Chapter 549: He Suddenly Became Excited
Because Thomas didn't really know Tommy that well, he could only be sure that Tommy was the undercover agent his friend had sent out. He couldn't guarantee anything else.
And hearing Thomas explain this, Alaric found it quite amusing. After all, what did it have to do with Alaric?
It was Gillian who was going to marry Tommy, and Thomas who was going to be his father-in-law. If they didn't have any doubts, what was the point of his concern?
"Mr. Emberlyn, you don't need to explain this to me. It's just that I had a bit of a falling out with Tommy before, but it really has nothing to do with me. Gillian approves of him, and you approve of him, that's enough. No need for anyone else's opinion."
"Alaric, why do I sense a bit of dissatisfaction in your tone?" Thomas asked. "Gillian did say some harsh things to you, and I've already given her a good scolding for it."
"Really, there's nothing, Mr. Emberlyn," Alaric replied, feeling a bit helpless but serious. "I'm being very serious. After all, you will have a lot of contact with him in the future. Your approval is enough. And if you really go out and ask around, he has a great reputation in the industry, high education, high IQ, good looks, and capability. He indeed has a bright future."
"Are you sure there's no emotion in what you're saying?" Thomas asked again to confirm.
"Really, there's none," Alaric felt like he was about to cry from frustration. "Tommy is really good. We just had a bit of a misunderstanding before, but now that it's cleared up, everything is fine."
Since Thomas had already confirmed Tommy's identity, and everyone was praising him and saying he was a perfect match for Gillian, Alaric knew he had to learn to step back. It wouldn't be appropriate to badmouth Tommy anymore.
"Alright, as long as you're not upset. Gillian may be naive, but I understand. I know you're looking out for her. She's simple-minded, and you're worried she'll be deceived. I get it. You've really put in a lot of effort during your time in Arizona."
"She's my friend, so it's only right to worry about her," Alaric replied. "Alright, Mr. Emberlyn, see you tonight?"
"Okay, sorry to trouble you again, Alaric. When you have time, bring your family over to my place. I'll treat you well." Thomas felt a bit embarrassed for troubling Alaric so much.
"It's what I should do."
"Alright, see you tonight."
After hanging up the phone, Alaric let out a long sigh and muttered to himself, "Alaric, just take care of your own family and don't meddle in other people's business, got it?"
He had completely convinced himself this time. Even if Tommy and Gillian registered their marriage right now, he would only offer his blessings and not say another word.
When Alaric went back and told Stellan, Stellan seemed a bit gloating. "Weren't you dead set on not going? What changed your mind?"
"Didn't you already agree with Josep? How could I let you lose face in front of Josep? It's just a meal; I can endure it!"
"Alright, you really are resilient."
"What does this have to do with resilience?" Alaric immediately corrected. "I'm doing it for you."
"Okay, for me," Stellan quickly spoke. "I'll go change clothes, and then we'll pick up Caspian, Harry, and Elisa."
Since Stellan was pregnant, she couldn't wear makeup or tight-fitting clothes. She just wore loose clothing and flat shoes, looking very casual.
After that, Alaric drove to the school to pick up the three kids.
Harry started complaining again, "I've noticed that your thoughts are completely opposite to ours. When we don't want to stay at school, you make us stay. This morning, we said we had to stay at school tonight, but now you're picking us up. I've figured it out. You adults find joy in our suffering."
"Harry, you nailed it," Alaric uttered, going along with it. "Seeing you unhappy makes me happy. I really enjoy hearing you complain."
Alaric couldn't help but laugh, then seriously instructed them, "We're picking you up because there's an important dinner tonight. Josep is here."
"Josep is here?" Harry and Elisa were particularly excited to hear this. "We haven't seen Josep in a long time. We miss him."
"Not just Josep, but also Gillian's father, who was my former boss."
"Mr. Emberlyn!" Caspian immediately got excited upon hearing this. "Is he the general, Dad?"
"Do you know him? Why are you suddenly so excited?" Caspian was usually proud and aloof, never this excited.
"I'm asking Dad. Don't interrupt us!" Caspian scolded Harry, then quickly asked Alaric again, "Is he, Dad?"
"Yes." Alaric was a bit surprised by Caspian's excitement. "Caspian, you've never met Mr. Emberlyn before. Why are you so excited?"
"Because he's a general! Of course, I'm excited!" Caspian was genuinely thrilled.
"Super impressive!" Caspian's eyes were shining. "A four-star general, super impressive. I can't believe I get to meet a real-life general!"
Alaric had watched Caspian grow up and had never seen him this excited. He also never knew Caspian was so knowledgeable about this.
Could it be genetic? He really didn't know Caspian liked the military so much.
"Dad, you should have told me earlier. I'm wearing my school uniform, which isn't appropriate. I need to go home and change into formal attire!" Caspian spoke.
Harry and Elisa exchanged glances, thinking Caspian had gone crazy.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly so excited?" Harry asked him.
"I'm talking to Dad about something important. You shut up!" Caspian insisted. "I need to change clothes. It's too disrespectful to meet Mr. Emberlyn like this."
"Such a hassle," Harry complained again. If Caspian changed clothes, he would have to change too. What a bother!
There was no choice but to accompany Caspian home to change clothes. He really did change into formal attire.
Because Caspian insisted on going home to change clothes, they were delayed a bit. By the time they arrived at the hotel, everyone else was already there.
"Sorry for the delay, traffic was bad." Alaric voiced, not wanting to admit they were late because of Caspian, so he made up an excuse.
