Chapter 638 Aurora, Let's See How Ugly You Are

"I've got a few friends who aren't heading home for the break either. We thought we'd hang out, maybe even join some summer camps off-campus, so..."

Aurora had to fib. She couldn't possibly tell Cormac she needed to make money; he'd never go for that.

"Uncle Cormac, I'll come home during winter break, okay?" Aurora quickly added.

Cormac really missed her, but as Alaric had said, kids grow up and have their own social circles. It's good for her to hang out with friends.

"Alright then, have fun. I'll send you some money later."

"No need, Uncle Cormac. I have enough. Please don't send any more; I won't use it," Aurora insisted. "Really, I'm good."

Every time Cormac offered, Aurora would say the same thing.

"Okay, but if you ever need more, you gotta tell me. You're out there on your own, and we can't take care of you. The least we can do is make sure you have enough money. Don't skimp on your living expenses because of study pressure."

"Don't worry, Uncle Cormac, I won't," Aurora reassured him. "I know you're making money now, but you're also busy with work. Please take care of yourself. I want you to live a long, healthy life."

Cormac couldn't help but smile. "Alright, we'll both live long lives. Get back to studying; I won't keep you."

"Aurora's not coming back?" Ethan asked as soon as Cormac hung up.

"That's right."

"I haven't seen Aurora in six months. She's not coming back for the break? Doesn't she miss me? I'm so sad!"

"She'll be back for New Year's. Ethan, go have some fun yourself. I'll take you to see Evelyn tomorrow."

"Okay, I'm going right now!" Ethan forgot everything else at the mention of seeing Evelyn.

After Ethan left, Rowena asked, "Aurora's not coming back this summer?"

"No, she said she wants to hang out with some friends," Cormac replied. "But she seems in good spirits and confident about her exams."

"Why would you worry about Aurora's exams? She's always top of her class," Rowena said.

"True, hearing she's in a good mood puts me at ease," Cormac said. "When the break comes, we'll take Harry, Elisa, Evelyn, and Ethan out."

"Sounds good," Rowena agreed. "Next year, when Tommy and Gillian's son turns one, there'll be even more of us."

"Yeah."

Tommy and Gillian's son was just two months old, and their family was busy doting on the little one.

After the call, Aurora felt great. She focused on her studies, ready to tackle the exams.

During the three days of exams, Aurora felt confident. After the tests, some students returned to their dorms, some went to the library, and others stayed in the classroom to prepare for the next subject.
Aurora stayed in the classroom to study since her basement room wasn't exactly the best place for it. The classroom was still pretty packed, with students from other departments hanging around.

"Aurora, I can't figure this part out. Can you help me?" A boy sat next to her, holding his textbook.

Aurora glanced at the highlighted section and patiently explained it to him. After that, he asked about another part, and she continued to help.

"I get it now. Thanks, Aurora."

"No problem," Aurora replied calmly, returning to her book, ignoring the glances exchanged around her.

"Aurora, come out quick! Someone's looking for you outside!"

"Oh, coming," Aurora responded, standing up quickly, only to cry out in pain, taking deep breaths.

Her hair had been tied to the back of the chair in a tight knot, impossible to untangle.

"Ha ha."

The classroom erupted in laughter, with Kelly and Jade leading the charge.

The boy who had asked for her help was among those laughing. Aurora realized he had distracted her while others tied her hair.

Seeing their mockery, Aurora's eyes welled up. She had helped him out of kindness, so why were they doing this?

"Aurora, can't you untie your hair? Let me help," Kelly said, approaching with scissors. Aurora couldn't run this time.

With a snip, her hair was cut off. Jade grabbed her by the neck.

"Aurora, you think you're so smart, running to the principal to tattle."

"Aurora, do you think the principal can help you?" Kelly leaned in, her arms on the desk, face close to Aurora's. "Too bad the principal can't be with you 24/7, and he's out of town now."

Aurora struggled to break free, but Jade, being chubby and strong, held her down.

"Aurora, how old are you?" Kelly slapped her face lightly. "You're an adult, acting like a grade-schooler, tattling to the principal. What, are you going to call the cops?"

"Go ahead, call them. We didn't hit you, no marks on you. The cops can't help you. And you call yourself smart?"

"Bitch, you deserve this!" Jade slammed Aurora onto the desk.

"What are you doing? Get off, all of you!" Aurora screamed and struggled, but it was useless. No one in the crowd helped her.

"Aurora, you deserve this!" Kelly cut her hair, cursing. "You think you deserve the scholarship? A murderer's daughter, why do the principal and professors like you?"

After cutting her hair, Kelly sneered, "Aurora, you look so ugly now. Did you use your looks to get good grades? Don't cry."

Kelly wiped her tears. "Crying makes you uglier. Here, take a picture, let her see how ugly she is."

Kelly showed her the photo. "See, Aurora? Look how ugly you are. So ugly."
