Chapter 537: Of course, I believe you

"What did he talk to you about alone?" Alaric asked Stellan.

"Secret." Stellan had never mentioned this to him before, and naturally wouldn't tell Alaric now.

"Fine, don't tell me. I didn't want to know anyway."

Stellan smiled, then looked in the direction Tommy and Gillian had left, speaking, "You can tell, their relationship is really good now. Objectively speaking, Tommy is a really nice guy. He's competent, polite, calm, and quiet, which complements Gillian's personality perfectly."

Seeing Alaric's slightly jealous expression, Stellan quickly added, "Of course, he's not as good as you."

"Stop it, I don't need that kind of flattery like Gillian does," Alaric repiled, then picked Stellan up. "You've been sitting for a long time. Since you're not feeling nauseous, let's lie down and rest for a bit."

"Okay." Stellan nodded and yawned, "I've been so sleepy lately, always feeling tired."

"Then sleep." Alaric carried Stellan to the bedroom. She fell asleep shortly after lying down. Seeing her asleep, Alaric left the bedroom.

He walked to the balcony, gazing in the direction of the police station, deep in thought.

He always had a strong feeling that Tommy was not simple, but ever since it was proven that he was an undercover cop, everything seemed flawless. Was he just overthinking?

Hopefully, because seeing Gillian so madly in love with Tommy, he couldn't bear it.

As soon as Tommy and Gillian left The Knight Mansion and got into the car, Gillian hurriedly questioned, "How was it, Tommy? Did Alaric give you a hard time?"

"No," Tommy answered. "Gillian, don't think of Mr. Knight as so narrow-minded. How could he deliberately make things difficult for me? He actually cooperated with my questions, and it went smoother than I expected."

"That's good." Gillian finally felt relieved after hearing this. She had been very worried in the study, afraid that Tommy would be troubled.

Seeing Gillian so relieved, Tommy couldn't help but smile slightly. Just then, Tommy's phone rang; it was Officer Vernon calling.

"Really? There's news? That's great, it's been a tough time."

Gillian didn't know what Officer Vernon said, but seeing Tommy so happy, she guessed it was good news.

"Did they find the killer?"

"No, it's not about Hestia's case. It's another case."

"What case?" Gillian's curiosity was piqued. "Tell me about it."

"You'll know soon enough." Tommy said as he received a message from Officer Vernon with an address.

"Gillian, I have to go on a trip. I have a lot of cases, so I can only take half a day off. I need to leave tonight and be back by noon tomorrow. Wait for me at home."

"You're so tired, and you still have to travel in such a short time?"

Tommy smiled, pinched her cheek, and answered, "I'm not tired. It's for a good cause."

"Then I'll go with you."

"No, I'm not tired, but it would be too hard on you. Leaving tonight means we'll be on the road almost all night. Once we finish, we'll come right back."

"I want to go with you," Gillian replied firmly. "I have nothing to do at home anyway. I want to be with you. If I go with you, we can talk on the way, and it won't be so boring."

Hearing Gillian say this, Tommy felt very warm inside, "Gillian, thank you for supporting and understanding me."

"Of course, you're my future husband." Gillian then spoke dreamily, "I've thought about it. If you want to be a cop and don't want to change careers, then don't. You're so capable. I'm sure you'll get promoted quickly and eventually become the Police Chief!"

"You have that much confidence in me?"

"Of course!" Gillian encouraged Tommy. "So, Tommy, you have to work hard. Just like my dad, I used to worry about him, but after he became a general, I didn't anymore. Because once he reached that position, even if there was a real war, he would be the commander, not the one charging with a gun. So, when you become the Police Chief, you'll just need to manage and command, and I won't worry."

"Alright, for you, I'll work hard!"

"Good, I believe in you. It won't take many years." Although it was still a dream, Gillian was already imagining it. She had full confidence in Tommy.

Tommy smiled faintly, "Let's go out for dinner, and then I'll book the plane tickets."

"Okay."

After that, Tommy took Gillian out for dinner. Because it was a last-minute decision, there were no flights available tonight, so they had to book a train.

Once on the train, Tommy cooed, "It'll be a four to five-hour journey. Gillian, get some sleep."

"Okay." Gillian nodded, lying in Tommy's arms, and soon fell asleep.

Tommy looked down at the sleeping Gillian, his eyes trembling slightly, then he fell into deep thought.

After a while, he came back to his senses, looked at her again, then gently kissed her forehead and closed his eyes.

Another day passed, and Alaric hadn't received any calls from the police station. It seemed there was no progress on Hestia's case.

If Neil were in charge, he could call him to ask about the situation, but since Tommy was in charge now, he didn't want to make that call.

"Alaric."

"What?" Hearing Stellan call him, Alaric quickly went over and asked, "Feeling unwell again? Nauseous?"

"No, I feel fine now." Stellan just remembered something and voiced, "Officer Neil asked me for my dad's list of friends before he died. I gave him the list, but I haven't heard anything since."

Alaric didn't know about this, so he replied, "I'll call Neil and ask."

"Okay."

Alaric called Neil, who had just come out of his superior's office and had been severely reprimanded.

"Alaric, I was just about to call you," Neil said. "I've been getting a lot of criticism these past two days. I was given a month to solve the case, but I haven't cracked it, so I've been removed as the head of the task force. The case will now be investigated by others, and I'll just be assisting."
