Chapter 611 Discharge from Hospital
He couldn't pinpoint when his life had lost its color. Even standing under the sun couldn't chase away the shadows in his heart.
And as the days went by, those shadows only grew larger, until they completely obscured any light ahead.
Especially from the day he put on his police uniform, the weight of the shackles on him grew heavier and heavier, almost breaking him. But then Gillian appeared and lit up his world.
Yeah, she was the brightest star in the night sky. Whenever he lost his sense of purpose, whenever he was lost in the darkness, that bright star would guide him forward.
Gillian held him tightly, and Tommy choked up, unable to say a word. He felt like his life was a mess, that he was someone unworthy of love.
Yet, despite being such a mess, someone was willing to wait for him to get out of prison.
"If you don't say anything, I'll take it as a yes," Gillian said with a smile, her eyes fixed on his tear-streaked face. "My Tommy even looks good when he's crying."
Tommy couldn't help but laugh through his tears. How could she be so infatuated at a time like this?
Gillian continued to hold Tommy while Neil and Vernon stood nearby, watching. Vernon couldn't help but remark, "Mr. Reaves is something. Even when he's about to go to prison, the commander's daughter is willing to wait for him."
Vernon then turned to Neil and asked, "In this situation, Mr. Jackson, who do you think should be crying, them or us?"
Neil remained silent, not wanting to engage. But the more he ignored Vernon, the more persistent Vernon became.
"No matter how long Tommy is in prison, he'll come out as the commander's son-in-law. Look at you, a detective for ten years, and still single."
"Get lost!" Neil kicked him. "Keep running your mouth, and I'll cut out your tongue!"
Vernon quickly covered his mouth, indicating he wouldn't say another word.
Tommy took a while to calm down. He felt he had let down so many people—Gillian, Josep, and especially Thomas.
Thomas had come forward to testify for him out of a sense of justice, and now he had hurt Thomas's daughter like this. Thomas must be furious.
"And Mr. Emberlyn now?"
Tommy didn't even dare to ask. Gillian didn't dare to tell him the truth either, knowing he would never agree if he knew.
"Don't worry, he's my dad. I'll convince him," Gillian said. "So you need to work hard to prove to my dad that I made the right choice."
Tommy remained silent.
Vernon walked over, reminding them that Tommy was still a prisoner and their time was up.
Seeing Vernon approach, Gillian hugged Tommy tighter, repeatedly urging, "Take care of yourself in there. I'll visit you as soon as I can."
He didn't want Gillian to wait for him, but he couldn't convince her otherwise. If she stayed in Arizona City to continue her studies, without Thomas around, he would be worried.
"Gillian, your burns haven't fully healed. Make sure you take your meds on time. And if you stay in Arizona City, don't live alone. Mr. Knight is a good guy and treats you like a sister. Let him help you out."
"I know. I won't hesitate to ask Alaric for help. You just take care of yourself and don't worry about me."
As Gillian finished speaking, Vernon signaled that it was time to take Tommy away. Tommy quickly said, "Gillian, go back now."
Gillian was reluctant, but no one was above the law. Even the most powerful couldn't change that, so she could only watch as Tommy was taken to the police car.
As Tommy was led to the car, he kept his eyes on her, filled with mixed emotions.
"Tommy, take care. Remember, I'm waiting for you!" Gillian shouted as the police car started.
Tommy couldn't say anything, just nodded. Knowing someone was willing to wait for him made him feel like he could face anything.
Tommy was taken away, awaiting the judgment of the law. Meanwhile, Stellan and Rowena had finally completed their postpartum care.
During their recovery, Alaric and Cormac had been by their side, and the environment at VitalityCare Medical Center was excellent. They had stayed at the hospital, and Gillian had been living there too.
Evelyn had also safely passed the critical period and was out of the incubator. Over forty days after her birth, Alaric finally held her in his arms.
Alaric carefully cradled Evelyn. First-time dad Cormac had become quite adept at holding a baby. The housekeeper was packing up their things, and they were finally ready to go home.
"Let me see, Evelyn," Cormac said, holding his son. He had been busy taking care of his wife and son and hadn't had a chance to see Evelyn.
Seeing Evelyn, Cormac frowned slightly. "Why is she so small? She looks much smaller than my son."
The two babies were born on the same day, but one was full-term, and the other was premature.
"Your son was eight pounds at birth and is now almost nine. My Evelyn isn't even five pounds yet, of course, she's much smaller," Alaric explained.
"Such a tiny baby, she's adorable," Cormac said, looking at Evelyn fondly. He then brought his son closer. "Ethan, look at your sister, born on the same day as you."
Cormac's son was named Ethan Nash, symbolizing positivity and cheerfulness.
As Ethan looked at Evelyn, and Evelyn looked back at him, both babies started to smile, bringing joy to Alaric and Cormac.
"They're smiling so happily," Alaric said, unable to contain his smile.
"Wow, the babies are so happy," Gillian said as she walked in, delighted to see the two little ones smiling.
Gillian played with the babies for a while, then asked, "Alaric, are Stellan and Rowena being discharged today? I've been here for so long, can I leave too?"
"Yes," Alaric replied. Gillian had been in the hospital long enough and could be discharged. He looked at her and asked, "Are you sure you want to stay in Arizona City to wait for Tommy?"
