Chapter 615 The Children Three Years Later

"Why are you asking about my dad right after getting out?"

"Well, he's your dad. He's worked so hard to raise you all these years. You can't let him down. This whole mess is my fault. Mr. Emberlyn blames me, hates me, and doesn't agree with this marriage, and I get it."

Tommy understood Thomas. If he were in Thomas's shoes, he wouldn't want his daughter marrying someone who had hurt her either.

"I told him I'd wait for you. My dad was really mad and stormed out of Arizona City. But I didn't give in for three years. Even though he hasn't come around yet, I know he's secretly visited me many times. Every time I tried to talk to him, he'd leave quickly."

Now, Gillian had been accepted into the PhD program at Arizona University. She knew Thomas had even approached the university president to ask him to look after her.

Hearing this, Tommy felt even more guilty. It was because of him that their father-daughter relationship had become so strained.

"Gillian, I'll go with you tomorrow to see Mr. Emberlyn and apologize."

He had done something so wrong; he had to make amends. If Thomas needed to vent his anger, Tommy would take it, whether it was a beating or a scolding. He just hoped Thomas could forgive him.

"Alright. I've been wanting to go back, but I was afraid he wouldn't let me leave again. With you by my side, I have nothing to worry about."

"Okay. And I need to fly to Country M to apologize to Joseph, too."

"Sure, I'll go with you."

"Thanks, Gillian. I just got out, and I'm already dragging you around."

"Isn't that what I'm supposed to do? Besides, I'm on winter break now. Staying at Alaric's place and watching him and his wife be all lovey-dovey every day is unbearable."

Tommy chuckled at that.

"Alaric said we're having dinner at his place tonight. Cormac's family will be there too," Gillian said. "Before the fire, we talked about moving. My dad sent me the money, and it's been with me ever since. Knowing you were getting out soon, I bought a house in Arizona City. Let's go see our new home, get cleaned up, and then head to Alaric's for dinner."

"You already bought a house? With Mr. Emberlyn's money?" Tommy felt even more guilty.

"Yes, because I'm studying in Arizona City. And I have good news for you. My university president told me that after I graduate with my PhD, I can stay on as a professor."

"Really?" Tommy was genuinely happy for her.

"Yes, I never thought I could become a university professor."

"Gillian, you're amazing!"

"You're the amazing one, Tommy!" Gillian's eyes sparkled. "You got your PhD in engineering while in prison."

Tommy already had a PhD in finance and had earned another in engineering while incarcerated.

"I didn't have much else to do in there besides work."

"A double PhD! You're incredible. I nearly lost all my hair getting just one PhD. I wouldn't go for a second one even if it killed me."

"Then don't. You're already amazing." Tommy praised her.

Gillian then took Tommy to see their new home. Since tonight was a celebration for Tommy's release, the Knight family had been busy all afternoon.

Evelyn was now three years old, and Harry and Elisa were ten. Even though Caspian wasn't around, the house was lively.

Evelyn looked a lot like Elisa did at that age, but was a bit smaller. Her big, bright eyes made her look like a little doll.

Evelyn, acting all grown-up, finished a phone call and then stumbled into her nursery, gathering all her favorite toys and snacks.

Seeing this, Harry quickly warned, "Evelyn, why are you carrying so much stuff? Slow down, don't fall."

"Rook, I won't fall. I'm three years and two months old now. I'm not just three anymore," Evelyn replied as she ran downstairs.

"Wait, Evelyn, where are you taking all that? I'm right here!"

"Rook, these aren't for you. They're for Ethan. He's coming over soon." Evelyn was excited.

She and Ethan were born on the same day and had grown up together. Harry and Elisa were at school during the day, so Evelyn spent more time with Ethan, making them very close.

Seeing this, Elisa teased Harry, "Hey, your little sister, your very own sister, likes me more. Has Evelyn ever given you any of her good stuff? Her heart belongs to Ethan, not you, Rook!"

Harry felt a bit embarrassed but tried to save face, "I'm a ten-year-old man. Why would I care about a little kid like Ethan?"

"Sure, you say that, but you're upset inside!" Elisa teased him again and then went downstairs.

"Both my sisters are heartless. One belongs to Caspian, the other to Ethan. I should've asked for a brother. Big mistake!"

"Mr. Nash, Mrs. Nash!" Evelyn was thrilled to see Cormac's family arrive, especially Ethan. "Ethan!"

"Evelyn!"

Ethan had been chubby at birth but had slimmed down and grown taller over the past three years. Though they were the same age, Ethan was already half a head taller than Evelyn.

"Ethan, these are all for you." Evelyn generously handed over all her favorite things to Ethan.

"Thanks, Evelyn. Come here, I have a gift for you, too." Ethan took Evelyn's hand to show her the gift.

Whenever these two were together, they had endless things to talk about, and Evelyn's smile never faded.

"Cormac, don't just stand there. Come help!" Tonight was mainly to celebrate Tommy's release, and Alaric planned to cook for himself. He wasn't going to let Cormac off the hook.

"Coming, coming. Stop yelling." Cormac took off his coat and headed to the kitchen.

"Alaric, Alaric!"

Alaric and Cormac were busy in the kitchen when Stellan came running in excitedly, "I just got a call from Caspian. The military has given him special permission to come home for New Year's this year."

"Really?" Alaric was so happy he almost cried. Caspian had been in the military for nearly four years, and Alaric hadn't seen him in all that time.

"Did I hear that right? Caspian is coming home for New Year's?" Harry and Elisa rushed over.

"You heard right. It's true."

"Wow! That's awesome!" Elisa cheered. "We finally get to see Caspian!"

"Caspian?" Evelyn was confused. She had never met her older brother.

"Yeah, Evelyn, your big brother from the photos is coming home," Harry told her.

"Oh, that's great! My big brother is coming home! I have to tell Ethan. Ethan, my big brother, is coming home! My super cool big brother is coming home!"

Harry rolled his eyes and muttered, "I feel like Evelyn and I aren't that close. Her heart belongs to Ethan."

The adults laughed at Harry's comment.

"Mr. Knight, Stellan," Mia came over and said, "Mr. Reaves and Ms. Emberlyn are here."

Tommy was here?

Alaric quickly put down what he was doing and went out with Stellan to greet them.
