Chapter 535: "Are you together every night?"
"Alaric, Stellan!" When Gillian and Tommy arrived at The Knight Mansion, Gillian called out with an unusual enthusiasm.
Although Gillian had greeted Stellan before, there was always a sense of reluctance. This time, however, there was warmth in her voice.
Seeing Tommy and Gillian together, Stellan was a bit puzzled. 'Were they already dating?'
"Mr. Knight, Mrs. Knight," Tommy greeted politely. "Sorry for the unannounced visit."
"Not at all, please sit." Stellan replied, displaying the demeanor of a gracious host.
Tommy and Gillian sat down, and a servant quickly brought water.
"We're not strangers, no need to be so formal," Gillian spoke, then glanced at Stellan's hand apologetically. "I'm really sorry, Stellan. It was my carelessness last time."
"It's nothing," Stellan comforted her, looking at her hand. "Just a minor burn, it'll heal in a few days."
"I'm still very sorry. Not only did I burn you, but I also ran away from home."
"Now you know to apologize?" Alaric interjected. "After running away from The Knight Mansion, haven't you been living it up?"
Gillian silently complained, 'Alaric was really harsh!'
"Tommy, why did you bring Gillian here today?" Alaric voiced.
"It's actually about work..."
"Yes," Gillian hurriedly interrupted, explaining, "He's here for work, and I was just bored at home, so I came along to visit you."
Did Alaric not see through her obvious intentions? Was Gillian really that cautious, afraid he would make things difficult for Tommy? Did he really have such a narrow mind?
"Since it's about work, let's get to the point," Tommy spoke. "Mrs. Knight, Mr. Knight should have told you that Hestia, whom you sued, is dead. She was murdered and her body was disposed of. Because the case is related to you, we need to ask you a few questions."
"Yes," Gillian quickly added, "Tommy mentioned that Stellan needs to be summoned to the police station for questioning, but considering Stellan's condition, Tommy decided to come here instead."
Every word Gillian said was in defense of Tommy, making it clear to everyone that she was deeply in love.
"Gillian, since Tommy is on official duty, this is a serious conversation between a police officer and a suspect. You can't interrupt. Go wait in the study on the second floor!"
Tommy had less to say than Gillian.
"But I..."
"Gillian," Tommy quickly voiced, "Mr. Knight is right. I'm on duty. Please go to the study and wait for me, okay?"
Gillian still looked worried, but Alaric said, "Don't worry, he'll leave the same way he came. I won't harm him!"
"Be good." Tommy urged.
"Alright, I'll go upstairs then." With no other choice, Gillian went upstairs, and Alaric felt a sense of relief.
"Let's continue," Tommy said, looking at Stellan. "Mrs. Knight, please don't take this personally. I'm just doing my job."
"I understand," Stellan answered slowly. "I know the law. In this situation, I should be summoned to the police station. You've considered my condition and come here instead, and I'm very grateful. I'll fully cooperate with your work. Ask whatever you need to know."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Mrs. Knight. Let's begin," Tommy asked, taking out a notebook and pen. "Mrs. Knight, please tell me where you've been from the first court session until now. Besides immediate family, who else can vouch for you?"
"I've been at home," Stellan replied. "After the first court session, my morning sickness was severe, and I wasn't feeling well, so I didn't go out. Besides Alaric, all the maids here can vouch for me, and there are surveillance cameras inside and outside the house. You can check them."
"Alright," Tommy added. "We'll check your call records, internet login records, and online chat messages for the past month or even longer. We need to rule out the possibility of you hiring someone to commit the crime. But don't worry, we'll keep your privacy safe during this process. Hope you understand."
"I understand."
Before her pregnancy, Stellan was always busy at the construction site. After getting pregnant, she felt unwell and rarely used electronic devices, let alone chat online.
After talking to Stellan, Tommy looked at Alaric, who understood.
"As her husband, I need to undergo the same investigation. I understand."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Knight."
The questioning went more smoothly than Tommy had expected. In fact, it could have ended there, but Tommy suddenly thought of something else.
"Mr. Knight, may I speak with Mrs. Knight alone?" Tommy asked.
This was their home, with bodyguards outside. Even if Tommy had any ill intentions, he couldn't act on them. Besides, Alaric wanted to take the opportunity to talk to Gillian alone.
"Alright," Alaric agreed, standing up and instructing Stellan, "Stellan, talk to Tommy. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay." Stellan nodded.
Alaric then went upstairs, finding Gillian bored and playing with a pen on the desk.
Seeing Alaric enter, Gillian jumped up as if liberated. "Finally done? Then I'll leave with Tommy!"
"Stay right there!"
Gillian was really frustrated but had to stop. Seeing his stern expression, she was particularly annoyed.
"What now? Isn't it over?"
"Gillian, where has Tommy been these past few days?" Alaric asked, suspecting both him and Stellan, and not trusting Tommy either.
"Tommy?" Gillian replied. "Besides work, he's been at home."
"How can you be sure he didn't go somewhere else after work and came straight home? How can you be sure he didn't go out in the middle of the night?" Alaric questioned.
"He cooks for me at fixed times every day. Since he doesn't allow me to order takeout, he must come straight home after work. As for the nights, we sleep together every night. How could I not know if he went out?"
Sleep together every night?
Realizing what she had just said, Gillian quickly covered her mouth, having accidentally let it slip.
