Chapter 571: Neither of the Two Things is Negotiable
"Elisa, do you think buying a house is like buying groceries, with a 50% discount?" Harry complained.
"Actually, giving it away for free is also an option, right? Daddy is so rich," Elisa asked.
"Zoe, Did I hear that right? Someone as stingy as you asking for a free house? Have you been struck by lightning and swapped souls?" Harry was surprised.
"No choice, the property is still in Daddy's hands. I don't feel anything spending his money. If I inherited the property, I'd definitely hesitate to give away a house. It's a lot of money, I'd feel the pinch."
Hearing Elisa say this, Stellan couldn't help but laugh. After laughing, she said to Alaric, "Alaric, since Gillian wants to buy a house, you could ask around. If we can help, we should."
"Do I even need to ask? Even if I offered it for free, they wouldn't accept it." Alaric had already figured out Gillian's thoughts. Gillian was now fully focused on Tommy. If he really gave it away, it would hurt Tommy's pride.
"Let's just pretend we didn't see anything and not ask about it." Alaric spoke.
As they said, it was rare for Tommy to have time today, so he accompanied Gillian to check out houses.
And just as Alaric thought, Gillian deliberately avoided all the properties under Nexus Innovations Real Estate.
"How did it go? Did you find anything you like?" After a day of house hunting, Tommy asked Gillian.
"They're all okay, but nothing I particularly like," Gillian replied. "The key issue is that all these places are far from your workplace. It would be too tiring for you to commute."
"It's fine, I can wake up a few minutes earlier. As long as you like it." Tommy spoke.
"You waking up a few minutes earlier is fine, but leaving a few minutes earlier and coming back a few minutes later would affect me a lot. We'd see each other less every day, and over the years, that would add up to a lot of lost time together. No, we need to find a place near your work."
Gillian was really thinking about Tommy with all her heart, and Tommy knew it too.
"Then next time I have some free time, we'll go look again?" Tommy asked.
"Sure," Gillian nodded. "We'll look again next time. Let's go home first, and I'll do some research online."
"Okay, but don't let it interfere with your studies."
"I know."
Their daily life was very simple and very regular. During the time Gillian had been living with Tommy, she felt her lifestyle had become very healthy.
Because of the healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, she felt her physical fitness had improved a lot.
After dinner, Tommy helped her with some study problems, and by the time they went to bed, it was already past eleven.
But just a few minutes after falling asleep, Tommy's phone rang. It was the police station calling, saying there had been another murder and he needed to return to duty immediately.
"Didn't they say you wouldn't have to work nights? Why are they calling you at this hour?" Gillian was really upset. It was already past midnight, and they had just fallen asleep.
"This is a special situation. You go back to sleep, Gillian. I have to go." Tommy cooed.
Gillian immediately grabbed Tommy and asked, "Can't you not go? It's too exhausting. You'll be up all night again."
"It's fine. I'll catch up on sleep tomorrow after I handle this. You go back to sleep. I'm leaving." Tommy spoke as he quickly got dressed and left.
Gillian felt really sorry for Tommy. What a terrible job, not even letting him get a good night's sleep.
So the next morning, she called Thomas.
"Why are you calling so early?"
"Two things," Gillian replied seriously. "Didn't you say you could arrange something for Tommy's job? Can you talk to his superior and get him a desk job? It's too tiring for him to be out in the field all the time."
"What did you just say? You want me to get him a promotion?"
"Yes, even though you're retired, you still know people, right? Just make a call. Tommy's superior wouldn't refuse."
"Gillian, do you think this is a joke?" Thomas scolded. "There are strict requirements for this. Tommy just rejoined the force. Where do you want to promote him to? This is nonsense!"
"When you promoted Alaric, you didn't even hesitate. He was so young and already a colonel, even though there were older people with lower ranks. Why are there so many rules when it comes to your son-in-law?"
"Alaric was young but had the qualifications and achievements. Tommy hasn't been here long enough. If he wants to move up, he has to do it step by step. There's no discussion on this. What's your second thing?"
Gillian pouted angrily, "The second thing is the same as last time. We've decided to buy a house in Arizona. Dad, can you spot me some money?"
They had checked out some houses yesterday, and the prices were just crazy. Tommy's job was already so tiring, and she didn't want to add more pressure on him with the house purchase.
"This is also non-negotiable unless you come back."
"Dad, why can't you be reasonable? Just bend the rules a little. You are my real dad."
"Because I'm your dad, I want you to come back. If you want to stay in Arizona, there's no discussion." Thomas said, "There's a new benefit for retired officials. I'm going on an international trip. Don't call me. I won't be back for a while."
"An international trip? Where are you going?"
Thomas had already hung up the phone.
Gillian, who had been hung up on, complained to herself. Even her dad was unreliable.
She was short on money and needed to buy a house. What should she do if no one would help?
Gillian rested her chin on her hand, thinking hard, and suddenly she remembered something.
"Right, I remember my dad saying he opened an account for me when I was very young and put money into it every year."
Gillian remembered that Thomas had indeed saved money for her from childhood, all in that account. But she didn't know about the accoumt..
She didn't know which bank it was with either. What should she do? Sometimes, you just have to use whatever methods you can, even if they seem dumb.
She decided to take her driver's license to various banks to check all the accounts under her name. Yes, that's the plan!
Thinking of this, Gillian took her driver's license and was about to go out when she saw Tommy's wallet at the entrance. He had been called away suddenly last night and left in a hurry, so he didn't take his wallet.
Gillian looked at it and saw his driver's license inside, so she took it with her.
