Chapter 625 They Are the Truly Loving Family of Three

After meeting Denny, Aurora stumbled out, his words ringing in her ears.

"I was the one who approached your dad. He was terminally ill and didn't have much time left. I convinced him to take Orion down with him in a car accident. We promised to support you through college, but we didn't expect Cormac to find out. To avoid exposure, we didn't keep our promise."

Aurora couldn't stop replaying those words. She never imagined that the car accident years ago wasn't just an accident. Why did her dad do it?

Was it just to make sure she had someone to support her education after he was gone? But it cost someone else's life. Even if she could go to college, how could she use the money earned that way with a clear conscience?

The truth was too much. She couldn't accept it. She had relied on Cormac for so long, and he had been so good to her. Yet, her father was responsible for the death of Cormac's sister.

If her father hadn't killed his sister, would Cormac have tried to take his own life back then? Was that how it was?

Aurora couldn't walk any further. She leaned against a wall and slowly sank to the ground, feeling utterly miserable.

After a while, she hailed a cab to Cormac's company, Pulse Entertainment Group.

Once she got out of the cab, she hid nearby, checking the time. It was almost the end of the workday.

When she saw Rowena's car pull up, Aurora quickly hid, afraid of being seen. Rowena got out with Ethan.

Soon after, Cormac emerged from the building. Ethan ran to him with outstretched arms, calling out, "Daddy," and Cormac bent down to pick him up.

With Ethan in one arm and his other arm around Rowena, Cormac got into the car.

Aurora quickly flagged down another cab, instructing the driver to follow them.

She watched as Cormac, Rowena, and Ethan went to a mall, buying lots of toys from a toy store. Even from a distance, she could see the smiles on their faces.

They looked so happy and loving together as a family.

Cormac had been so kind to her all these years out of his goodness. Despite her being the daughter of the man who killed his sister, he had still treated her well.

But did Cormac think of his sister and her father whenever he saw her?

As she pondered this, Cormac turned around, and Aurora quickly hid.

"What's wrong, Cormac?" Rowena asked, noticing him looking back.

"Rowena, do you feel like someone has been following us?"

"I don't think so," Rowena replied, having been too busy picking out toys for Ethan to notice anything.

"Maybe it's just my imagination. I felt like someone was following us," Cormac said, turning back. "It's nothing."

"Daddy, Mommy, I want that one too!" Ethan pointed to a particularly cute Barbie doll.

"Isn't that a girl's toy? Why do you want it?" Cormac asked, puzzled.

"It's not for me. It's for Evelyn," Ethan explained eagerly. "Evelyn loves these dolls. She'll be so happy if I give it to her."

Ethan always bought two of everything, one for himself and one for Evelyn. They were used to it by now.

Seeing the price, Cormac was taken aback. "Dolls cost this much now?"

It was a lingering effect of the tough times; Cormac wasn't as free with his money as he had been when he was a rich kid.

"Daddy, don't worry. Put it on my tab. When I grow up and marry Evelyn, I'll pay you back with interest. So you need to work hard and make money!"

Cormac was speechless at Ethan's words.

"You little spendthrift, so all my hard work is for Alaric in the end?"

"Daddy, you and Uncle Alaric are best friends. Don't be so petty," Ethan said seriously. "You only have me. What's yours is mine, what's mine is Evelyn's, and what's Evelyn's is Uncle Alaric's. So, by extension, what's yours is Uncle Alaric's."

Cormac couldn't help but laugh. "Ethan, you're something."

"So, Daddy, work hard. I'll work hard too. I'll pay you back when I grow up."

"I'll take your word for it," Cormac said, looking at the bags of toys. "Let's go. We're having dinner at Alaric's tonight."

"Yay!" Ethan cheered. "Can I stay over at Uncle Alaric's tonight?"

"Sure."

"Thanks, Daddy! You're the best!"

For these two kids born on the same day, Alaric and Cormac often felt like they were raising each other's future in-laws.

Cormac had already sensed something earlier, so Aurora didn't dare follow them any further. She watched from a distance as the happy family left.

She sighed, feeling that she didn't belong to this family and didn't deserve to.

Aurora took a red-eye flight back to Silverlight City, determined not to let Cormac know she had been in Arizona City.

She arrived back in Silverlight City in the early hours and only allowed herself to cry once she was back in her apartment. Sitting on her bed, she hugged herself and sobbed.

Having traveled all night and cried for so long, she was in poor spirits the next day. She kept her head down as she walked into her school, hearing whispers behind her.

"The murderer's daughter is back!" Jade's voice rang out loudly on the crowded campus.

The murderer's daughter?

Aurora had never imagined she would be associated with a murderer.

She wanted to deny it, to shout that it wasn't true, but she couldn't. It was true.

She quickened her pace, trying to get to her classroom. Just then, a bottle of red ink was poured all over her white shirt, making a glaring stain. She looked up to see Kelly standing there, the culprit.
