Chapter 602 After the Great Battle
The moment Joe saw Tommy hit the ground after being shot, he sprinted over, his heart pounding with a mix of fear and desperation.
"Tommy!"
Joe had always been a hard-ass to everyone, except for Tommy. He often said Tommy was like a son to him, his only hope in this messed-up world.
Seeing Tommy take a bullet, Joe lost it. But before he could reach him, Neil tackled Joe to the ground, and Vernon quickly jumped in to help.
Joe wasn't your average guy, and luckily, his earlier brawl with Alaric had worn him out. Plus, seeing Tommy get shot had him all messed up emotionally, making it easier for Neil and Vernon to pin him down.
Of course, Joe wasn't about to go down without a fight. As Neil tackled him, Joe fought back like a wild animal, pulling out a knife and swinging it at the officers. Alaric moved in fast, grabbing Joe's wrist and disarming him. Neil twisted Joe's arm behind his back, and Vernon slapped the cuffs on him.
"You bastards! Worthless scum!" Joe yelled, seething with rage. "Ambushing me, huh? That's all you got? If you had any guts, you'd fight me head-on! You wouldn't have caught me if I hadn't let my guard down! You lowlifes! You turned my son against me! Tommy, why'd you have to be so stupid? Why?"
Joe's ranting continued as Neil and Vernon hauled him up. With his hands cuffed, he was no longer a threat.
"Get him outta here!"
Joe's shouting was getting on everyone's nerves, so Neil ordered his men to drag Joe away. Even as they took him off, his curses echoed in the distance.
With Joe captured, his remaining goons thought about making a last stand, but reinforcements had arrived. The whole mountain was surrounded, and helicopters hovered overhead, ready to pounce.
"Great timing for reinforcements," Vernon muttered sarcastically. "We've been fighting for our lives, and now they show up."
Neil immediately smacked him on the back of the head, scolding, "Keep running your mouth, and it'll get you killed one day. Instead of talking, help with the rescue!"
"Neil, I'm leaving this to you," Alaric said as a military helicopter landed. He needed to get down the mountain ASAP; they were cut off from the outside world, and he still didn't know if his wife and kid were safe.
"Go save your family. We got this."
As Alaric rushed off, Neil hurried to Tommy, ripping open his shirt to reveal a bulletproof vest underneath. Tommy being there wasn't a last-minute thing; it had been planned with Alaric, who insisted Tommy wear a vest.
The vest had excellent defensive capabilities, but Joe had used high-powered machine gun rounds. Neil saw that the vest had been pierced. Without it, Tommy would have been killed instantly. Even with the vest, its penetration left Tommy's condition uncertain.
"Quick, get the helicopter ready! We need to get the wounded to the hospital!" Neil ordered urgently.
The area was a bloody mess, with heavy casualties. Cleaning up would be a massive task, but Alaric couldn't worry about that now. As soon as he got a signal, he called the hospital.
"Delivering her baby?"
Hearing this from the hospital, Alaric's heart nearly stopped. The last time Stellan gave birth, it was a near-death experience. Alaric had sworn to take good care of her this time, ensuring a smooth delivery. But now...
This time was even worse. Stellan was in excruciating pain from premature labor and had to deliver the baby herself.
"But the real obstetrician is there now."
Hearing this, Alaric was desperate. Despite the helicopter's speed, he wished it could go faster.
Alaric finally reached the hospital. After landing on the rooftop, he sprinted down and rushed into the delivery room.
But Stellan was no longer on the delivery bed. The room was empty, except for Cormac, who was slumped on the floor outside.
"Where's my wife? Where's my wife?" Alaric frantically asked Cormac.
"Galatea... Galatea was taken to a room, and the baby to an incubator," Cormac replied weakly, still recovering.
Stellan was in a room, and the baby was in an incubator? Did that mean they were both safe?
Alaric couldn't yet think about the baby's condition. Hearing that Stellan was out of immediate danger, he finally relaxed.
As relief washed over him, Alaric felt his body weaken, trembling from the fear he'd just experienced. He collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath.
Cormac turned to Alaric, his anger flaring up again. He wanted to punch Alaric, but he was too exhausted. Instead, he kicked Alaric and shouted, "Alaric, you bastard! You went off to play hero without a word, leaving us in the dark! My child was just born, and I barely had ten minutes to celebrate before I had to fight a killer for your wife and kid! I almost got stabbed to death, damn it! Scared the hell out of me!"
Cormac unleashed every curse he knew, truly terrified.
While Stellan endured the pain alone, delivering her baby, Cormac was fighting for his life against a killer. He was barely holding on when reinforcements arrived, saving him from being stabbed to death.
After being rescued, doctors wanted to treat Cormac, but he was too exhausted to stand. He told them to leave him alone for a while, but even after half an hour, he hadn't recovered.
Who would have thought he'd end up fighting a killer in a life-or-death struggle in his lifetime?
