Chapter 551: Daddy, I Want to Be a General!
The dinner finally ended, and throughout the event, the Knight family was almost invisible. After leaving the hotel, Alaric and Stellan first saw Josep off.
Watching Josep's car leave, Thomas spoke to Gillian, "I've come all this way, and I'm not in a hurry to go back. Didn't you want to pursue a PhD at Arizona University? I'll give you some advice over the next couple of days to see if it's feasible."
"You're not planning to leave?" Gillian asked.
"What? You want me to leave now?" Seeing Gillian's unhappy expression, Thomas questioned angrily.
"Of course not," Gillian immediately replied. "Dad, if you're staying in Arizona for a few days, I'll stay with you and get your advice."
"Why are you suddenly being so obedient?"Thomas was a bit confused.
"You've agreed to my relationship with Tommy. How can I not be obedient? I promise I'll be good from now on and never make you angry again." Gillian uttered happily.
"When did I say I agreed?"
"You were chatting so well with Josep just now. Isn't that agreement?" Gillian immediately tried to please him. "Dad, you're the best, the most open-minded, and you respect my opinions the most. You're the best dad in the world, no, in the entire universe..."
"Alright, stop trying to flatter me!" Thomas interrupted her. "Go back to the hotel. Before I leave Arizona, you'll stay with me at the hotel."
"Got it."
"It's getting late, Mr. Emberlyn. You should go rest." Alaric respectfully opened the car door for Thomas.
Thomas got into the car first. Before getting in, Gillian whispered to Tommy, "Tommy, wait for my call when you get back."
Tommy nodded with a smile and waved at her.
After Thomas and Gillian left, Tommy gratefully said to Alaric, "Thank you so much for today, Mr. Knight. I should have paid for tonight's event, but you covered it. I'll transfer the money to you."
"No need, it's just a meal."
"I insist. I should cover all the expenses tonight."
Seeing Tommy's insistence, Alaric didn't argue further but added, "After tonight, you and Gillian are officially a couple. She really likes you. If you let her down, you'd be heartless."
That was all Alaric could say.
"I understand. Thanks for the reminder, Mr. Knight," Tommy replied politely. "Goodbye, Mr. Knight, Mrs. Knight."
Tommy then drove away. Alaric put his arm around Stellan and voiced, "Let's go too. It's so late, and you usually sleep early."
"Okay." Stellan nodded.
They got into the car, and Harry and Elisa also got in. Only Caspian seemed to be still looking in the direction of Thomas's car.
"Caspian?" Seeing that Caspian hadn't gotten in, Alaric reminded him.
"Coming." Caspian snapped out of it and got into the car.
Not long after the car started, Harry and Elisa fell asleep. Caspian, however, seemed particularly alert, lost in his thoughts.
"Stellan, you should sleep too. I'll wake you when we get there." Alaric cooed.
"No need, I slept a lot at noon, so I'm not tired now," Stellan replied. "I didn't expect tonight to go so smoothly. Does this mean they agree to their relationship?"
"Probably," Alaric couldn't help but say. "Josep was amazing. He took control charge away, lowering his and Tommy's stance and kept praising Mr. Emberlyn."
"After all, he's the director of the Institute of Medical Pioneers. He has to be capable."
Alaric smiled and then asked, "I've always called him Josep, but I don't know his full name. It's quite rude."
"You don't know Josep's full name? Didn't I tell you before?" Stellan was surprised.
"No, you didn't, and I never asked. I've always just called him Josep."
"Then I must not have mentioned it. My memory isn't what it used to be. I really forgot," Stellan answered. "Josep's full name is Josep Watkins."
Stellan yawned and then uttered, "I said I wasn't tired, but now I am. Drive slowly, Alaric. I'm going to sleep."
"Okay, sleep well."
Stellan then fell asleep. Alaric looked in the rearview mirror and saw Caspian staring out the window, still deep in thought.
When they got home, Stellan, Harry, and Elisa groggily went back to their bedrooms to continue sleeping.
"Caspian, you should go to bed early too," Alaric said to Caspian. He was about to take a shower when Caspian asked, "Dad, can I talk to you?"
Seeing Caspian so serious, Alaric had to take it seriously and nodded, "Of course."
They went into the study and closed the door.
"Caspian, what do you want to talk about?" Alaric sat down and looked at Caspian.
"Dad, I..." Caspian hesitated for a moment, then mustered up the courage to ask, "Can I join the military?"
What?
Had he been talking to Thomas about this tonight?
"Caspian, why do you suddenly want to join the military?" Alaric was surprised.
"It's not sudden. I've had this idea for a long time but never said it. Meeting Mr. Emberlyn tonight made me really excited because that's a profession I truly admire and aspire to. Dad, I really want to go!" Caspian explained excitedly.
Alaric suddenly fell silent. When he was young, he wanted to join the military partly to escape his family, but Caspian wasn't like that. Caspian genuinely aspired to be a soldier.
"Caspian, this is no joke. It's very tough there."
"I'm not joking. I'm very serious!" Caspian spoke firmly. "You could do it when you were young, and so can I. I want to accomplish what you couldn't. I want to be a general! I can do it!"
After Caspian said this, Alaric fell silent. He knew Caspian wasn't joking.
"Caspian, to be honest, I don't want you to join the military because I've been through it, and I don't want you to experience that."
Alaric tried to persuade Caspian earnestly, "You know why I retired, right? Being in the military is really dangerous."
"I'm not afraid!" Caspian replied resolutely. "Everyone dies eventually. Dying with purpose is what matters. I'm not afraid of hardship or death. I just want to be a general!"
Caspian's tone softened, and he pleaded, "Dad, please let me go. I'm not joking. As your son, I won't disgrace you. I'll go to the front lines to protect our country, and Harry can stay here to take care of the Knight family. Is that okay?"
