her and quickly getting her into the car.
He had originally planned to spend more time shopping with her, but now he was in no mood. Once in the car, Tommy quickly asked, "Are you hurt?"
"No, I didn't even fall because you came just in time," Gillian replied, her infatuation evident, "Tommy, you were really so cool just now!"
"This is a serious matter, not a joke," Tommy sternly reminded her, "If this happens again, the most sensible thing to do is to report it to the police after being robbed, not to fight with the robbers. It's very dangerous, you know?"
"I know," Gillian giggled, "But my boyfriend is a cop. If something like this happens, I don't need to call the police. I can just call you."
Seeing how totally unfazed she was, Tommy felt helpless. Gillian really had no sense of safety. But were those three men really just simple robbers?
By the time Tommy brought Gillian back to the apartment complex, it was already past nine. In the elevator, Tommy kept looking her over, asking, "Are you really not hurt?"
"Of course not. You know how sensitive I am to pain. If I were hurt, I'd be in so much pain. I'm completely fine now."
As she spoke, Gillian spun around in front of him. Confirming she wasn't hurt, Tommy felt relieved.
"Tommy, you were really so cool just now. How did you take those guys down? I was right in front of you, and I didn't even see it. You moved so fast. How did you do it?"
"There you go again."
"But you were really cool. How did you do it? Teach me. You can teach me some self-defense, right? Tell me, you..."
Just then, the elevator door opened, and they almost bumped into Uncle Josep as they stepped out.
"Uncle Josep?"
Seeing Josep there, Gillian was surprised, "It's so late. What are you doing here, Uncle Josep?"
"This is a box of fruit that a patient's family insisted on giving me," Josep explained, holding a box of rare fruit, "They said it's a specially grafted fruit from their place, not usually available for purchase. They gave me two boxes, and I can't eat that much, so I thought I'd bring one over for you."
Josep handed the box of fruit to Gillian, but Tommy intercepted it and took it himself.
"Thank you, Uncle Josep," Tommy voiced, "Next time, just call me, and I'll come pick it up myself. It's so late, you shouldn't have to bring it over."
"It's no trouble. I was just coming back from the hospital," Josep spoke after delivering the fruit, "Alright, you two go home and rest. I'm leaving."
"Thank you, Uncle Josep." Gillian uttered.
After Josep got into the elevator, Tommy's eyes followed him until Gillian pulled him, saying, "Tommy, Uncle Josep is long gone. What are you still looking at? Let's go home."
The two of them went home, and once inside, Gillian opened the box of fruit, genuinely curious.
"Specially grafted fruit? What is this? I've never seen it before," Gillian said, taking one out and examining it, "Is it sweet or sour?"
Gillian was about to try one when Tommy quickly took it from her and put it back in the box, saying, "Don't eat unfamiliar fruit. You might get a stomachache."
"How can eating fruit give me a stomachache? Uncle Josep brought it over, so let's try it."
"If you're craving fruit, I'll buy you some tomorrow. Let's skip this one. It doesn't look appetizing," Tommy spoke, putting the whole box away.
"But I haven't even tried it yet," Gillian pouted, "It's not available for purchase."
"But Tommy, I'm hungry," Gillian called out to Tommy.
They hadn't had dinner, and Tommy saw that it was already late. "Eating at this hour isn't healthy. Just bear with it and you'll fall asleep."
"But I'm too hungry to sleep," Gillian complained, "I'm really hungry."
Tommy had no choice and compromised, "Alright, I'll make you something, but just a little. You can't eat too much."
"I knew Tommy was the best. I promise I'll just eat a little," Gillian uttered, turning on the TV while Tommy went to the kitchen.
Tommy glanced back at Gillian, who was engrossed in the TV.
Feeling uneasy about the events of the night, Tommy took out that old phone and dialed a number.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."
It was the same situation again.
