Chapter 579 Mr. Knight, Thank You
Gillian was in excruciating pain. The doctor had no choice but to give her two more painkiller injections, but they wouldn't take effect immediately. It would take some time.
Even if it was just a few minutes, Gillian felt like every second was an eternity. The pain was unbearable, and she felt like she couldn't endure it any longer.
"It hurts," Gillian said, her voice strained. Speaking hurt, but the pain was so intense that she had to try to express it, even though it made the pain worse.
"I know, I know," Tommy said, his voice filled with anguish. He wished he could take her pain upon himself, but he couldn't. No one could.
All he could do was watch her suffer, feeling utterly helpless.
"Tommy... help me... let me die," Gillian pleaded. She couldn't stand the pain any longer, reaching out to him. But her hands were bandaged, and Tommy didn't dare touch her, so he could only watch her in agony.
"I can't take it... it hurts so much... so much," she cried.
Gillian truly couldn't bear the pain. It felt like she was being tortured. She couldn't think of anything else; the pain was overwhelming. She wished she could pass out, but she remained painfully conscious.
All she wanted now was to die.
"Gillian, I know it hurts. I know. Just hold on a little longer, okay?" Tommy tried to comfort her, though he couldn't even comfort himself.
"Ten minutes. The doctor said the painkillers will work in ten minutes. Just hold on. Ten minutes will pass quickly. I'm here. I'll talk to you. Listen to me..."
Tommy didn't know what he was saying, just kept talking to her. Gillian was in too much pain to respond, her body convulsing, tears streaming down her face.
Tommy wiped her tears and kept talking, "Gillian, just five more minutes. Five more minutes and the pain will ease. Think about your father. What would he do if you were gone? And me, I'm here. I'm always here.
The doctor said you're not in any life-threatening danger anymore. Just hold on, and you'll get better. Gillian, just a little longer."
The hospital room was under special surveillance, and everything was visible in the monitoring room. Alaric, watching the scene, took a deep breath, feeling the pain himself.
Thomas had only one daughter. He knew she was afraid of pain and had always protected her, never letting her get hurt. Now, she was suffering so much.
Alaric couldn't imagine her pain. Severe burns were unbearable for anyone, and Gillian's pain was even worse.
Seeing her in such pain was unbearable for him, let alone Thomas. He really didn't dare to tell Thomas right now, and fortunately, Thomas was abroad, so he could keep it a secret for now.
Alaric left the monitoring room, unable to watch any longer, feeling a heavy weight in his chest.
Stellan was talking to primary doctor about Gillian's condition. Gillian was stable, but because she was particularly sensitive to pain, they didn't want to keep giving her painkillers, fearing she wouldn't be able to endure it on her own.
When Stellan finished talking to the doctor, Alaric asked, "How's she doing?"
"The main issue now is managing her pain without causing more harm. We've got a preliminary plan. Don't worry," Stellan replied.
"Good," Alaric nodded. "You need to rest too. You're pregnant. Don't push yourself too hard."
"I'm fine," Stellan sighed. "How did this happen? Gillian's been through so much."
Alaric didn't say much more to Stellan, who thought it was just an unfortunate accident.
"By the way, where's Josep? Is he still at the hospital?" Alaric asked, realizing he had been so focused on Gillian that he had forgotten about Josep.
"He went home today. Mr. Reaves' house burned down, and he needs to take care of things there. Plus, the fire affected the neighbors, and there's compensation to deal with. It's quite a mess."
"Don't let Josep worry about it. I'll have Silas handle it," Alaric said.
"Okay," Stellan agreed.
"Alright, you go rest. I'll take care of the rest," Alaric said, guiding Stellan to the rest area. They were both staying at the hospital around the clock.
The painkillers had started to work, and Gillian's pain was gradually easing. But she had sweated a lot from the pain, and the doctor was tending to her bandages.
Though she no longer felt the pain, being wrapped up and unable to move was still uncomfortable. She couldn't speak, just lay there.
The doctor worked on her, while Tommy stood by, watching. At that moment, his heart was filled with an indescribable pain It was his fault Gillian was suffering. All his fault.
After the doctor finished, Gillian was exhausted and fell asleep, but tears still streamed down her face. Tommy kept wiping them away.
"Is she asleep?" Alaric asked as he entered the room.
Hearing Alaric come in, Tommy merely nodded; he was completely drained and had no strength left to speak.
"The doctors will do everything they can to ease her pain," Alaric said. "My mentor is abroad, and I haven't told him yet. I'll wait until Gillian is better. So, while she's in the hospital..."
"I'll take care of her," Tommy interrupted. "I'll take care of her the whole time she's here."
No matter how long Gillian needed to stay, he would be there for her.
"Alright."
Tommy was dedicated to caring for Gillian. Whatever else he might be, he wouldn't harm her.
As long as Tommy stayed, Alaric would eventually learn what he needed to know. The priority now was for Gillian to recover.
Given her love-centered mindset, she probably relied on Tommy the most right now.
"Take good care of her," Alaric said, refraining from saying anything unnecessary for now. He would talk to Tommy more once Gillian was better.
"Thank you," Tommy said as Alaric reached the door.
Alaric paused, and Tommy continued, "If it weren't for you, Gillian and I might not have made it."
Alaric said nothing, just walked out. The room was quiet again, with Gillian asleep and Tommy watching over her.
