Chapter 624 I Heard Her Father Is a Murderer

After being called out by the professor, Aurora felt a wave of nerves wash over her, unsure of what was coming.

"Aurora, you've nailed your spot for grad school, and your exam scores have been stellar. Plus, you're super active in the student council. I think it's time for you to take another step forward. I'd like to recommend you for party membership. It'll open up a lot of doors for you."

Aurora's heart leapt with excitement. "Wow, thank you so much!"

"No need to thank me. Just get your application in by this weekend."

"Got it."

Aurora was over the moon. She rushed back to her apartment, eager to start on her application, feeling incredibly fortunate.

Despite her tough start in life, with her mom leaving early and her dad passing away in a car accident, she had met many kind people along the way, and she was deeply grateful for that.

Aurora submitted her application and breezed through the interview. Now, all she had to do was wait for the final decision.

"Aurora, we've picked a spot. First, we'll have hot pot, then we'll hit up karaoke," Mira said after class. "You've got double the good news with grad school and the party membership. Congrats!"

"The party membership isn't confirmed yet. I'm not a member yet, so who knows?"

"Aurora, you need more confidence. The professors are backing you. It's practically a done deal," Mira reassured her.

"Exactly, Aurora. We started college at the same time, and in just two years, you've outpaced us all. Before you even graduate, top hospitals will be fighting over you. Meanwhile, we'll be stuck hoping any hospital will take us."

"Yeah, I'm so jealous," others chimed in.

The more others envied Aurora, the more it irked Kelly. She muttered to herself, "It's just luck and having a rich backer. What's the big deal?"

After a day of classes, Aurora planned to treat Mira and the others to dinner. Just as they were about to leave, someone called out to her, "Aurora, the department head wants to see you."

"See? I told you. Go on," Mira said.

Aurora didn't expect things to move so quickly. She thought the process would be long and complicated. If it was this smooth, she was lucky.

"You wanted to see me?" Aurora asked the department head.

"Yes," the head replied. "Your party application was rejected. Just letting you know."

The head handed back her documents. Aurora was completely blindsided by the news.

"Rejected? Why?"

"Failed the political review."

"Failed the political review?"

The political review was about family background. What could be wrong with hers? Why was it rejected?

"Why did it fail? Is there a mistake?" Aurora kept asking, not understanding.

"The review failed because your parents have a criminal record."

"Criminal record? My parents?"

Her mother, who had left long ago? She didn't even know where she was now.

"What criminal record? My mom?" Aurora couldn't believe it. "Is there a mistake? How could this be?"

The head didn't want to say more, but seeing her disbelief, he continued.

"Not your mom, your dad. He has a criminal record."

"My dad?" Aurora was even more shocked. "That's impossible. My dad always followed the law. He got terminally ill and then died in a car accident. How could he have a record? Wasn't it just a regular car accident?"

"A regular car accident? That's not what the case file says," the head replied. "The review team found that your dad was suspected of intentional homicide."

"My dad, intentional homicide? How could that be? Which case file? This must be a mistake! It has to be!"

Aurora's mind was reeling. Her dad, suspected of intentional homicide? Who did he kill? Her uncle's sister?

How could this be? They were just ordinary people. How could they have any enmity with the Nash family?

"This isn't my opinion. It's in the case file. If you don't believe it, check the file or find another way to understand it. But your application was rejected."

Aurora walked out slowly, holding her documents. This was too shocking, something she couldn't accept.

Stay calm. She had to stay calm!

She tried to think and suddenly remembered something her uncle had asked her.

"Aurora, can you think carefully? Did your dad act strangely or say anything unusual in the days before his accident? This is very important to me."

Remembering Cormac's question, she felt a chill. Was there more to the story? Was her uncle's sister's death not so simple? Was her dad involved?

Aurora had to find out the truth. The case file was at the Arizona Police Department.

She had to understand, she had to!

So she took a few days off from school, not telling Cormac, and quietly returned to Arizona City.

As soon as she left, rumors spread at school.

"Did you hear? Aurora failed the political review."

"Why? Why did she fail?" Everyone was curious.

"I heard a secret. Her dad's a murderer!"

"A murderer?" Jade was intrigued. "Really? Tell us more. What did you hear?"

Aurora took a night flight back to Arizona City. She needed to see Denny. She had asked the police, and he was the only living person involved in the case.

Denny had been involved in Ambrose's crimes and was serving a long sentence.

"Who are you?" Denny asked when Aurora visited. "I don't know you. Why are you here?"

"Do you remember Matthew? I'm his daughter."

Matthew?

Of course, Denny remembered. Matthew was the perfect person Ambrose had found to take down Orion. How could he forget?
