Chapter 523: Tommy and Gillian
"Yes." Seeing Stellan's interest, Alaric began to tell the story, "Back then, Gillian was very young. Mr. Emberlyn wasn't a general yet. Gillian's mother, Mrs. Emberlyn, was kidnapped by the enemy. They demanded Mr. Emberlyn exchange military plans for her release. He refused, and they killed Mrs. Emberlyn."
"What!" Stellan was truly shocked upon hearing this.
"Yes, Gillian was very young at the time. Mr. Emberlyn felt extremely guilty and didn't dare to tell her the truth. To this day, she believes Mrs. Emberlyn died of illness. She also inherited a low pain threshold from her mother. Mrs. Emberlyn was the same, with nerves much more sensitive to pain than the average person.
I remember once she accidentally cut her hand and was in unbearable pain. Mr. Emberlyn was heartbroken. Because of this, he doted on her excessively, protecting her in every way possible. Everyone in the military knew this, so they were even more careful not to let her get hurt or do anything. Over time, she became unable to take care of herself."
After Alaric finished speaking, Stellan was lost in thought, her admiration for Thomas growing.
Sacrificing Mrs. Emberlyn for justice must have been incredibly painful for him, making him feel deeply guilty towards Gillian and trying very hard to make it up to her.
"I didn't know that. She also burned her hand and got cut by glass. That must have been very painful, right?" Stellan asked nervously.
Stellan felt very guilty at this point. With so many servants at home, she shouldn't have asked Gillian to pour water.
"When I saw her tonight, she seemed fine, but..."
But she was staying at Tommy's house, which made Alaric very uneasy.
"It's very late. Let's go to bed, Stellan."
Actually, hearing all this made Stellan restless, and she couldn't sleep. She quickly exhorted, "Then you should go to Tommy's house first thing in the morning. After all, Mr. Emberlyn entrusted her to us, and we have that responsibility. Besides, this whole thing is really my fault."
"I'll go over first thing tomorrow. Don't overthink it. It's not your fault. Good night, honey."
"Okay, good night."
That night, Alaric and Stellan definitely didn't sleep well, but Gillian slept quite soundly and woke up naturally.
After waking up, she grabbed her phone to check the time, only to find it wouldn't turn on. 'Was it damaged by the rain yesterday? What a lousy phone!'
Gillian quickly got out of bed. As soon as she stepped out of the bedroom, she smelled the strong aroma of food. She hadn't eaten since she ran out yesterday and was really hungry.
The smell made her mouth water.
"Awake?" Tommy had just finished making breakfast, then he brought the breakfast to the table. Seeing this, Gillian felt like she'd been there before.
Wasn't Alaric like this? Getting up early to make breakfast for Stellan.
Every time she saw Stellan, it felt unreal. Now that it was happening to her, it felt even more surreal.
"Did you make all this?" Seeing the exquisite breakfast, Gillian was really surprised.
"Yeah, I don't know if it suits your taste. You can try it first."
"You can cook?"
Tommy seemed to pause for a moment, then voiced with a smile, "I've been living alone all these years. If I couldn't cook, wouldn't I starve?"
"Why?" Gillian didn't quite understand. "Why would you starve if you couldn't cook? You could hire a chef, order takeout, or eat out. At the very least, your parents can cook, right? How could you starve?"
"I don't like takeout or eating out. It's not healthy for me."
Not healthy?
Right, he liked working out and reading. He had a very healthy lifestyle, so it made sense that he avoided takeout.
If his salary wasn't high, it was understandable that he couldn't afford a chef.
"What about your parents? Are they out of town?"
Tommy paused, then nodded, "Yes, they're out of town."
"I see. So, is it because you're a cop, and your job is busy and stressful, that you don't have time to make friends?" Gillian rambled.
"I do have time, but..." Tommy smiled awkwardly and explained, "I don't have many friends. Most people can't accept my lifestyle. It's a bit too disciplined. They probably find me boring."
"How could that be?" Gillian seemed interested. "I think your lifestyle is super cool. I'm the complete opposite. My life is too undisciplined. When I'm home, I always mess up my sleep schedule, stay up late, sleep during the day, and eat all kinds of junk food. I want to control it, but I can't."
"Everyone has a different lifestyle. As long as you're happy."
"Yes, I'm happy, but it does make me unhealthy. I wish I were half as disciplined as you." Gillian kept talking, "When I was in college, I even got a gym membership during the holidays. But after one day of working out, my muscles were so sore that I gave up."
"That's because the trainer wasn't professional. You have an unusual physical condition. You need to start with the right methods, or you'll easily get injured."
"You know about that too?"
"I even got certified as a fitness trainer."
"Really? You got certified as a fitness trainer?" Gillian was really impressed.
"It's easy to get certified." Tommy explained, "Because my life is boring. While others socialize, have fun, and go shopping, I use that time to study and get a lot of useless certificates."
"You're really amazing. I wish I were half as studious as you. Teach me." Gillian couldn't help but get excited. "Teach me fitness and studying!"
"Sure."
"It's a deal. No backing out!"
"Okay." Tommy nodded, then checked the time and oviced, "I have to go to work. Do you want to stay here, or should I take you to a hotel?"
Stay here? Or go to a hotel?
"I don't want to stay in a hotel." She really didn't want to stay in a hotel.
"But if you keep staying with me, Alaric will go crazy. How about this: you stay here for now, and I'll temporarily stay at the police station dorm."
"Are you sure about that?"
"It's fine. The police station is very close." Tommy added, "You can stay here. I have all the books you need. You can read them and mark what you don't understand, and I'll teach you."
"Okay." Gillian nodded.
After that, Tommy left. He drove out and met Alaric's car at the entrance of the community.
