Chapter 564: That Cell Phone

"I'll ask, Stellan, and call you back later." Hanging up the phone, Gillian found Tommy. "Tommy, Stellan said we're having dinner at her place tonight. Are you going?"

"Unfortunately, I just got a call from Neil. The department heads are hosting a dinner tonight."

"Your department heads are hosting a dinner?" Gillian got excited. "You have to go. You just got promoted to deputy team leader, and the heads are inviting you. That means they value you."

Actually, Tommy didn't want to go, but he couldn't refuse the invitation from the heads.

"Gillian, I'll drop you off at The Knight Mansion this afternoon, and then I'll go."

"No need," Gillian replied. "If you're not going, then I won't go either."

"Why won't you go if I don't? Last time at the hospital ribbon-cutting, I had a last-minute task, and you didn't have much fun. You should go tonight." Tommy cooed.

Gillian shook her head and leaned into his arms. "Tommy, do you think I'm sick? I feel like I have a disease where I just want to be with you 24/7. When you're not around, I can't get excited about anything, and it's getting worse."

Tommy smiled indulgently, "That won't do. I can't be with you 24/7. You've been cooped up at home for days. Since you get along with Mrs. Knight, you should go. You also have a lot of study pressure."

"If you're not going, I don't want to go either. Everyone else will be in pairs, and Stellan and Mrs. Rowena are best friends and both pregnant. I won't have anything to talk about." Gillian insisted.

"Alright, if you don't want to go, then don't." Tommy spoke, "I'll make you dinner before I leave this afternoon."

"No need, Vivienne is home. She can cook. You don't have to work so hard."

"Okay." Then Tommy instructed Vivienne, "Vivienne, I might be home late tonight."

"Okay, Mr. Reaves. I'll leave after you get back." Vivienne replied.

Gillian called Stellan back. Stellan thought Gillian, who loved socializing, would definitely come, but she declined.

"If she doesn't come, that's fine." Alaric wasn't surprised. "She's afraid I'll argue with Tommy."

Stellan laughed and sighed, "Gillian truly loves Tommy. It's better if she doesn't come. Otherwise, I'd have to listen to her praise Tommy all night."

Gillian really loved Tommy deeply. As soon as he left, she felt listless. She stared at a book for half a day without turning a page.

She kept checking her phone. It was already past nine, and he still wasn't back. Gillian closed the book, bored, and rested her chin on her hand, counting the time.

Finally, she heard a knock on the door. Gillian instantly perked up and rushed out of the study. "Vivienne, I'll get the door!"

Gillian hurried to open the door, and a strong smell of alcohol hit her. Outside, Vernon was supporting Tommy, who was clearly drunk.

"Hello, Stellan. Captain Tommy is drunk. I brought him back."

"Thank you." Gillian quickly took Tommy from Vernon's hands. She couldn't support him alone and called out, "Vivienne, come help."

Vivienne came to help. Seeing Tommy so drunk, Gillian felt heartbroken. "Tommy? Why did you drink so much? Did your boss make you drink?"

Tommy's speech was slurred. "My head is spinning."

"Don't talk. Let's get you to bed." Gillian and Vivienne helped Tommy to bed.

As soon as they laid him down, Gillian's phone rang. It was Neil. She answered and immediately questioned, "Who made Tommy drink tonight?"

Neil felt apologetic. "It was Tommy's first dinner with us. Everyone at the table can drink a lot. I didn't realize Tommy couldn't handle his liquor. He only had a little and got drunk. Is he okay?"

"You better hope he's okay. If anything happens to him, I don't care who the boss is. Don't blame me for causing a scene!" Gillian spoke sternly.

Gillian hung up on Neil, still furious. "I'm so mad. If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have let you go to that dinner."

After venting, Gillian looked at the uncomfortable, drunk Tommy and felt even more heartbroken. She quickly instructed Vivienne, "Vivienne, make some egg soup."

Vivienne went to make the soup. Gillian carefully took off Tommy's shoes and clothes, covered him with a blanket, and when Vivienne brought the egg soup, Gillian quickly voiced, "Shh."

