Chapter 584 What Will Happen to Her If You Die?

Tommy was always like this, laying out every argument with clear evidence right in front of you.

Alaric was so mad he laughed, then asked, "Alright, tell me, why'd you go after the Storm family?"

"I wanted to start an illegal food business in Country A, but the Storm Group was dominating the market. If they didn't go under, we couldn't operate. It wasn't personal, just business," Tommy explained.

Not personal, just business?

Alaric pulled up the video of Brennan's fall and pointed to the shadowy figure, asking, "Who's this?"

Tommy answered, "That's me."

"That's bullshit!" Alaric shouted. "You were studying abroad after high school. The timeline you mentioned for your illegal activities in Country A overlaps with your time abroad. Do you have a twin or something?"

Alaric had already asked Harry to dig into Tommy's past, so he knew where Tommy was during that period.

"Running an illegal business in Country A didn't need me to be there all the time. I just had to make occasional trips. Besides," Tommy paused and looked at Alaric, continuing, "When I used disguise techniques to swap identities with Ambrose, Mr. Knight saw it. And Mrs. Knight had sated Ambrose for so long. He stood in front of Mrs. Knight pretending to be me, and she didn't recognize him. Occasionally changing my appearance to let someone impersonate me is quite simple, right?"

Just then, Vernon knocked and entered the room. When he looked at Tommy, he quickly averted his gaze, struggling to accept the drastic change in Tommy's identity. Although he hadn't worked with Tommy for long, he had admired him for his capabilities. The sudden and drastic change in Tommy's identity was something Vernon couldn't accept.

Vernon glanced at Tommy briefly, then leaned close to Neil and whispered, "Mr. Jackson, I checked Tommy's assets and found he has an account with a huge amount of money."

Although Vernon's voice was very soft, Alaric, sitting nearby, could still hear him.

Tommy had an account with a huge amount of money?

No wonder Gillian had that look when she came out of the bank. She must have discovered Tommy's account then. And because she found that account, she ended up that.

"Forget the Storm family. What about Gillian?" Alaric asked. "This wasn't just an accident. Who started the fire?"

"I did," Tommy said. "The stove could be set on a timer. I prepared it before work, knowing Gillian's routine. I timed it for when she would be asleep. As for the door being locked, maybe she accidentally locked it, or it just happened to malfunction."

"You started the fire? You set the fire and then risked your life to save her?"

"Because I regretted it," Tommy sighed deeply. "I didn't want to kill Gillian, but she found my account. I couldn't trust her. I hardened my heart to kill her, but in the end... You can understand, right? You don't want to kill someone, but you have to. When you see them about to die, you suddenly can't go through with it."

"Tommy!" Alaric was livid. "This is a police station, not a place for your nonsense!"

"I'm not talking nonsense. I'm seriously confessing my issues," Tommy said, enunciating each word. "Blame me for my moment of weakness, for regretting at the crucial moment. I left a flaw for you to find. Since you discovered it, I have nothing to say. I admit it."

"Do you know the consequences if these charges are proven?"

"Of course I know."

Of course, the consequence was death. How could he not know?

"You know? You know and you're still taking the fall for someone else?" Alaric was exasperated. "If you die, what about Gillian? She's still in the hospital, thinking you're just on a business trip, waiting for you to come back!"

Hearing this, Tommy's calm eyes flickered, and he gave a bitter, self-mocking smile. He looked at Alaric and asked, "If I don't die, what can she do? She's the commander's daughter, and I'm a criminal. Can we be together? There's no future for us."

"You knew there was no future, so why did you get involved with her in the first place? Now you've ruined her, and you think dying will solve everything? Is this your love for her?"

Hearing Alaric's question, Tommy's feigned indifference cracked. Yes, he was wrong. He had been wrong from the start.

"I owe Gillian an apology. All I can say now is I'm sorry," Tommy struggled for a moment, then pleaded, "If the truth is too cruel, tell her I died in an accident during a mission."

Alaric scoffed angrily, "Do you think she's a child?"

Tommy said, "Isn't she easy to deceive? Like her mother's death, she still believes her mother died of cancer, never suspecting anything else. If she weren't so simple-minded, she wouldn't have been fooled by me, wouldn't have thought it was just an accident after experiencing life and death. She's a fool!"

As soon as Tommy finished speaking, Alaric grabbed his collar and forced him to stand in anger.

"Tommy, you bastard! Do you think dying will atone for your sins? Your death will only hurt her more! If you truly want to atone, tell me who is behind this, who really hurt Gillian. Who is it?"

"No one," Tommy replied firmly, despite Alaric's fury.

Alaric was rather angry, ready to hit Tommy, but Neil quickly intervened, "Alaric, calm down. This is the police station."

Neil pulled Alaric away, and Tommy sat back in the interrogation chair, still expressionless, with no will to live.

"Alright, everyone calm down," Neil said. "We've been at this long enough today. We'll continue next time."

Neil ordered Tommy to be taken away. Alaric watched him go, feeling frustrated, like punching a pillow. They were so close to the truth, but Tommy took all the blame himself. Alaric had known Tommy long enough to understand him somewhat. If he was determined to die, changing his mind would be difficult.

"Neil, make sure he doesn't commit suicide."

Tommy probably thought death would be a relief. But if he died, he might find peace, but what about Gillian? And the person hiding behind him?
