Chapter 516: Directly Drive Him Away
Today's birthday party was a blast for Caspian, Harry, and Elisa. They had an absolute blast.
Seeing childrenso happy, Stellan naturally felt happy too. She unconsciously placed her hand on her belly and smiled contentedly, "Alaric, look how happy they are."
"Yeah, even though this birthday party didn't go exactly as I planned, as long as children are happy, that's all that matters."
Stellan looked at Alaric and asked, "Why aren't you happy? You seem preoccupied."
Preoccupied?
Yeah, as long as the baby in her belly hasn't been born safely, Alaric's anxiety won't end, not to mention the current cases.
"Stellan, did Tommy come to see you earlier?"
"Yes," Stellan quickly explained, "I forgot to tell you, he came to tell me that he's now in charge of Marigold's case. After we talked, I had a stomachache, and then I found out I was pregnant, so I just forgot to tell you."
"Are you going to sue Hestia?"
"Yes." Stellan spoke firmly.
"Alright, I'll handle it." Since Stellan was pregnant, Alaric didn't want her to worry, so he would take care of it.
"Okay." Stellan felt relieved with Alaric handling it.
The ball had already started, and couples were dancing gracefully. Alaric saw Neil sitting alone on the sofa and said to Stellan, "Stellan, you go rest for a while. I'll go talk to Neil."
"Alright."
Alaric escorted Stellan to the lounge and then went to find Neil, who was holding a glass of wine.
Seeing Alaric approaching, Neil teased, "I'm glad I came to this birthday party. It's quite an experience—so bustling, so many people, and the wine is great."
"Neil, as long as you're having fun." Alaric sat down next to him and asked, "Is my mom's case now handled by Tommy?"
"Yes, I haven't had a chance to tell you. I have this big case with the Storm family, and I couldn't handle the smaller ones. So when Tommy offered, I..."
"So he volunteered?" Alaric immediately interrupted.
"Yes."
Tommy volunteered to take on Marigold's case?
"But you don't need to worry. It doesn't matter who handles it; the goal is to find the truth. If you're not satisfied with the result, you can always file an objection or appeal."
That's easy to say, but as Tommy mentioned earlier, it felt like he should be grateful to Tommy, which was hard to accept!
"Just as I said, Tommy is full of surprises. He's quite skilled." As Alaric was still pondering, Neil commented, "I didn't expect him to be such a good dancer."
Following Neil's gaze, Alaric saw Tommy dancing with Gillian.
"That's Mr. Emberlyn's daughter, Gillian, right?" Neil looked at Gillian, "Not bad. They look quite compatible—similar age, both single. A good match."
Out of all the women here, Tommy chose Gillian as his dance partner. Tommy sure knew how to pick!
"Gillian," Alaric called out as he approached her.
"Alaric?" Seeing Alaric coming over, Tommy and Gillian stopped dancing.
"Gillian, I need to entertain guests here. Stellan is alone in the lounge, and I'm worried. Can you go check on her for me?" Alaric instructed.
Clearly complained, "You have so many subordinates here today. Why ask me?"
"Alaric asked you because he trusts you," Tommy explained. "You've been dancing for a while; it's a good time to take a break."
"Alright then." Gillian reluctantly walked away, still clearly unwilling.
"Tommy, you really are charming," Alaric uttered slowly. "I've watched Gillian grow up. She's always been spoiled and difficult to approach, let alone dance with."
"I'm honored." Tommy replied with a faint smile.
"I was just talking to Neil. He said he handed over all his cases except the Storm family one to you. You must be busy. Don't let my childs' birthday party interfere with your work."
Alaric's intention to send him away was clear, and Tommy couldn't miss it.
"Mr. Knight, you're always so considerate. I'll get back to work then. Please convey my birthday wishes to Caspian, Harry, and Elisa."
"I should be thanking you, Tommy. Take care." Alaric directly saw him off.
At this point, Neil also walked over. Tommy respectfully said to Neil, "Neil, enjoy yourself. I have to go."
Watching Tommy leave, Neil slowly turned to Alaric and couldn't help but say, "Alaric, you're really heartless, just sending him away like that."
"I'm not sending him away; I don't want to delay his work."
Neil was momentarily speechless.
"By the way, Neil, the video of Brennan's fall from the USB drive—I was in a hurry to give it to you and didn't make a copy. Can you copy it for me?"
All leads had dried up, and Neil had no direction to continue the investigation. Alaric didn't either. The only clue was the video of Brennan's fall, which showed someone else on the rooftop besides Todd.
Although the video was very blurry, it was the only clue.
"Sure, I'll copy it for you when I get back."
"No rush." Alaric replied.
Gillian returned from the lounge, looked around, and asked, "Where's Tommy?"
"He had to leave." Alaric replied.
"He left?" Gillian seemed quite upset. "We didn't even finish our dance. He left without saying a word. How boring."
Without a dance partner, Gillian lost interest and sat on the sofa with disappointment. Seeing this, Neil complained to Alaric, "You broke them up. They were dancing so well."
If Tommy really had intentions of pursuing Gillian, Alaric would be suspicious of his motives. After all, Gillian was Thomas's daughter. Even though Thomas had retired, he still had significant influence and authority in the military.
After the ball, there was a fireworks display. Everyone moved outside, and the vast entertainment center was illuminated by the dazzling fireworks in the starry sky.
The fireworks were spectacular, and under this atmosphere, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa were overjoyed, clapping and cheering.
Under the fireworks, Alaric held Stellan close, and Rowena lay half-reclined in Cormac's arms, showing a beautiful and romantic scene.
Standing so close to them, Gillian couldn't help but feel a pang of envy!
