Chapter 641 Aurora, Where Are You Now?

After Aurora finished explaining everything to the cops, she left the station feeling pretty bummed out by what they told her.

The recording she had was just Kelly and Jade making fun of her hairstyle, which wasn't enough to count as a crime.

The next day, during the exam, Aurora was focused on her test when there was a knock on the door. She looked up to see two police officers.

The officers had a quick chat with the teacher, who then said, "Kelly, Jade, can you step outside for a moment?"

Hearing this, Kelly and Jade shot daggers at Aurora, who quickly lowered her head.

It was obvious that Aurora had called the cops. How dare she!

Kelly and Jade were taken away by the officers, and Aurora's heart was pounding with anxiety. She had no idea what would happen next.

Would the police just ask them a few questions, give them a warning, and let them go with a promise not to do it again? Probably, since they hadn't physically hurt her.

The exams continued, and with just one more day left, the school would hold an assembly before officially starting summer break. Kelly and Jade hadn't returned, so were they still at the police station?

Aurora tried not to think about it. She just had to get through one more day before summer break.

She checked her phone and saw a missed call from Ryder. She quickly called him back.

"Hey, Mr. Rivers? You called me? Are you feeling unwell again?" Aurora asked anxiously.

"I'm feeling better now. I wanted to thank you for last night and apologize. Your exams are almost over, right? After your exams, you should get checked at the hospital to see if I hurt you. If I did, I'll cover the medical expenses."

Aurora was surprised by Ryder's concern. "I'm fine. As long as you're okay, just take your medication on time. I have one more half-day of exams tomorrow, and then the school assembly in the afternoon. After that, it's summer break."

"Alright, focus on your exams."

"Okay, once summer break starts, I'll officially start working as your chef."

"Good."

Ryder hung up. The thought of her working as his chef was something he looked forward to.

After the explosion that nearly killed him, he had endured so much pain. Learning that his leg was useless and his face was disfigured was bad enough, but then his beloved girlfriend married his brother.

People said he went mad, and he did. The trauma triggered severe manic episodes.

Every episode was excruciating. He was completely out of control, but to others, it just seemed like he was being irrationally angry, spreading his pain to everyone around him.

Maybe because Aurora was a doctor, she understood that his mania was an illness. Her dedicated care made him grateful and dependent on her.

He felt that when she gave him an injection during an episode, it forced him to sleep, and he wasn't afraid of another episode. If Aurora spent the whole summer with him, maybe his mania could be cured.

Aurora put her phone away after the call. She admitted that her first impression of Ryder was terrible. But after getting to know him, she realized he wasn't so bad. Everything had two sides, and she had to stay positive. Things would get better.

On the last day before break, after the morning exams, Kelly and Jade still hadn't returned.

Missing a day and a half of exams meant they would fail those subjects, but they deserved it for bullying others.

After the exams, the school held an assembly, and there were many last-minute things to take care of before break.

Most students were from out of town and stayed in the dorms, so the assembly went late.

Finally, after the assembly, dorm students returned to their rooms, and day students went home. Aurora headed to her basement apartment.

She didn't know what had happened at the police station, but no officers had contacted her since Kelly and Jade were taken away. No matter the outcome, she was officially on break and felt great. At least she wouldn't have to see those two for two months.

Aurora put on her headphones and played some music on her phone.

As she walked, she enjoyed the beautiful night view of Silverlight City. She had been studying here for two years but rarely went out to enjoy the city.

The warm night breeze felt wonderful.

Aurora's basement apartment was in a remote area with poor facilities. Some streetlights were broken, so she was about to use her phone's flashlight when something like a sack was thrown over her head.

"Ah... what are you doing?!"

Her head was covered, and she felt two tall guys dragging her. One of them tightly covered her mouth, preventing her from screaming.

They dragged her into an alley and started beating her. They punched and kicked her hard.

Aurora instinctively curled up, protecting her head. The beating lasted three or four minutes, and then they ran off.

Even though they didn't speak, Aurora knew Kelly had sent them to retaliate.

"Kelly, we did what you asked," the three guys reported to Kelly after beating Aurora.

"Good. You didn't get caught, right?"

"Don't worry. There are no cameras around here, and we avoided hitting her head or vital areas. She'll be fine by the time school starts in two months."

"Kelly, do you think she'll call the police again?" Jade asked.

"She wouldn't dare! This beating is a warning for calling the police and getting us in trouble!" Kelly said. "Let's go to the train station and head home!"

"Yeah, let's go home! Summer break!" Jade cheered.

Aurora lay on the ground, her whole body aching, especially her abdomen. She couldn't move.

"Is anyone there? Anyone?"

Aurora couldn't even shout. The alley was deserted at night.

Just then, her phone rang nearby. The screen was shattered, but hearing the ring gave Aurora hope.

She painfully crawled over and answered the call.

"Aurora, didn't you say you were on break? Why haven't you come over? Where are you?" Ryder asked, having waited for her to come cook dinner.

"I... I'm..."

Aurora could barely speak, and then everything went black.

"Aurora!" Ryder's voice was filled with panic. "What's wrong? Why do you sound so weak? Hello? Aurora, can you hear me? Where are you? Aurora!"
