Chapter 580 I Don't Want to See Anyone Right Now!
Three more days passed, and finally, Gillian's bandages came off. The sight of her burn wounds was heart-wrenching.
Her face wasn't as badly injured as her body, but there were still noticeable burn scars on her right cheek. Tommy hadn't dared to show her a mirror.
"Is my face completely ruined?" Gillian asked in a raspy voice. She could see the burns on her body, and the skin looked awful.
"No," Tommy quickly reassured her. "You're still beautiful. There's just a small scar on your right cheek. The doctor said with a skin graft, it'll look just like before. You won't be disfigured, I promise."
Gillian didn't respond, just cried silently, tears streaming down her face.
"Don't cry, Gillian. If you work with the doctors, you'll get better soon, okay?" Tommy kept encouraging her. "You've already been through so much. You're amazing, truly amazing. Everything will be okay, alright?"
It had been a week since the burns, and Gillian had no idea how she had made it through. It felt like an eternity. Tommy felt even worse.
Seeing her in such pain made him feel utterly helpless and tormented.
Because Gillian's bandages were off, her burn wounds kept oozing. With such a large area affected, Tommy had to constantly use sterile absorbent dressings to soak up the fluid.
Gillian could only lie there. Despite the doctors' best efforts to ease her pain, it was impossible to eliminate it completely.
Her entire body was in this state, with much of her skin damaged. It would scar and look terrifying.
"Did I hurt you?" Tommy asked, pausing as he tended to her wounds.
Gillian just shook her head, saying nothing, just crying. Tommy hurried to wipe her tears.
"I'm so sorry, Gillian," Tommy said, feeling he deserved the worst. It was his fault, all his fault that Gillian ended up like this. "It's all my fault. I'm so sorry."
"Tommy," Gillian looked at him with tear-filled eyes. "Am I going to be like this forever? Will I never recover?"
Tommy couldn't find the words to answer. The doctors had assured him they could save her face, which was the best possible outcome.
Her body couldn't be restored. She would need long-term medication and would suffer the aftereffects of the burns for the rest of her life.
"I'm so sorry, Gillian. I'm so sorry."
Tommy knew that apologies were worthless and couldn't change anything. But he had nothing else to say.
Just then, Alaric and Stellan quietly entered the room. Seeing them, Tommy quickly turned away to wipe his tears.
"Gillian, how are you feeling today?" Stellan asked, approaching the bed.
Gillian's burn wounds were exposed, as they couldn't be covered. Seeing them, Gillian became very agitated.
"I don't want to see anyone right now. Leave, all of you!"
She felt utterly miserable and didn't want anyone to see her in this state.
"Okay, don't get upset. We'll leave right away," Stellan said quickly.
Alaric led Stellan out. Gillian couldn't avoid the doctors and nurses, but she didn't want to see anyone else, especially people she knew, except for Tommy.
"Alright, Gillian, they're gone. It's just me here. I won't let anyone else in, okay? Don't get upset," Tommy tried to calm her.
It took a long time for Gillian to calm down. She then looked in the direction Stellan had left.
Stellan's belly was already quite large. Gillian hadn't been envious before, but now she was.
"Will I never be able to have children?"
Hearing this, Tommy couldn't help but break down in tears. This silly girl, she had almost died because of him, and she was still thinking about having children.
"Gillian, the most important thing now is for you to get better. Let's not think about anything else, okay?"
Get better? How could she get better?
Could she ever fully recover? No, she couldn't.
Leaving Gillian's room, Stellan felt deeply regretful. "I was careless. I just wanted to see her and didn't consider her feelings."
Alaric said nothing. They had indeed been careless.
"It looks like only Mr. Reaves can take care of her now," Stellan said. Gillian was rejecting everyone else, so only Tommy could stay with her.
"He's the reason for this accident. Of course, he has to take care of her!"
Alaric was seething with anger. If Tommy hadn't been so distraught, he would have punched him.
"Alaric, what did you just say?" Stellan was startled by his words.
"Nothing," Alaric replied. He didn't want to say more until the truth came out.
Just then, Josep approached, carrying a lunchbox.
"Josep," Stellan greeted him.
"I wasn't busy today, so I made some food for Gillian. Nutrition is very important during her recovery, so I made some high-protein dishes," Josep explained.
"Thank you so much," Alaric said. "But she's not in a good mood right now and doesn't want to see anyone. Could you give the food to me? I'll have a nurse bring it to her."
"No problem. I'll wait for Tommy to come out and give it to him. I won't go into the room," Josep insisted.
"Alright," Alaric agreed, taking his hand back and watching Josep head towards Gillian's room.
"Galatea, you should go back to the lounge. I'll join you soon."
Stellan replied, "Okay."
After Stellan left, Alaric watched Josep. As he said, Josep knocked on the door and waited for Tommy to come out. They talked for about five minutes before Tommy went back in, and Josep left.
Seeing this, Alaric pondered for a moment before heading to the lounge.
"Alaric, you haven't rested much these days. You should get some sleep," Stellan said when he entered.
Alaric hadn't had a good night's sleep in days; his greatest fear was receiving a call from Thomas. Thankfully, Thomas hadn't called.
"Alright, I'll take a nap. Call me if anything happens."
"Okay, get some rest."
Alaric quickly fell asleep. Stellan, now in the later stages of her pregnancy, also needed more rest. Unable to sleep, she paced the lounge.
Next month, she would face a critical moment. Once past that, she could peacefully await the baby's arrival.
After a while, there was a soft knock on the lounge door. Stellan opened it to find Tommy standing outside.