Gillian stood up holding Tommy's clothes and waved for Vivienne to leave as well. After they both left, Gillian uttered, "He's asleep. Let's skip the egg soup for now. Vivienne, you should stay here tonight. I'm worried he might feel unwell in the middle of the night, and I can't handle it alone."

"Alright." Vivienne placed the egg soup aside, and Gillian handed Tommy's clothes to her. "Vivienne, could you wash his clothes?"

"Sure." Vivienne took Tommy's clothes and, as usual, checked the pockets for any items like lighters that needed to be removed.

She had checked the pockets, but there seemed to be something hard inside the clothes that she couldn't find. Seeing Vivienne fumbling, Gillian, who hadn't left yet, asked, "What's wrong?"

"I can feel something hard inside the clothes, but I can't find the pocket. Where is it?"

Seeing Vivienne struggling, Gillian frowned and took Tommy's jacket to feel it. There was indeed something hard inside, but where was the pocket?

Unable to find the pocket, Gillian used scissors to cut it open. As soon as she did, something fell out. Looking down, it was a very vintage phone.

Gillian thought inwardly, 'Was this a phone sewn into his clothes? Such an old phone.'

Gillian bent down to pick it up and tried to turn it on, only to find it had a password. This surprised her. "Such an old phone with a password protection, how strange."

Gillian didn't think much of it and placed it on the table outside. She then yawned and said to Vivienne, "Vivienne, I'm going to sleep now. After you finish washing the clothes, you can sleep too, but you'll have to sleep on the couch tonight."

"Okay, Ms. Emberlyn." Vivienne replied.

Gillian returned to the bedroom, climbed into bed, and leaned into Tommy's arms. Looking at the sleeping Tommy, she couldn't help but kiss him and said, "My Tommy is so charming even when he's drunk. And so well-behaved, not causing any trouble, just sleeping. You're so handsome. Good night."

Gillian was worried Tommy might feel unwell in the middle of the night, but he slept soundly through the night. He woke up to the alarm the next morning.

"Tommy, you're awake?" Gillian quickly asked, "Does your head still hurt?"

With a hangover, his head was indeed still a bit dizzy, and...

"How did I get home last night?" Tommy couldn't remember at all.

"You were so drunk you lost consciousness? Your subordinate Vernon brought you back," Gillian quickly replied. "I can't believe they made you drink. It's infuriating. Don't worry, Tommy, if this happens again, I'll go talk to your bosses."

"It's not their fault. It's my fault for having a low tolerance." Tommy answered. He really couldn't handle alcohol. Yesterday, since it was the bosses and everyone was drinking, he had a bit, not expecting to get drunk.

"How can it be your fault? It's their fault," Gillian quickly cooed. "Tommy, lie down for a bit. I'll ask Vivienne to make breakfast."

"Vivienne didn't go home last night?"

"No, you were so drunk last night. I was worried you might feel unwell, so I didn't let Vivienne leave," Gillian explained. "Lie down for a bit longer."

Watching Gillian run out, Tommy smiled slightly and then got out of bed.

"I told you to lie down for a bit longer. Why are you up?" Gillian asked when she saw Tommy come out.

"It's okay. My head feels much better now." As Tommy said this, he glanced at the phone on the table and was instantly shocked.

"This was in your clothes," Gillian spoke, handing him the phone. "It seemed to be sewn inside. Tommy, why did you hide this old phone in your clothes?"

"I used it when I was undercover and forgot to take it out." Tommy explained slowly, then put the phone in his pocket.

"I see. Such an old phone, no one uses it anymore. Alright, Tommy, let's have breakfast."

Tommy barely ate anything for breakfast.

"Gillian, I'm heading to work."

"You're leaving so early?"

"Yes, there's an early meeting today. I need to be there early."

"Alright, I'll wait for you tonight."

"Okay." Tommy responded and quickly left.

After getting in the car, he took out the phone. Looking at it, he swallowed hard. How did he get so drunk last night? He couldn't remember anything.

As he was thinking, the phone suddenly rang, startling him. He quickly looked around. Why was there a call at this time?

Seeing the long-lost caller ID made him nervous. After a long ring, he answered, "Hello."

"Tommy." A deep, elder voice came from the other end. "How could you be so careless?"
