Chapter 548: The Truth is Always the Truth
After hearing Tommy's words, Alaric had to admit that his logic was completely reasonable.
If Hestia was indeed being manipulated, there were only two reasons to kill her. One was the fear of her confessing, which was clearly not the case because she had a strong position in court and showed no signs of recanting.
The second reason would be to frame Stellan, but if that were the case, as Tommy said, the case wouldn't have been solved so quickly, clearing Stellan's name.
So, in Tommy's logical thinking, the mastermind's actions were completely unreasonable.
Tommy indeed took this case very seriously, as if he was genuinely trying to clear Stellan's name, including what he did after proving his identity.
He was really trying to do his job diligently and uphold justice. But why?
"Mr. Knight," Tommy's words interrupted his thoughts, "If you still have doubts about this case, I will continue to investigate."
"No need." Just now, Alaric seemed to have figured something out. If he was right, then Tommy's continued investigation wouldn't yield any results. "Tommy, you said it yourself, the perpetrator confessed, and we've got all the evidence. Let's leave it at that."
After saying this, Alaric's eyes deepened as he looked at him and continued, "Actually, it doesn't matter whether the case is closed now or not. Just like the Storm family case, like Orion's case, weren't they closed back then? But in the end, the truth is the truth! If my guess is correct, and the person who manipulated Hestia is Tiger, then when Tiger is caught, won't the truth come out? Don't you agree, Tommy?"
"Yes." Tommy nodded.
"Now that we've finished discussing work, let's talk about personal matters," Alaric changed the subject. "I heard from Stellan that Josep will be coming to Arizona in the next few days."
"Yes," Tommy explained, "Mr. Emberlyn wants to meet my relatives. My parents have long since formed new families, and I haven't been in contact with them for years, so..."
"I understand," Alaric nodded, then spoke, "Hope your meeting goes well."
Alaric didn't want to say anything more, then voiced to Tommy and Neil, "Neil, Tommy, I'm off."
After watching Alaric leave, Neil, both hesitant and angry, uttered, "Who the hell is this 'Tiger'? He's hiding pretty deep. When we catch him, I'll make sure he suffers!"
Tommy remained silent.
"By the way, you got promoted," Neil spoke, patting Tommy on the shoulder. "Congratulations, keep up the good work, and you'll have a bright future."
Tommy just smiled faintly, "Thank you."
Alaric drove away from the police station, feeling quite complicated. As he was nearing home, his phone rang. It was Thomas calling.
"Mr. Emberlyn," Alaric pulled over to answer the call.
"Alaric, did Gillian come to see you yesterday? Did she say a lot of harsh things?"
Knowing that Gillian had stormed out to find Alaric yesterday, Thomas knew she must have said some very harsh things.
"She didn't say anything harsh. She was just in a bad mood, which is normal."
"I've spoiled Gillian since she was a child, so she's very willful. If she said anything harsh to you, I apologize on her behalf. Please don't take it to heart."
"Mr. Emberlyn, you don't need to worry. I've watched her grow up; how could I hold a grudge against her? You don't need to worry, really." Alaric answered.
"I know you're big-hearted and won't hold it against her," Thomas continued, "I heard that Tommy's uncle Josep is also Stellan's teacher? What a coincidence."
"Yes," Alaric explained, "Stellan is from the Institute of Medical Pioneers, and Josep is her superior and benefactor."
"That is quite a coincidence," Thomas commented. "Josep will be here this afternoon, and we're planning to have dinner together tonight. Alaric, why don't you bring Stellan, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa along?"
"Our whole family?" Alaric could have refused if Josep had only invited Stellan, but he didn't expect Thomas to say this as well. "You're discussing Tommy and Gillian's marriage; it wouldn't be appropriate for us to join, would it?"
"We're not strangers; so there's nothing weird about it. Usually, both sets of parents would be involved in such matters, but my wife passed away early, so it's just me. Tommy's situation is also special, with only Josep. It would feel a bit lacking, so since you and Stellan have this connection with us..."
"I understand," Alaric agreed. "I'll book the restaurant for tonight, and I'll send someone to pick you and Josep up at five."
Since this was Arizona, and Thomas and Josep were both from out of town, Alaric naturally had to take care of them.
"Alaric, it seems I'm troubling you again."
"Mr. Emberlyn, don't worry about it. It's what I should do. I didn't get to properly host you last time you were here, so this time I'll make up for it."
"You already hosted me well last time. I had to leave in a hurry because of some matters. I didn't expect to come back so soon, so it's a good opportunity to see your three kids."
"Alright," Alaric paused before continuing, "Mr. Emberlyn, have you agreed to this marriage?"
Usually, when both sets of parents meet, it means they have agreed.
"Personally, I really don't want her to start dating so early, let alone find a boyfriend out of town. But you know her temper. I haven't even strongly opposed it, and she's already threatening to commit suicide. If I really break them up, she will definitely go through with it."
Alaric certainly knew Gillian's temper. She was now so infatuated with Tommy that she was willing to get angry with him, let alone Thomas.
"Alaric, do you still have some doubts about Tommy?"
Because when Thomas first vouched for him, Alaric's reaction was particularly strong, completely disbelieving Tommy.
"I can't speak for other things, but I can vouch for him being an undercover cop." Thomas continued, "My friend described the undercover cop he sent out, and it matches Tommy. Because Gillian is now dating him, I even called his wife today to confirm again.
My friend was very cautious. Not only did he tell me, but he also left a top-secret file on his computer that can only be opened with his wife's retina. He also instructed his wife that if he ever died, she should open it.
That top-secret file contains Tommy's information, which can 100% confirm that the undercover cop is indeed Tommy, no doubt about it.
I can absolutely vouch for this. You might still doubt his motives for being an undercover cop, but I can't guarantee that."
